This has to be a tough call for a rookie. Do you go out there and risk injury and a possible big payoff to go out there and plunk someone? If I'm Tracey I say the hell with starting a brawl. I want to stay healthy and possibly get a big paycheck someday. You got to look out for you first, team second because in the long run nobody remembers Tracey if he suffers an arm injury in a brawl and no longer pitches effectively. Let the guy that has made a few million relieving come in and plunk him. This looks like just sacrificing a rook which to me is completely bush. Based on my interaction with Tracey at Birmingham last year the guy is a total class act.

Here is a short article on the Barons from the Birmingham News. They didn't print the entire roster like they did in the paper. http://www.al.com/sports/birminghamnews/in...6940.xml&coll=2 Along with the guys they mentioned in the article, Rob Sasser will be back, Corwin Malone will return to being a starter. Wally Rosa is returning at C. Ehren Wasserman RP, Dwayne Pollock RP, Brian West. Others listed include Micah Shurenstin (SP?) I'm curious where Michael Spidale will end up. I don't recall who they had listed in the outfield. -
Saw Fields today in Tucson. He looked very good at the plate. He worked the count in his favor and promptly crushed a double to center field. He laid off the junk off the plate and in the dirt. He looks much bigger now too... maybe his uniform was baggy in Birmingham. I must say he does look more comfortable out there albeit it was only one at bat...

Best of Luck Bull! My favorite Bull moments at the Met were when they played "California" when you warmed up... and when you got Fielder in the helmet in that game vs. Huntsville in 04

Tom, sorry to hear that and my condolences to you and your family...

Here's another story on Chuck from the Birmingham News. He is getting a lot of press time which is cool... http://www.al.com/sports/birminghamnews/in...2710.xml&coll=2

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 06:10 AM) Damn! What happend to Casey's batting average? Wasn't he hitting in the .330's not too long ago? He has struggled in August. I think most of it is from being tired. The Barons have had a pretty Hellish schedule of late with rainouts / doubleheaders. They have looked tired the last few games I have seen at the Met.

I believe most of the rough starts Charlie had were due to pitching in a fairly steady rain. The conditions were terrible for his 8/23 start and the suspended game 7/9 that he eventually finished in Mobile was bad too. If he has decent weather he pitches pretty well... Here's the local Birmingham News story covering yesterday's start: http://www.al.com/sports/birminghamnews/in...5810.xml&coll=2

QUOTE(3E8 @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 10:15 PM) Not looking very good tonight.. Charlie can't catch a break with the weather. It was raining most of the time he pitched which can't help a knuckleballer...

QUOTE(ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 10:03 AM) Ya, Reggie Abercrombie, he's a mid-tier OF prospect for Florida Who once was a highly touted Los Angeles prospect.. correct?

Charlie before he goes out and pitches a shutout!

QUOTE(Chuck's cuz @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 12:43 PM) Charlie is on the mound tonight against Huntsville at 700 pm! I will come with updates later! I will be there cheering him on! Let's hope it doesn't rain...

Tom, What are your thoughts on all the Barons baserunning blunders this year? Coaching? Bad luck? or just plain terrible base running? I can't believe all of the different ways I've seen Barons picked off at the bases this year.

QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Jul 3, 2005 -> 03:00 AM) Next another routine DP ball on a comebacker that pollok threw a strike to Stewart but allowed the ball to tip off the top of the glove because he was trying to turn 2 before he had one Tom, thanks for the recaps as always... I was curious why they gave Pollock the error on that play because I thought the throw was good myself. It looked like Stewert lost his mind again late in a game (although there were a couple of other Barons who joined him...) Hopefully we'll turn it around tonight. I really want to see these guys make the playoffs...

Tom... really appreciate these updates... especially when the Barons are out of town. I wish you worked for the Bham Post Herald!

Fields sat again today. Sheez the Barons picked a bad time to suck....

Anyone know why Rogo was sitting last night against a RHP? I thought he might be hurt until I saw him dancing with Myron Noodleman...

Can anyone point me to a good website for Minor League roster transactions? The only one I have found is Baseball America's site and they are usually out of date. Thanks in advance...

QUOTE(JimH @ May 21, 2005 -> 07:57 AM) The West Tenn announcer commented on Jenks being wild, he said those in the press box agreed that Owens was indeed out at that play at home From where I was sitting (1st base side, 3rd row) it appeared the catcher still hasn't tagged Owens. Of course I may be holding a grudge against that umpire. She's going to get an earful from me this evening. She is quite possibly the worst officiator I have seen in my life (including Softball games)!

QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 01:03 PM) No he didn't tag up left on contact and it should have been an inning ending DP but what really got me was her changing strike zone it would have been nice if we got half of the calls the Suns got. There is no doubt in my mind this all happened becuase of play on Wensday where Razor called her out on a blown HR call and she carried it over into last nights game which is totally uncalled for Thanks! I appreciate your Barons recaps and I agree, that was the worst officiating I have seen at the Met. I dont' think I've ever been so angry at a baseball game before. I ended up leaving early because I couldn't take it any longer!

QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 10:43 PM) Jacksonville 15 Barons 8 W-Hull L-Pacheco Pacheco 2.2 IP 5H 6R 3BB 2K's Hull 5IP 7H 4R BB 6K's Barons Box "...Ria Cortesio made some calls that make me wonder how she even graduated Umpiring School. " Can someone confirm a play that occurred late in the game last evening? The Barons left fielder made a great shoestring catch and it appeared the Suns runner on third never tagged up and waltzed home to score. The Barons appealed at third and Cortesio called the runner safe. Did I see this correctly or did the Suns runner indeed tag up? Thanks for anyone's input...
