I've seen collins catch all of one game in MLB. From that sample I have concluded he is better than Omar by quite a bit. His lower body is quieter, for example. Is he prime Ron Karkovice with the arm and blocking? Well no but he's tolerable once or twice a week back there from what I've seen. He needs to hit tho or it doesn't matter one bit.

christ the hype on this kid is so over the top. he's 20 give him a few years. he's at a whopping 98 wRC+ and his defense is eloy level bad at 3B. that said, helluva show there it's just the ESPN hype makes me react against him at times similar to Zion. So over the top.

lol I'm listening live to sports radio out here and some mariners beat guy just lamented that McCann is an all star over Narvaez. You can quibble with how Fangraphs does their catching defense calculations but we all know how awful he is watching him day to day (good old fashioned eye test) and I'd be inclined to agree his 1.6 fWAR is a fairly accurate summary of his overall value. They have McCann 8 runs better than Omar at this point in 2019 with the glove. Again that feels about right.

well he also traded a 4th starter for Eloy and Cease so you win some you lose some. Hahn might not be a great GM but he's done well with the rebuild so far and if he's not the guy to get them over the top it will because of bad FA and drafting not trades.

Yea it seems like this guy might get some burn in September when rosters expand otherwise he's just org depth in AAA for now. According to MLBTradeRumors if he's not on the 25 man next April he goes back on waivers so Sox will have to evaluate him rather quickly. Not that it's likely to matter.

He appears to be Palka 2.0 slightly younger and can actually play 1B from the scouting reports. Good swap just a few years ago he was an actual top prospect 1/50 he finds something in Chicago and you get a good player.

Starting next year if the "default" 5th starter is in the mold of Nova that's fine. He's a 5th starter all you ask is to get through 5 innings and keep the team in it. For the most part he's done that. The problem is the other three guys in the rotation not named Nova and Giolito.
