QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ May 10, 2017 -> 11:52 AM) It is an awful idea. If the Sox wanted to GIVE Frazier away for nothing, they'd be able to. Eh, if you assume there are multiple clubs interested, then the Sox will be able to make a trade. I mean what's the downside risk? You lose a shot at a C+ prospect in July? The upside is you get the same prospect, maybe you gotta throw in some cash, but you clear a roster spot for Delmonico and Davidson, two guys who will actually be around for the next good Sox team.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 10, 2017 -> 09:58 AM) DFA him. Honestly this isn't an awful idea. See if you can work out a trade and if nobody picks him up he's just back on the club like nothing happened in a couple weeks

Moncada to stay in Charlotte a while

QUOTE (StrykerSox @ May 10, 2017 -> 11:21 AM) Scotty Pods, too. what's even more amazing about those two is that they played a corner OF spot during the silly ball era and still, for the most part, were productive players. -

Very few players can make it work with an ISO below 100. Obviously Ichiro was one. Juan Pierre was as well. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 9, 2017 -> 07:03 PM) Probably just a planned day off, with the early start after a night game....and just a "mental" game off, with him going hitless the last couple of games. I think he's sat out at least one other time in the early season, at least. He was 4-9 with a 3B, 2B, BB, K, and 2SB in the two games prior.

Avi still struggles going to his right and back, but he's much, much better on balls hit in front of him.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 9, 2017 -> 09:16 PM) I don't care for a second if they lose 100-5 in games started by Pelfrey and Covey. Be nice to see Anderson do well true.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 9, 2017 -> 09:10 PM) Um good eh, I will always watch the games and want to win but yea I guess so.
-
Well this season is starting to go to s*** just like every may.
-
Avi hasn't realized that nobody is going to throw him first pitch fastball anymore. Come on man, you gotta adjust. Sit offspeed.
-
damn, what was the exit velocity on that ball? SMOKED.

QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ May 9, 2017 -> 06:43 PM) Daryl Van Schouwen @CST_soxvan 2m Geo Soto scratched. No word on why. Narvaez catching, batting eighth, vs. the lefty Santiago. this guy.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2017 -> 05:35 PM) Paul Skrbina @ChiTribSkrbina 16m16 minutes ago White Sox GM Rick Hahn says Carlos Rodon still in Arizona. Still progressing. Still no public time table for return. Scot Gregor @scotgregor 17m17 minutes ago Hahn says Carlos Rodon is still in Arizona, now throwing off mound. Still no timetable for return to #WhiteSox He's back to where he was 2 months ago!

Moncada to stay in Charlotte a while
chitownsportsfan replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It's less about development and more about money which I guess makes sense. By keeping him down until middle of July I think they'll save about 8-10 million. Sure he can work on his defense but there's little if any development left to do with his bat. I can't say I'm surprised but I am disappointed. -
In-Person reports on Moncada, Delmonico, Engel, Hayes

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 9, 2017 -> 03:15 PM) Having seen Fulmer and Lopez recently, I'd say you want Fulmer before Lopez - for now. Long term it's Lopez. But Fulmer is closer to ready at the moment. Sounds good to me. I just don't want to see Dylan Covey. -

Thanks for that. I saw Delmonico up close at the last game we attended in spring. He had a ringing double off the wall opposite field and held his own at 3B, although he failed to make a play on a slow roller you'd expect a good MLB 3B to make more often than not. I thought he was older and had less of a pedigree when I was watching him. But seeing how he's only 24 and was once thought of as a pretty high upside prospect gives me hope the Sox might have found something. In a few weeks I'd really like to see Lopez, Moncada and Delmonico all up but that means something has to be done with Todd for their to be any real playing time at 3B. -
Giolito can get strikeouts but god damn he has zero command or control, that's evidence from the pitch trax. He doesn't know where individual pitches are going and he doesn't have enough guile to not walk guys either. You can have control or command and be alright (although command usually leads to control) but you can't lack both.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ May 8, 2017 -> 12:32 PM) I personally would like for the Sox to keep throwing Covey out there as a starter. In my opinion, that gives him the best chance to continue his development and rectify his flaws as a pitcher. It's not like the Sox are playing for anything. His flaws aren't really fixable without a huge jump in velocity or stuff.

I made up a new stat for prospect evaluation

QUOTE (GermanSock @ May 8, 2017 -> 08:07 AM) His speed is a plus but the most important thing is that he hits. His Ks are some risk but if he can keep up the walks and hits for decent power ( 250+ ISO) he will be a good hitter. Uh, if he hits for a 250 or greater ISO he'll be one of the best players in MLB almost immediately That's more than decent power, that's elite, at 2B it's almost unheard of. I'd happily settle for a 260/330/460 line this year and improvement on that as he ages. -
Moncada's swing reminds me a lot of Cano's the more I watch. A young Cano no doubt.

QUOTE (daggins @ May 7, 2017 -> 10:28 AM) Covey starts until Shields or Rodon comes back. Holland and MiGo are probably traded around the AS break. Fulmer and Lopez get the call at some point. Danish, Giolito spend the entire season at Charlotte. At some point, with all those moving parts, Covey shifts to long relief. Next year, he goes to Charlotte as depth. Need to be flexible now, not time to worry about wins. Why not piggyback Beck and Covey until one of the established guys is healthy? Wasteful, even in a rebuilding year, to trot out Covey. As discussed in the game thread the Sox have better options in guys that might actually have an mlb future.

QUOTE (Jake @ May 6, 2017 -> 10:43 PM) How does Kevan Smith hit so well in AAA and look like he's swinging a lead bat in MLB? Also, somebody needs to intervene with Hawkins. Something is wrong and somebody needs to make it stop one way or another. Bounce him over to extended spring, get him talking to somebody, understand what's going on in his head, and don't put him back in AA or A+ or anywhere else until you find a level of pitching he doesn't flounder against. He's playing way below his true talent (even if his true talent is below-average AA player) and there's no way he's in anything resembling a good place mentally. He's probably just come to the hard conclusion he's not a MLB player and has already burned through the 1.5 million or so he cleared after taxes and agent fees on his signing bonus. Hopefully he bought some land or something and not just cars and rings. Best thing he could probably do is pull a Delmonico and ask for his release. He needs a change of scenery. There's roughly only a 10% chance he ever gets a MLB AB, but that chance is about zero percent as a Sox.

Whoever is doing the intro/outro beds on CSN Chicago this year is killin' it. Some really great tracks, mostly 90's pop stuff. -
