  1. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 21, 2013 -> 09:17 AM) So sounds like the developer screwed everyone by claiming that it would be compatible with Dropbox when he clearly knew it wouldn't. Would figure this would pop up in the reviews pretty quickly and common sense would be to avoid this app. The developer planned on having Dropbox/Wi Drive integration until Apple nixed it themselves. That's why I brought up the VLC app. Apple was fine with it until they found out that users had the audacity to play videos other than mp4. Nonetheless, it's a fantastic app with tremendous value. You can still use Dropbox, but only to sync metadata between tablet and laptop. As far as DJs using laptops, we are entering an era where tablets simply aren't browsers and media machines. People will be able to use them for productivity as well. This is where Windows really gets it IMO by allowing a real OS to run on a tablet, hence the Surface and Yoga. Hybrids are the future.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 20, 2013 -> 08:40 PM) I don't see a whole lot of difference between cellular service and Cable or even Internet service. Only one of them has a dumb, standardized device at the end because we haven't been given any freedom of choice. Or else there is just no demand. We're not talking about service. We're talking about buying a piece of hardware, or software, and using it any way you'd like. For example, an iPad is physically capable of accomplishing tasks that Apple simply won't allow it to ie. storing and using your files where you see fit.
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 20, 2013 -> 03:10 PM) "advanced" users or users who want those features are a subset which is why they are so popular. Even other OS users dont always become users of the "advanced" features. The issue is about having the freedom to use the device in the way that you see fit. Based on Apple's marketing, I was under the assumption they were all about creativity and freedom. In reality, they force you into being a lemming. The integration is great, but at what cost? I really should have saved the money I spent on the iPhone and iPad and got a a dumb phone and Windows hybrid. I would have the functionality of a real OS and the ability to make calls. You live and learn.
  4. QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 20, 2013 -> 11:36 AM) It's hard to go back to iOS once you've been on Android for a long time. Jailbreaking does alleviate that a bit though. I don't think I can use a non-jailbroken iOS device full-time. It's just absurd and I can't believe people stand for it. You can't just drag a drop a file onto the drive? It has to be synced to iTunes and be app specific? wtf? Just a little background... I discovered this the hard way. I know, my fault. A new app came on the market for dj'ing. It's called Traktor DJ. This app is advertised as being sync'd to Dropbox. To play a song on a club system, it will sound awful if its not at least a 320k mp3. So, people take gigs and gigs of files. So, everyone buys the app and finds out you can't load from Dropbox or a Wi Drive. The file has to be on the drive itself. You also can't transfer the file onto the iPad via Dropbox or Wi Drive because the app doesn't register from either. People go to the developer for an explanation. The developer says this comes straight from Apple. They wouldn't allow the developer to write the software so that its compatible. Dropbox can only be used to sync Metadata. They did this to force consumers to buy iPads with more storage. Apple also removed The VLC app from the marketplace so that users are forced to use mp4 and not AVI. I just find it ridiculous that they force people to go about tasks their way. Something like this would never happen in the Android/Windows world. /rant
  5. My HTC One X got water damage and is fried. I got a deal on an iPhone 4 that was too good to pass up. I know it's a couple years old, but wow, what a POS. It's slow, small and the touchscreen is slow to respond. The keyboard is slow. iOS is just ridiculous. You control my files for me? You choose the app that I can use them in? I have no freedom to choose? I have to jailbreak it to actually have control over my own data? Thanks, iOS.
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 11, 2013 -> 03:28 PM) This makes me want to make an all-sox team of my lifetime. All-time sox lists are fun, but it's annoying putting players you've never watched on there. I'm pretty damn certain Alexei is the best SS of my sox lifetime, which I consider 93 - today. Agreed. He's awfully undervalued. Lets not discuss why though. I kid, I kid.
  7. Honestly, I didn't read the whole thread. I'm just going to say that we as Sox fans have been spoiled by SS's over the last decade. Ramirez is absolutely fantastic defensively. He's so good that he makes Beckham look good. He has so much range up the middle and such a strong arm that it allows Beckham to cheat and make up for his lack of range. Ramirez really does make the tough play look routine. The only thing that frustrates me is that he's scared of contact so much that it hurts our pitcher's ability to hold runners. Anything he gives us with the bat is a bonus. He also happens to be a solid hitter, that hits better in RBI situations. He's the least of our problems.
  8. I didn't realize Headley was already 28. You'd have to be a damn fool to even entertain an offer for Sale.
  9. QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 03:40 PM) It also depends on your internet connection. The problem with torrents is that you depend on other people to seed it. You don't have those issues with file sharing sites. Finding seeders isn't really an issue unless your into some seriously weird s***. I pretty much only get movies though. I buy the majority of my music. I listen to some obscure stuff, so the artist actually see the money I spend.
  10. QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 02:36 PM) Torrenting is slow as hell. If you really want to download something without consequences, go get yourself a RapidGator account. I guess it depends in your definition of fast. I had the new episode of Walking Dead 10 minutes after it aired. I average 1.5mb's a second for most movies. It literally takes minutes to download a 2gb file. Piracy is like steroids, the authorities are always a step behind. Plus, I'm on a shared wifi connection all the time. Good luck with that.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 2, 2013 -> 10:23 AM) Here's the thing...I took a second to actually put those numbers together. If he hits ~.210 with 20 HR's, I gave him about 25 2b (usually his 2b are close to his HR numbers) and ~55 BB in 550 PA's (could be a little low for him), those bad numbers still put him with a .674 OPS. That's not great and yes it's a downgrade from AJ last year, but it's not terrifically bad either. 1/2 the teams in the league got a sub-.700 OPS from their catcher's spot. 8 teams got worse production last year than we'd hope would be worse case scenario for Flowers. I hate to use "butthurt," but we know what this whining is really all about. I hope some of these guys have MLBTV so they can catch a bunch of Rangers games.
  12. You're not going to hear the difference between Flac's and 320 MP3's. I still only buy Flac's only because music isn't mastered for MP3's. I wouldn't go all the way down to 165 VBR though. Remember, you won't be able to get that back. Storage is cheap. Covert to 320k.
  13. This thread is so full of lawlz. Thank you, Soxtalk. Flowers will be fine. Everyone's focused on offense in this thread. I'd like to add that AJ was absolutely embarrassing behind the plate last year. He threw more guys out, but struggled at every other part of being a catcher. I certainly don't want him behind the plate. After a couple months, the Rangers won't either.
  14. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Feb 27, 2013 -> 11:31 AM) Firefox is already 64 bit. I don't get it.
  15. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 27, 2013 -> 08:56 AM) Wait. People still use Firefox? Yeah. They even use Chrome, IE, and Opera. It's madness, I'll tell ya.
  16. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Feb 26, 2013 -> 11:27 PM) WTF is Waterfox? I'm intrigued. 64 bit version of Firefox.
  17. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Feb 22, 2013 -> 02:41 AM) You can do it with Mac's too. These DJ nerds that I talk to all do it. It's one of the reasons they still run all Apple's. I've found that people are looking for reasons to keep running OSX. It just isn't good enough anymore. It's kind of crazy. Everyone is running windows computers now. It's like it was, but in reverse. I have no idea what I was trying to say with this very drunken post. Anyway, any Firefox users switched to Waterfox? I did today. I like it. All customizations from Firefox translate nicely and it seems much faster. It's also not quite the resource hog.
  18. QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 22, 2013 -> 01:32 AM) I think that only applies to Lenovo laptops. A lot of slim laptops don't even have optical drives anymore. It adds too much bulk. You can do it with Mac's too. These DJ nerds that I talk to all do it. It's one of the reasons they still run all Apple's. I've found that people are looking for reasons to keep running OSX. It just isn't good enough anymore. It's kind of crazy. Everyone is running windows computers now. It's like it was, but in reverse.
  19. QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 22, 2013 -> 12:14 AM) That's the case with a lot of slim laptops these days. The more you know. I also learned that you can take your DVD drive out and replace it with an SSD to run dual HD's. That's pretty sweet. Who actually uses a DVD drive anymore? I haven't for years.
  20. Also, I just read that MBP's with retina display and Air's don't have expandable RAM? Obviously they're not underpowered. Nothing really needs 16 GB's of RAM, but wtf? You should be able to do whatever the hell you want with your $1,300 computer, right? Sorry for the rant. I'm troubleshooting issues with my PC and came across that.
  21. QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 21, 2013 -> 01:51 PM) Yeah, I tend to agree that having a touchscreen on a laptop that can't transform into a tablet isn't all that practical. I mean, it is obviously better to have the touchscreen as opposed to not having one, but if a laptop doesn't have a touchscreen, it's not a deal-breaker. This is why I think the Windows 8 convertible laptops have potential. You can use it as a laptop and a tablet when you want it. The biggest problem I have with the iPad or any other tablet is that it can't match a PC in terms of multitasking. Having a tablet and laptop in one solves that issue. And also I think Apple wants to sell iPads and MacBooks. If they integrate those together, they lose sales. This is where Microsoft really had some foresight with the Surface. Why run a tablet OS when you can run a full version of Windows? Why does a tablet have to be an underpowered, giant phone that doesn't make calls and runs a phone's OS? A tablet should be a mini-computer with outs that make it a real computer (usb, hdmi, expandable storage). In the last couple weeks, I've changed my thought process from a giant phone/tablet to a tablet/mini computer. The surface has the hardware to be the only machine you need. You use it on the run and go home, plug it into a monitor and it's a desktop. You can wifi to your TV, and it's a laptop. Is it possible to partition a Surface to run Android too? Think about it.
  22. Has anybody ever really proved a correlation between body type and pitch selection to injury? I really think most of it's BS. Some guys have rubber arms and some don't. Even mechanics are overrated. No matter how, or what, you throw, it's an unnatural motion. Some humans have the ability to withstand physical stress, others don't. It's really a crapshoot. I'd have a hard time giving up a pitcher like Sale. He's young, smart and straight up nasty.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 20, 2013 -> 12:19 PM) Is it possible that the "Windows Security essentials" popup is a spoof showing up from some program that is running in the background? I've seen things that will fake alerts like that before. Windows Security Essentials is a pretty common virus/malware.
  24. QUOTE (Tex @ Feb 19, 2013 -> 08:11 PM) So if you are sitting at a light waiting for it to change so you can turn right you should continuously be checking the bike lane? The cyclist passed a car with their blinker on getting ready to turn right. It seems crazy that a bike can pass a car like that and claim the right of way. That's obviously the biker's fault. The biker should have either stopped or moved to left of the car to pass. It would be the same for a car. You can't pass on the right side of a car turning right. Common sense.
  25. This isn't a bad one to get rid of. Just Google the steps. I don't remember what they are off hand. Use your smart phone browser while you're in Safe Mode with no networking. Norton really sucks. Use Avast. It's free and stable. You're going to have to delete this one yourself though.
