Sox v. Tigers @ 6:10PM
and then an awful call rings him up. FFS, this ump has missed numerous strikes low in the zone now calls one up and in that is clearly out of the zone. Robots cannot come soon enough.

Moncada got a cookie and missed it.

Goodness Castellanos is a god damn joke in the field. How did Smith not take 2nd there? Poor hustle.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 06:58 PM) OPS is actually a stellar .785 now. Even better His wRC+ is 113, that would be tied with Robbie Cano (appropriately enough) and good for 7th among qualified 2B. Not bad kid, not bad.

Sox v. Tigers @ 6:10PM
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 06:58 PM) He's hitting .230 and his OPS is somewhere near .770. Once things get to normal with him and hits falling/getting comfortable within the strike zone, he's already on a path to being a top 3 2b in the AL soon. He looks good, really good.

108 mph exit velocity. Mercy.

Sox v. Tigers @ 6:10PM
Moncada now has his iso up to .198. That is a reason to get very excited. He's flashing this power this early, the sky is the limit.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 06:31 PM) Sanchez's change is pretty good tonight so far. Fulmer has his work cut out for him. Yea he's got his three pitch mix working. Thing is Sanchez can fall apart at any time. I'd expect some better swings 2nd time through.
-
Sox v. Tigers @ 6:10PM
Fulmer's delivery just looks awful to me. Rushed, no leg drive, all arm whip.

Sox v. Tigers @ 6:10PM
Sanchez actually appears to have good stuff tonight. Go figure.

Trade avi in the offseason?
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 04:04 PM) Perfect example of what I was saying about poster arrogance. Perfect comp is Melky ,PERIOD. So cocksure yet ignored defense you know, the other half of the game besides offense. There's plenty of careful, nuanced, productive chatter on this forum. It's a great place to talk Sox. Just try and ignore the obvious trolls and not take things personally. I had a beef with SS2K back a year or so ago and once I realized that taking offense to everything is a poor attitude (in life as well as message boards) I found him a great poster. Not saying he's a perfect poster (who is) but everybody has opinions that at times you will disagree with, sometimes vehemently. Just don't take it personal or bother responding to it. As for the saber stuff...it's a tool. No more, no less. I played the game throughout my youth, including being a really mediocre DIII outfielder. I didn't even discover sabermetrics until a few years after I graduated but man I really wish I had before I stopped playing -- I think they could have helped me evaluate myself and improve. Scouting has worth as well, it's not an "either / or" analysis.

Trade avi in the offseason?
QUOTE (Soha @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 01:40 PM) If the Sox try to trade him, that's going to be be a major red flag to other teams. They'd be like, umm this is exactly what you should need for your rebuild, why are you trying to dump him off? I think it would scare other teams off thinking the Sox know something they don't. So with that in mind, I don't think they can get a good return for Avi. At least not one worth what he has been bringing. Just re-sign him. There's like no money committed to the future. There's little to no downside to this. Yea this isn't how GMs talk to each other and it's not the scenario the Sox are in with Avi either. The Sox are going to have a logjam in the OF the next few years. They have Leury, Rutherford, Engel, Eloy, Delmonico, Adolfo etc and everyone of those guys is 3+ years further away from FA than Avi, and thus fit in the rebuild time frame better. Any GM in today's MLB knows Avi's history and knows his inflated BABIP this year. That GM will also know that their have been changes in Avi's swing and approach that perhaps mitigate those concerns.

Are we allowed to get nervous about Moncada at this point?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 12:47 PM) Ugh. Realize that sometimes it just takes hearing something from a different person a different way can make all of the difference. Just because it happened after Abreu said it doesn't mean it hasn't been said already. Or that the whole thing is just a talking point that the players enjoy, because it's realer to them than looking at his swinging inside zone percentage or something. Jose is without a doubt a positive influence on the clubhouse and that is worth something beyond his on field play. That said, this whole "it was the bat the whole time" thing is just fluff for the players and media and some fans to enjoy. We want to assign narrative to things. Human nature.

Have the sox found an all star in avi?
I'm not an advocate of overly strict moderation but this thread is superfluous at best. Should be merged.

Yoan just hit a homer!
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 03:55 PM) http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/cws/histor...ame_records.jsp 29 on April 23rd 1955 against the Royals. That game also has the franchise record for runs (29) and home runs (7). Wow. Thanks, nice tidbit.

25 hits? What's the Sox record?

Yoan just hit a homer!
QUOTE (Scoots @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 04:36 PM) Living in Michigan, I can honestly say the Tigers fans are pretty accepting of their rebuild, even if it seems to be going nowhere. The Tigers have had their fair share of lost seasons in the last 20 years or so. I am looking forward to giving Detroit fans hell for the next decade however. Yea I'm from Michigan and have a lot of Tigers fans as friends. Their attitude seems to be "well it was coming" and "we had a good run". Only regret is just not winning that title.

Nice pitch.

Yoan just hit a homer!
Imagine how pissed you'd be as a Tigers fan watching this. You're getting smoked by guys that are going to be smoking you for the better part of the next 10 years most likely and you're seeing a club full of young dudes absolutely rip the s*** out of your old and s***ty guys.

Yoan just hit a homer!
Goodness, Yoan, have a f***ing day kid.

Yoan just hit a homer!
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 04:03 PM) Not a chance Avi would look for 4/90 or even 4/75. He's only looking at $6M-$8M next year, $10M-$12M in 2019 in his last arbitration years. Even if you slip him a little extra those two years, say $25M total that would buy out his first two FA years at $25M-$32.5M per year. Neither he nor his agent would be delusional enough to think he could get that. If he's really a 3 WAR player he's going to be looking for around 18-20 million a year. That's the going rate in FA now. He might give the Sox a little discount (say 4/60 this offseason) for buying out a couple arb years but then again he might not and will take himself to FA. Is he really a true talent 3-4 WAR RF? I dunno man. As I said, I do not envy Hahn here. This is a tough call.

Yoan just hit a homer!
QUOTE (Scoots @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 04:00 PM) True, he doesn't have that kind of track record, especially with his injuries, but if he stays on the team next year and produces similarly to this year, would you say he has earned that contract? yes I would. Thing is, at that point some other team is going to probably outbid the Sox and Avi will become a FA. It's a tough spot. I don't envy Hahn here.

Yoan just hit a homer!
QUOTE (Scoots @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 03:52 PM) I guess we shall just have to sit back and see what kind of creativity Hahn can do with him. Whatever happens, I'm sure it will be interesting. I mean, they did extend Anderson (I do realize he is younger) without him really proving anything yet. Not sure why they would pass on extending Avi, unless he just makes it difficult for them. Because Avi is not going to settle for ~25 million guaranteed like TA. He's going to be looking for something like 4 years 90 million. At best 4 years 75 million. I simply don't think Avi has the track record to give that kind of contract out. I know from Avi and his agent's perspective this is who he his, but from the Sox' perspective they have to consider the whole picture.
