  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 7, 2014 -> 08:48 PM) Thankfully that piece of s*** pitched over terrible defense. We dont have to all assume the people we're arguing against are taking wildly extreme viewpoints. Has Danks been good enough since returning from the injury? No. Clearly not. Are we open to him either (1) changing in order to gain a new form of effectiveness (2) getting the velocity back? Absolutely.
  2. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 7, 2014 -> 08:47 PM) 2 runs could of been worse. could've
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 7, 2014 -> 08:39 PM) Danks has always been an off speed pitcher. Not sure how he relied on velocity. Non-fireballers arent hurt by velocity dips? Surely that cant be your meaning
  4. This is a perfect example of outcome-based evaluation vs thought process. Danks was bad before that home run; some here just chose not to see it. Bad as defined by -- he cant do the things he's strong at anymore.......as he relied on velocity. He has to totally change as a pitcher if he's going to get back to being really solid like he was several yrs ago. Cubs have an awful offense so the things being said about Danks aren't based off this, but rather larger samples.
  5. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ May 7, 2014 -> 04:29 PM) I'd rather see Semien work through his struggles in the majors, but I don't expect SS2K and the Beckham fan club to agree. They're pretty emotionally invested in him. By sending him down you actually get more future Semien, as his free agency would be delayed a year if he spends another 1.5 months in the minors. Meanwhile i want Beckham playing,and i am really no fan. I want him producing for a bit so we can ship the guy out, as that is basically something that needs to happen based on what he costs/what he gives. He's too costly to be glove-only 2b.
  6. Also semien struck out a ton in the minors. so, while 'starting 2b' or something is a possible end result for him, it is by no means out of the realm of possibility that we have a utility guy here that just happens to have some pop. As far as his clutchness, lets remember that bad hitters want runners on base. runners being on base make them more successful hitters. when these guys dont have runners on base.. then you tend to see their...unvarnished..suckage Whether a guy has been clutch in the end means nothing as far what he'll do in the future. Do you want Craig Counsell in the bottom of ninth of Game 7, because he has done it before? Or do you want Joe Mauer, who has never been there before? Obviously you want a talented guy over a guy who has-been-clutch. What Semien did is great, but it doesnt say anything about who he is. It is just some stuff-that-he-did. When he changes fully what kind of hitter he is, i am awaiting him w/ open arms. but he has not done that. he just got some hits here and there basically. runners on: .799 OPS No runners on: .440 OPS
  7. We can't argue that you aren't sad, but it is dangerously close to being a case where we can argue that you aren't sad this might be landmark work we're doing here
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 7, 2014 -> 03:51 PM) I think I posed some good questions there. Pls answer them. It's hard to grapple with a premise like the one you're putting forth. It's like in an area argumentation has no ability to reach
  9. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 7, 2014 -> 03:28 PM) Does anyone have an explanation for Nieto being Danks' personal catcher? I don't really care I'm just curious as to how it came to be... This was really interesting on the topic http://www.southsidesox.com/2014/4/21/5634...ranged-marriage
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 7, 2014 -> 01:50 PM) That is patently absurd. That might be the most insane thing I have ever seen posted on Soxtalk, ever. That post is Howard the Duck. It is the Plan 9 From Outer Space of posts.
  11. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 7, 2014 -> 03:05 PM) Danks' only saving grace is the man can play some stellar defense. He has to learn to hit and regularly. He had plenty of opportunities and just failed miserably. He should not bat in major league games. hahahahah White Sox Facebook ‏@WhiteSxFacebook 31s How can they expect Danks to raise his average when they send him down every time he gets a big hit? White Sox Facebook ‏@WhiteSxFacebook 10s DANKS...SEMIEN....ABRUE.....are all future stars....beckham....de anza....got hefty contracts however they could be packaged up for pitchers
  12. ehehehehehehe White Sox Facebook ‏@WhiteSxFacebook 1m [Re: Jordan Danks] Stupid--Danks has shown he belongs here.
  13. Have to think Eaton's return was going to mean Danks was out anyway, so why not now.
  14. Danks will be back at some point because of the glove, but oh my goodness is he bad with the bat. Sierra out of options so you take a look at him, and just figure Leury could be a CF in a pinch til Eaton is back. It wouldnt be the worst thing in the world to get Leury that experience as well as his future of super-sub seems pretty cemented Sierra is not considered a CF. very minimal use there over the years.
  15. South Side Sox ‏@SouthSideSox 40s Gillaspie's up, Jordan Danks down to Charlotte.
  16. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 7, 2014 -> 01:51 PM) Terry Boers should never be included on any discussion of high level sports discussion. The guy is a lapdog with no actual opinion of his own. That's from someone who listens everyday. There isn't high level discussion because there is 0 discourse on the show. He's slowing down from his heyday which is natural. Dude is at the end of his career. When he was younger he was the king fire stoker
  17. 'they didnt have japanese pitchers back then' 'well they did but the thing is they were in japan'
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ May 6, 2014 -> 01:31 PM) This "we should have traded Sale" is even more premature than me claiming it's year ending. Year ending isnt the start and end of my concern or the Sox concern. How a guy's body responds to problems over time and how things get tougher and tougher to manage are what I'm interested in. One thing leading to another, because one isnt a physical freak who can withstand the punishment of those mechanics...........or the opposite of that, which is that he is a physical freak and can do this for 10 yrs. Yes he's great. Yes you can get a lot for him in trade. Yes there are issues with him each year being taken off the mound for periods. So you take all those things and weigh them. and what also weighs in is where your org is at.
  19. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 6, 2014 -> 01:22 PM) Correct. I need to start qualifying my posts better. Trading Chris Sale for anything short of a player along the lines of Mike Trout or even a Manny Machado is laughably dumb. I apologize for making the assumption that those trades aren't out there. For an organization that needs a lot, a bonafide ace that has had arm issues each year and has mechanics concerns since forever...........there are absolutely more trades to look at than just that. It's not some failure on our part to just simply admit that there's complexity to it. Weigh how sturdy he is versus how soon you expect to be good enough to make his ace-ness matter big time. The contract we just got him under enhances the prospect haul, mind you.
  20. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 6, 2014 -> 01:10 PM) We can revisit how dumb it is still to trade him, yes. You can't say 'trading him is dumb' til you know exactly what trades are out there. The reason sale fell to us in the draft is the reason we got the bargain extension deal, and is the reason we're conflicted right now over what he is. His quality of pitching has not changed but either have the question marks. he's either a physical freak that withstands that delivery of his, or he isnt. and we wont know til his career is over, be it long or short. pretending to already know otherwise is just what you do to self-soothe. but the FO is not as lucky as us, who can do that. deciding the future of this team is what is at stake..and that is not an exaggeration. if you have already turned down an A+ haul of prospects for sale, that is a decision that steers the course of the franchise, for good or bad.
  21. Davidson has been in MLB and didnt falter, which is nice. What's going on now is a stretch of badness and the cause for alarm would be no turnaround. Not at that point yet.
  22. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 6, 2014 -> 09:23 AM) It happened last night. You just said so yourself. It was a line of questioning that didnt require a thread or..well...even a full question....to be answered
  23. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ May 5, 2014 -> 10:49 PM) K Zone had all 5 pitches to ADA as strikes. That's off
