  1. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 15, 2015 -> 10:48 PM) And I thought, and think, that even trying to pick up an extra win was silly, given the composition of the team. Just because there were more middle infielders than starters doesn't mean you deal away by far your best major-league ready middle infielder prospect. And everything out of the Shark camp indicated he'd be going to free agency, and wouldn't be giving away much if any of a discount. fair enough.
  2. la roche makes that play. wtf.
  3. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 15, 2015 -> 10:38 PM) Angel Hernandez is terrible. What does that even mean? It was a bad trade. Semien would have been more valuable to this year's Sox, never mind for the next 5 years. that's hindsight. ZIPS had around 3.0 for shark and 2.0 for Marcus. On paper, with lack of rotation options and more middlie infielders than starters, they made a move to try and get an extra win this year while still looking long term to sign shark. If it doesn't work out with Shark they get the comp pick, which I believe is pegged at around a value of 5-7 million. If you want to talk BABIP and Semien go ahead. His batting line is hugely inflated by it. Take 50 points off his line and he's down to a .303 OBP. We'll see if the power sticks. Marcus is a nice player, but he's hardly some surefire star. a challenge trade is a fairly common term for this type of deal -- where guys that are talented but for whatever reason aren't in favor in the org (money, performance, etc) are traided as the main pieces in a deal.
  4. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 15, 2015 -> 10:35 PM) Coop dam near in a parka. Cold front in cali and PNW this week. Lotta rain down from alaska. The bay area hardly has better weather than seattle overall, there summers and springs can suck.
  5. what planet is that a strike on to a guy that is 5-7?
  6. lol the As crew loves the Sox. They are slobbing their knob and the centrals.
  7. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 15, 2015 -> 10:32 PM) It's not simply because of his start this year, more that it's confirmed how I thought his history of destroying the minors would eventually translate to the bigs. And the general stupidity of trading cost-controlled talent for a rental when you're not right there. Especially at a position of need. It was a challenge trade. I'm fine with that. I mean, look at the trade the As made to GET him. Now that is an awful f***ing trade. Sure the timing affected the return but still -- Semien is no Russell.
  8. Great job Rodon staying calm and making good pitches to Lawrie.
  9. mental f***ing mistake as much as physical. Know who is f***ing running. Why was he not deep anyways?
  10. That is not a hard play at all. You have f***ing Bulter running BACK UP AND GET THE GOOD HOP.
  11. are you f***ing serious? I'm sick of Conor.
  12. For anyone sick of Hawk and don't care for Rowand, the As announcers are doing a great job analyzing Rodon.
  13. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 15, 2015 -> 10:28 PM) Is that sarcasm because he struck out? It was dumb. For a "saber oriented" poster you sure do like to have fun with selective endpoints.
  14. QUOTE (oldsox @ May 15, 2015 -> 08:35 PM) And Phegley? lol no. He got the start in a Mariners game I went to last week. He was awful. Had a passed ball that led to a run and his hitting...yikes. He's been negative WAR so far. He stinks.
  15. WMVP comes in fairly strong (thanks lake michigan) all the way up in N. Michigan. Lots of nights lying awake as a kid listening to the games.
  16. Figured this could go here: some love for the state of the systems' ballparks from BA: http://www.baseballamerica.com/majors/best-ballparks-minors/
  17. QUOTE (Wanne @ May 15, 2015 -> 05:33 PM) Chip Hale has seen enough...he's out of the closer role. Yep was just about to post this. Addison is a mediocre at best closer and he's better suited to a middle relief role. Even when he racked up some saves in Chicago it was always a tight rope act. His luck was bound to run out.
  18. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 15, 2015 -> 01:51 PM) Sox never go to arb. It's a part of their internal philosophy. They will give Abreu a pay raise (via arbitration process) and he will deserve it. Everyone wins. I don't even think they went to arb with Viciedo, who obviously they didn't care too much about pissing off.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 15, 2015 -> 03:31 PM) Best of luck to Carlos. He seems like a great kid, got chance to interview him after that insane 2-game stretch a couple weeks ago - his first unassisted interview in English (he's been working to learn it). I hope he kicks some butt. His twitter seems to be mostly about his family. Seems like a good kid.
  20. As clown shoes as the Sox have looked at times this season -- Oakland is right there with them. This is not a good Oakland team, not right now anyways. I'm very excited for this series and to see how the new look defense performs. I hope they continue to give La Roche more time at 1B and Gordo has earned the occasional start against RHP at 3B as well as the platoon role.
  21. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ May 15, 2015 -> 01:22 PM) The whole point it appears you are trying to make is that the manager should make personal decisions and that is absolutely not the case for any team in baseball. The GM makes a roster, it is the manager's job to best utilize that roster. If the GM does not like the way a manager is utilizing his resources then the manager needs to shape up or ship out. Exactly. His point is wrong there's no confusion about it.
  22. QUOTE (LDF @ May 15, 2015 -> 01:18 PM) you are taking 1 little snippet and embellishing it to make a point. pls reread the whole statement. jeez i would have thought i wouldn't need to explain something so simple. Your point made no sense. Chain of command. If the manager expects to have final say over his roster, he should seek another job. His job is to use the 25 men the GM gives him to the best of his abilities.
  23. Well according to Mike Scocsia, he did, along with Doubleday, invent baseball, so he's a special case.
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 15, 2015 -> 10:49 AM) Only if you think all people who work for someone else are puppets. Do you run your own business? If not, your logic makes you a puppet, since you must have a boss at your job. Robin works for Rick. It's that simple. Rick, if he's an effective manager, listens to Robin's views and takes them into account. But when they disagree, Rick rules. That's the way it works in any company. And thank goodness. Ozzie was rumored to have demanded some of "his guys" on the 25 man roster. f*** that. The manager works for the GM, not the other way around.
  25. QUOTE (LDF @ May 15, 2015 -> 10:21 AM) is it me and my dislike on the way the sox do things or does this sound like a dysfunctional way of doing things??? i mean i want to know the truth, no matter how bad it is. convince me. Rv works at the pleasure of his bosses, including Hahn. The Sox might well have a dysfunctional FO but IMO this isn't a clear example of it.
