Going to Spring Training as a fan
It's fun. You get to escape the last blast of winter and go hang out with a bunch of fellow baseball fans in the sun. I've been a few times, latest was 2019. I might go down for a few days this year, still working on planning something around that area in March. They have a bunch of kid friendly stuff at most the parks as well, they do a good job with it overall and it's a big month tourist wise so all the places are geared up and ready.

Going to Spring Training as a fan
Why? Biggest expense would probably be renting a car or ubers. So say 300 for a 5 day trip. Lodging is cheap down there, can get a place in Tempe for $100 a night or so that's decent. So 500 there. Flight maybe a couple hundred so about 1K plus your tickets and other expenses. Obviously this is cheaper if you're splitting things with a friend or whoever. Tickets are usually like 10-30 bucks and after the first couple innings nobody is checking stubs, can move right behind the plate if you want. The games are whatever but seeing guys warm up, work on the back fields, work with coaches, being around all the other fans in great weather -- that stuff is totally worth it. The weather in early March down there is just about perfect, usually mid 70s with good but not overbearing sun. Nights can get a bit chilly but usually no worse than low 50s.

White Sox acquired RHPs Jordan Hicks and David Sandlin from BOS
Yea it is, but Getz had to do it in that order, or risk getting even less for Robert. Sooner Ishbia takes over the better.

The Bulls and White Sox made on paper straight A trades in back to back days. Marginal roster moves, but still, it all adds up.

Austin Hays
This seems light given his production last year. Is there a health concern beyond just being relatively injury prone? I guess it's probably just that, doesn't seem like you can rely on him for more than 100 or so games.

Bonemer Boost
I'm taking the 45/60 guy over the 25/65 guy every single time. The entire point of Roch being a "quasi generation" type college prospect is that guys his athletic almost never get to college as SS. I really am having a hard time understanding (at this moment) trying to downplay his talent. Now if he lays a damn egg to start the college year sure, but I'll worry about that if it happens.

Driveline-Quero
Quero had 4th percentile bat velocity last year. Chisholm was at like 67th percentile. Color me a bit skeptical that he just needs a 2mph boost to get 20-25 HR power. Good article otherwise.

Bonemer Boost
I know I said I was above this yesterday but you're like Wario to Keith Law's Mario here. It's like you want to go against an industry consensus because...? Roch is right now, as of this moment, from every report, a perfectly capable defensive MLB SS. That's basically 2 WAR right off the bat even if he hits 220/280/380. His floor is basically Bonemer's median case. You literally just saw Colson play a very good MLB SS for three months while ranking 46th percentile in foot speed. It's not a 40 yard dash over there, it's about quickness, instincts and arm.

Team Breakout Article
It is a little crazy I just looked at the Nats, Marlins, Twinkies, Pirates OF to see if any was worse projected and nope, our trio of .8 to 1 fWAR projected guys was easily the worst on paper. Minny without Buxton is similarly ugly, but they do have him if he can stay healthy.

Team Breakout Article
The mods need to nip it in the bud. I saw this thread labeled "hot" this morning and figured maybe it was you know, about the article. Turns out it was just the same few people taking personal shots at each other mixed in with some baseball content here and there. I'm tired of it as well. As someone that grew out of that style posting years ago it confounds me that people don't just block and move on. Who has the energy and time to argue with the same folks over and over again once you're out of your 20s?

Team Breakout Article
ZIPS has Baldwin at .8 projected fWAR and a 98 wRC+. We have "handed" starting jobs to worse players, worse older players, in "contending" years. The dead wood in the OF that doesn't deserve to start is Beni, not Brooks. Brooks is young, has 4 years of control left and might be a decent regular. Starting him 5 days out of the week in LF is fine.

White Sox spring training invites
11 days until Ps and Cs. I might try and catch a game as part of a road trip I'm trying to plan from AZ to SD in early March.

Bonemer Boost
With all due respect: you're comparing an international teen signing that was like a consensus back end top 40 guy to a college JR consensus 1/1 entering the cycle with terms like "quasi generational draft prospect" by the cynical Law thrown around on them? Cholo is a really, really, really good prospect with what (at this data point in time) appears to have a "solid regular" floor. Salas never had "solid regular" as anything more than a median case outcome, at any point in his prospect pedigree.

Really doesn't mean much to me right now. Nice to have a riser but we have fallers too.

White Sox are dead last in baseball in revenue/payroll percentage
It's silly to blame any club for any action when it's all CBA anyways. If the cabal doesn't like how the other cabal members are operating change the rules, you know the rules you all agreed to last time.
-
White Sox are dead last in baseball in revenue/payroll percentage
So there is like a 100 million dollar difference between what JR claims on revenue and this chart. JR is claiming operating losses. Truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

Keith Law January 2026 Rankings
he had a big time hitch in his swing when drafted. hopefully they can get his hands through the zone quicker or he'll never hit enough to be more than a utility player.
-
Keith Law January 2026 Rankings
He seems like a guy that 1/4 the time turns into a borderline AS, 2 time out of 4 turns into a weak starter or solid utility guy and of course the other 1/4 just never hits enough to make MLB. Not a bad projection at that draft spot, agree with @Chicago White Sox

White Sox sign RHP Seranthony Domínguez, 2/20M
I've started to think this about certain beefs here:
-
White Sox sign RHP Seranthony Domínguez, 2/20M
Don't think Taylor has much value. He needs to prove he can produce and stay healthy. We have plenty of innings available for him might as well see what he can do on the South Side for now.
-
White Sox sign RHP Seranthony Domínguez, 2/20M
Profile looks decent. Walks too many guys but has pretty electric mix looks like. Hopefully he does solid and is flipped at some point.

OD 26 Man Roster Projection
I've said this a billion times at this point but when I saw him from the 3rd row or whatever here he stood out even as a shorter guy as a fairly explosive athlete. Just park him in LF 5 days a week and see what happens. He has the profile to become what in today's game is a 3 WAR corner player. Hell all you gotta do is slash 250/310/420 and play a slightly above avg corner OF. The statcast stuff on him bears this out, he's got a little juice, just hopefully needs seasoning. If not who cares, move on to the next guy. No reason not to give him like 300 PA before the ASB.

Jim has officially given his verbosity to Fegan, for the worse.
