9/12 Sox at Royals
QUOTE (Tony @ Sep 12, 2017 -> 01:08 PM) Thought Yoan might have hit that well enough to leave the park. Ball does not seem to be carrying, at least to RF. Jose crushed that ball as well and it went 5 ft further than Moncada's. I thought it was gone off the bat.

9/12 Sox at Royals
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 12, 2017 -> 12:41 PM) Yea let's make sure this guy doesn't go back to the A's I know, lmao. Like, for real? This guy is worth keeping on the 25 man all year so we don't have to give him back? Who gives a s*** if we give him back. Maybe it's just Hahn trying to stealth tank.

9/12 Sox at Royals
Dylan Covey is the damn tank commander. LOL. That was one of the worst pitches I have ever seen given the circumstances. He couldn't have put it on a tee any better.

Jose Abreu with 1st Sox cycle in 17 years
It looks like Jose is going to go over 150 games played and over 4 fWAR. Great season from El Oso. Yes Greg, I'm also impressed that he's going to drive in over 100 again as well. Jose is one of the few guys I've watched that is a legit RBI guy. He changes his approach with runners on and less than two outs and usually it results in a well placed line drive and an RBI. He is not up there looking to walk or drive in 5 runs with one swing -- and his approach works.

Sox win again
That was a nice win. Only real bummer was Moncada getting rung up on a pitch 2 inches outside and Lopez sorta tiring the 3rd time through. That said, Moncada looked dangerous at the plate and Reylo pitched a decent ballgame. Abreu is obviously going through what seems like his annual late season surge. One year he'll be playing for a pennant hopefully.

Tim Anderson
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 11, 2017 -> 01:40 PM) Very encouraging to see Anderson start to turn things around. He's always going to be a limited offensive player due to his lack of taking walks, but the mix of power & speed along with potentially above average defense could result in a 3 to 4 WAR player down the road. I'm very glad they stuck with him through this tragedy despite how poor the results were. He's an important part of this team's future and I fully expect a significant leap in development in 2018. yea agree 100%

Yolmer Sanchez Appreciation
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 11, 2017 -> 01:00 PM) I am happy to say that when the choice between Micah and Sanchez came up, I chose team Sanchez. Let that ring out! Really, anybody that thought Micah was a legit 2B should wear the scarlet letter. You let Hawk talk you into that silly idea.

Yolmer Sanchez Appreciation
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 11, 2017 -> 01:58 PM) He's not dead yet. speaking of that, maybe he's trade bait, him and Avi might bring back something pretty decent!

Yolmer Sanchez Appreciation
He is 4th on the team in fWAR for position players at 1.6 and with his recent hot surge he's almost up to league average with the bat -- a quite valuable quality in a guy that plays 3B, SS, and 2B all above average. Personally I'd be considering making him the starting 3B next year. He's earned that shot. If he's really a 2-3 WAR player it would behoove the Sox to give him another 500+ PA next year. He's still only in his age 24 season and will be hitting his prime just as the Sox are looking to contend in 2019-2022. If nothing else he's proven that he'll have a 10 year career as a utility guy. Sox haven't had a player like him in quite a while. Remember when the "super utility" Bonafacio was on the roster? Ha!

Tim Anderson
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 11, 2017 -> 09:47 AM) I said it in a post in a different thread last week, but his defense has also stepped way back up. Anderson had 22 errors over 91 games in April through July. In the 35 games since he has a total of 4 errors. Let me just pile on the praise for the young man -- he's been really good in the last two months and it's been all around, with the glove too. He's always going to be a guy that relies on his BA to drive his offensive value (and will run hot and cold) but he has to be a consistent, average defender at SS to be a starter even when his bat is scuffling. He has the potential to be much more than a 1-2 WAR player. But for now I'm happy to see him looking like a decent regular again.

Carlos Rodon to the DL, will not pitch again in 2017
I've written him off, hopefully he surprises. Shoulder inflammation after how much they babied him? Yea he's just not durable. Inflammation probably being caused by a problem in the joint. Not good.

Friday Night Lights Baseball at 7:10 PM CDT
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 8, 2017 -> 08:41 PM) But, he was a #1 prospect in all of baseball On potential mostly. He has a long ass way to go. I think they f***ed up not letting him get either 400 PA at MLB this year or just keeping him down until next Spring. Hindsight is 20/20. That said, someone needs to talk to him about giving up switch hitting.

Adam Engel
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 8, 2017 -> 02:40 PM) Hmm. Dunno is the right answer at this point. However, if Hahn is successful in trading Abreu this winter, the picture becomes clearer. Then it's a matter of which DH's and which plays 1B. Early guess would be Davidson at 1B and Delmonico DH's. This allows them to use Sanchez at 3B for his defense. Trading Jose in any way to "make room" for Delmonico and Davidson would be a very stupid move. If the right deal is there sure, make it. You don't even consider Delmonico or Davidson's playing time in the equation. For a guy that is essentially bad Adam Dunn, Davidson gets way too much f***ing love here. Cool, he hits HR. He's also a butcher in the field and has an .280 OBP. There is more to baseball than HR.

Carlos Rodon to the DL, will not pitch again in 2017
Given his history it's logical to be skeptical about Rodon's health. That said, as pointed out, there's zero reason to push him and every reason to scratch him for any soreness. We'll see.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 7, 2017 -> 04:01 PM) At the very least, just by virtue of being a first round draft pick - he's going to get the next full season to develop. There's no pressure on him. If he's a position we need to replace, we'll figure that out after another full season, maybe more. At this point his draft status has very little to do with anything. He produced in the minors and he produced in his half season last year. He had a s*** sophomore year. Doesn't really matter if he was a 5th round pick at this point his talent showed throughout the high minors and it showed last year. His "pedigree" helps, but it's a minor factor at best.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 7, 2017 -> 03:37 PM) I know some have quit on Anderson already, but there are two things in my head. #1, he is another that was pretty raw when he got here. #2, the kid just went through the worst year of his life. I really want to give the kid a winter to get away and come back refreshed in 2018. From a SSS point of view, he really has been much better over the last month or so. For August he put up a line of .259/.272/.500/.772. That line including seasons bests of 5 homers and 16 RBI's and 56 TB. It is supported by a realistic to low .312 BABIP. In September he has been even better in just five games. It is also worth mentioning that despite the error total, he has played a much better second half defensively. He had 18 errors in April-> June in 69 games. Since July he has made 8 errors in 54 games. He made 14 errors in 99 games last year. The post July pace is almost identical to his 2016 work where he was a plus defender. Even despite what was about a worst case scenario for about half a season, Anderson is barely under a 0 WAR player, and rising quickly. Yea we need to judge him on a curve. He looked like a 4-5 WAR SS last year. He looks like a replacement level shortstop this year. He's done this at 23-24 as a raw prospect. He's probably a 2ish WAR SS true talent wise. This is basically what ZIPS thinks he is. We don't need TA to be a star, we just need him to be a solid everyday regular. That is still a fairly likely outcome for him. Especially as he puts the brutal death of his best friend right as the year is starting behind him. He's had a decent 2nd half: he's been run neutral (according to Fangraphs) at SS and has put together a wRC of 88 while still posting what for him should be an unlucky BABIP of 310ish. If he plays like this next year he's a 2 WAR, solid starting SS. There's no rush and we'll see how it plays out.

Giolito named starter for Tuesday
QUOTE (turnin' two @ Sep 7, 2017 -> 02:02 PM) Damn does that guy hate the Sox. He's an asshole in general. It's no wonder that he wasn't able to work in a FO environment.
