Mark Gonzalez leaving Sox beat?

Featured Replies

Matt Speigel mentioned that Paul Sullivan will be parting ways with the Trib and Gonzalez will be sliding into the Cubs beat.

I think that is what I heard, can anyone else confirm?

Why didn't they just replace the Cubs guy with the Gonzo's Sox replacement?

You would have to ask them, but probably because they want their senior person on the team more people are interested in.

Not that I'd rather cover the Cubs than the Sox, but

Trips to MIL, PIT, CIN, STL >>> trips to CLE, DET, KC, MIN

KC is really really underrated.

So is Minneapolis-St. Paul.

Detroit and Cleveland I won't argue, but I wouldn't exactly say that Pittsburgh and Cincinnati are ideal vacation destinations.

Too bad, Gonzalez is a good beat writer.

Pittsburgh is a really fun and cool city.

If I had to rate the 8 cities in terms of which ones I'd like to visit 3 times a year:

1) Milwaukee

2) Pittsburgh

3) Minneapolis

4) Cincinnati

5) Kansas City

6) Saint Louis

7) Detroit

8) Cleveland

So, yeah, based on travel alone I'd take the Cubs beat over the Sox beat by far. I'd miss the once a year trips to Toronto, Boston, and Dallas but I'd be picking up San Diego, Denver, and Atlanta.

Maybe they replace Gonzo with Jim Margulus from SSS . That would please many Sox fans.

Where is Paul Sullivan going?

Munchkinland. He's going to represent the Lollipop Guild.

Sounds like a promotion to me!

Sox are reportedly getting a novice who did back-up work on college beats and covered high school stuff.

Draw your own conclusions.

But I'd suggest looking elsewhere for coverage.

Why does the Susanna Collins ending come to mind when I opened the link.
