  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 04:33 PM) Jeff Keppinger got a three year contract from the White Sox. He had other two year offers on the table. The numbers are really clear that Beckham got rushed, as are the results. Keppinger was a way better baseball player. You guys are delusional.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 04:11 PM) Frazor was a mediocre middle reliever with a one year contract at essentially full market value. Gordo still has one more arb year of control left before he can hit the free agent market. As for other part, the guy had 259 minor league plate appearances, 196 of which were at AA or AAA. If that isn't the cover definition of "rushed" I don't know what is. He got about 1/2 of a season's worth of ABs in the minors. Total. Nobody would give Beckham more than a 1 year contract right now. A good reliever is more valuable than a bad second baseman. He wasn't rushed. He had success before he was exposed. He's had 4 years to adjust. He isn't physically capable. He has major flaws that are apparently unchangeable ie approach, recognition and a very flawed swing.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 03:58 PM) Exactly. Let us not forget, even secondary return can amount to something. The guy everyone is clamoring as closer was a C+ piece in a deal for Jason Frazor. I'd be shocked if Beckham had as much value as Jason Frazor even if he puts up decent numbers, which he isn't capable of putting up. Semien's nothing like Beckham. Semien looks ready despite some early struggles. Beckham wasn't rushed. Let's stop pretending he was. He's just a bad hitter and there is little to no hope he figures it out 2500 AB's into a pretty awful career.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 03:16 PM) Except in a rebuilding situation, the idea is to put anyone who isn't in the teams plans into the best possible light to maximize their trade value. Gordo getting 200 ABs this year is literally flushing money and an asset away. How is Beckham even remotely close to an "asset?" He hasn't had any real value in years.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 12:39 PM) Great post. Beckham's power diminished because he completely rebuilt his stance. It's also the only way he can make consistent contact.
  6. Beckham wasn't rushed. He has a horrible looking swing and pitchers adjusted. He never had a good approach, but had the wrists and reflexes to hit mediocre pitching. He wasn't able to adapt. He's a bust. Even if he starts out on fire, he won't have any value. Teams aren't clamoring for busted prospects in arbitration. I wouldn't compare him to Semien. Semien has a much better approach and a lower maintenance swing.
  7. QUOTE (daggins @ Apr 12, 2014 -> 05:42 PM) Nope, team is definitely crap. You guys are buying into small sample size. This is a team with huge holes in the rotation, the lineup, the defense and the bullpen They are coming along nicely but don't be fooled by this offensive hot streak. Team is bad. This
  8. It's April 12th and this is a s***ty team. Who cares?
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 11, 2014 -> 01:46 AM) What is your problem? Our star RF is out for the season and one poster had an interesting post how Piersall said it pisses him off when outfielders dive for the ball. I said if this is true, it's disappointing the Sox didn't tell Garcia to quit with the freakish diving for balls. Good luck to Garcia, but this is a huge setback to his development. He's not a star.
  10. Definitely a bummer, but I'm not very excited about Garcia anyway tbh.
  11. Nice to see Avi really turn on some balls and get some lift. Semien is just a professional hitter.
  12. Man, Q has some good stuff. He might make hitters look worse than Sale.
  13. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 8, 2014 -> 09:06 PM) Marcus is fine, he's been having good ab's for the last 4 or 5 games. He's getting there. About as professional hitter as you'll find.
  14. "Best young core of talent." Hawk is such an embarrassing idiot.
  15. I will give the Marvel movies credit for not taking themselves too seriously. Although Anthony Hopkins should give his Silence of the Lambs Oscar back for his role in Thor. He was LOL bad.
  16. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Apr 8, 2014 -> 09:39 AM) You are. They're nowhere near as good as this thread would have you believe. Thor was solid and had some really good comic relief. Iron Man was very good because RDJ totally carried it with his charisma. Hulk was just okay. The Avengers was pure cheese. I didn't even finish Captain America. None of the Marvel movies are even in the same stratosphere as the Batman Trilogy or Hellboy IMO.
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 08:04 AM) What bothered you this episode? The depiction of the Thenns was a bit odd but I like that they brought their (rumored?) cannibalistic nature to the screen. I'll always prefer the books to the show in the this series, but I think GoT has done mostly a great job in the adaptation. They're just combining the free folk. The Thenns weren't cannibals.
  18. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 4, 2014 -> 06:16 PM) Tyler Flowers swinging a Freddy Sanchez magic bat right now. Has reached base 8 straight times, and has deserved about 3 of those. We'll take it. Are you the poster formally known as Shoota?
  19. The thing about replay in baseball is that it doesn't count for continuation of the play. Plays keep going.
  20. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 4, 2014 -> 11:16 AM) Considering we don't have an off day for a while, it'll be interesting to see when they mix in Nieto. I saw someone say he could be Danks personal catcher, any reason behind that? They both like to toke. They have a bond you just can't explain, man. Yeah.
  21. QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 10:12 PM) Don't know if it has been said, but the sample size that led to the conclusion that his defense was poor was woefully small. You need at least a full season of reps to even begin to get a valid sample size and you won't know the true value of the defender until you have multiple full seasons of data. That's crazy. You can tell a lot about an OF's potential based off his reads. His instincts are bad. He can develop into a good fielder because he's physically gifted, but will always be limited. As far as hitting, I'm more concerned with swing plane and his propensity to beat everything into the ground. Like everyone said, he's young, but it's still concerning.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 04:54 PM) Heartbreaking loss. Good news is in 2005, Shingo blew the 3rd game of the season in similar fashion. I wouldn't call it heartbreaking. 2 bad teams, playing bad baseball in s***ty weather.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 04:54 PM) TaylorStSox cares, and he cares alot. Lol. You like AJ that much? I'm not that mad. The Twins have been a punk ass team of punk ass players since Gardenhire took over.
  24. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 04:51 PM) He was looking at the 1st base side dugout, pretty clear. Get worked up though. He was on third looking over his right shoulder.
  25. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 04:48 PM) He was looking at his own dugout. Unless our dugout is on the 1st base side, he wasn't.
