  1. If somehow ADA got a slight uptick in production, batted lower and got hidden in LF......then $4M is great value there
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 09:16 PM) No idea how legit this is from twitter, but she does say she has someone that knows Tanaka personally. She's stating Tanaka to the Yankees on Monday https://twitter.com/nflnbainsider Fewer followers than me, even
  3. My brother in law saw a lot of things working Westin St Louis. Fair amount of stuff players' wives are not privy to etc.
  4. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 03:03 PM) Is anyone else tired of the Soxtalk user acting like he's Jose Abreu shtick yet? schtick like that makes me feel like i just wanna scream, flick someone off and storm off the field
  5. He's going to have a 40/40 year. 40 HR and 40 RBI. Because of our lineup
  6. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 11:09 AM) Thought he was gone oh well. Haha, 'congrats, you've been traded away from here'
  7. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 09:19 AM) Frank Thomas was the reason I became a White Sox fan living in NY. i sometimes forget those 90s lean years for NYY must not have been the most appealing baseball fandom to join at that point
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 3, 2014 -> 09:39 AM) That's not true. It's not sad to see Tyler Flowers suck at baseball, he's just not good. It sucks to see Konerko struggle so much after seeing how good of a player he was for so long. Should not be surprising. Time is undefeated. Every MLB player will be bad eventually. In purely terms of --is the team better or not-- you should want the guy who has done it before(very recently against LHP...was still very good). If the Sox can make the bench logistics work... make some trades................ then this Konerko thing could be very good. And if the team just ends up being bad, well, we have a 2015 focus anyway........so not that much harm done. Put differently-- a Konerko bounceback year is one of probably 5-6 things that have to go really right....for us to hang with DET in 2014. Dunn plus a bounceback PK, making up one spot in the lineup in tandem... is basically a near all-star offensively. PK retiring would just mean yet ANOTHER thing would have to go right, to deliver that level of magnitude... which is piling on ..tons. 2012's success could basically be called the result of several career years and bounceback years.
  9. I personally do not mind once-great guys looking like a shell of their former selves at all. The game isn't entirely about what entertains me or doesn't. Konerko gave us so many great moments, I'm happy to see him get to go out in the exact manner he sees fit. If it means him having a sub.300 OBP all year then I will care about how it affects winning.........but then once we're past that point when (probably inevitably) 2014 wins arent a concern anymore... then I'll be fine with either him playing the whole year or doing a Kerry Wood midyear exit thing. Besides, our offense has been bad enough where Konerko as-is against lefties.........and a mild bounceback against righties.......would be already one of our better bats (sadly). And a mild bounceback against righties is not out of the question, especially with a new role that will limit wear and tear (if that's a concern/contributor...obviously in addition to the immovable: age)
  10. QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 10:12 AM) Weaknesses in our lineup: taking pitches, left-handed bats, walks Guys we are trying hardest to dump: Adam Dunn (3rd in the league in P/PA, 13th in BB%, LHH) and Alejandro De Aza (15th in P/PA, 7.4 BB% was second among Sox regulars, LHH). Also it appears Conor Gillaspie could be on the way out - was second on the team in BB% among regulars, though his P/PA was below our team average Great point. ADA has his flaws but he definitely wasnt the biggest problem for this team. If it werent for Viciedo's still existing promise, ADA would be the one staying here. And looking back through his minor league numbers, he has always been a guy who has performed in basically the same way...even with the injury that derailed his Marlins time. He stayed above-not-good even after that time. As far as on this team, I would have no problem with ADA returning and being lower in the lineup. Playing LF. That would be fine.
  11. Costanzo is so pointlessly footbally. His penalty happened at the moment the tide turned on this one. Do the histronics/toughguy stuff after you have some substance to the way you play. After.
  12. A few years ago, Gordon Beckham was the second base choice for Harold Reynolds on a 'future hall of famers' segment for mlb network. Maybe it was 3b (even more hilarious) Oh how times have changed, mountains crumbled, slayers themselves..slayed. i dont want to lose your high ceiling promise, ton-iii-iight.
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 02:43 PM) Come on Romo, do the Bears a favor and win this. You mean in terms of..we'd potentially host a Chi/Dal game in the playoffs?
  14. Tim Jennings wearing White Sox hat on the Fox(Chi-affiliate) pregame show
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 20, 2013 -> 05:13 PM) So was James Johnson. Yes James Johnson was a real Chicago Bull. Not that his game translated to NBA reality. Kind of a jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none...although take another layer off the jack-of-all-trades portion. So like, jack-of-nothing, master-of-nothing
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 20, 2013 -> 04:06 PM) Matt Davidson has got to be the most generic baseball name ever. That would be one of the first generated for a fake minor leaguer in a video game. The NBA equivalent of this name was James Johnson.
  17. His badness escalated quickly Chris Cotillo ‏@ChrisCotillo 4m Kevin Youkilis will sign with the Rakuten Golden Eagles in Japan, according to reports.
  18. We're aimed at the future with an eye towards being digestible, not-vomitous-bad in the present
  19. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 11:04 PM) I don't know if this was posted anywhere but, Bob Nightengale ‏@BNightengale 3h The #WhiteSox have improved more than anyone in #MLB the last 6 months with acquistions of 1B Abreu, RF Garcia, CF Eaton and 3B Davidson. High praise by one of the best baseball writers out there. Praise tempered by the fact that, well, it's easier to rise farther when you start at a lower point than most anyone else. That said - good moves.
  20. We have suffered long enough. All our prospects are prospects, dammit. If anyone really wants to only rank the Trayce Thompsons etc then please do so in quiet, lights off. In a back room.
  21. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 03:31 PM) That's just stupid. Unless Reed is packaged with three other pieces. Havent you heard? Hawk is back in a GM role
  22. Is it accurate that Davidson's name was mentioned here for months, basically?
  23. The trade's popularity comes from two angles: -the saber guy's love of selling high on closers -the traditionalist's sad angry feeling of having all this pitching and yet having the teams go nowhere, having wet noodles for bats It passes the eye test, the brain test, all tests.
