  1. any top 50 guy, gimme number 50. Just not some random A ball guy ranked #90. Closer to MLB ready the better. Any SS out there? We need SS in the system.
  2. good luck getting anything better than white the Sox got in the Yankees deal. I dunno what it is with some fans you guys see what the market is for relievers every damn year! You never, ever get a "haul" for anything but the most elite of the elite and there's like 3-4 of those guys in MLB at any given time which is why they are valuable. Colome and Bummer have combined for 1 WAR! Bummer has a FIP (I'm not using xFIP anymore because I don't believe Fangraphs has it adjusted to the new environment from what their own guy said) of 3.20. Colome has a FIP of 3.99! Look I like them both as Sox players. They have roles to play and are good at locking down the game but they just aren't that valuable relative to what else is out there. Just go look at relievers on Fangraphs. Colome and Bummer are not even close to "elite". Perhaps ironically, for those reasons I'd be inclined to keep both. They have more value here than a back end top 100 guy, which is the absolute most they'd get unless they decided to do something crazy and send a bunch of cash or an actual position player guy, maybe one of their "extra" OF in the high minors.
  3. I do that deal before the dodgers come to their senses. Relievers can be bought and traded for when it matters. That isn't this summer and fall.
  4. correct, it was on a base hit. Obviously a double is worth more and so on.
  5. I believe Tom Tango parsed out that a hit is worth about 10% more on average towards a run than a walk. It's really not much but it does add over 600 PA. That said, not making an out however you manage it is vastly more important.
  6. 250/300/500 while making plays in CF, hopefully. Then he can go from there.
  7. anytime ur profile starts with "potential gold glove CF 30/30 guy" that will be hard to top anywhere in baseball. Eloy can hit but obviously he's limited elsewhere. I like'em both.
  8. There are beer league teams in the Chicagoland area with better hit tools maybe we can fill out the other spots with open tryouts.
  9. How does non tendering an injured player work exactly? I'm over him as well.
  10. With the massive caveat that nobody knows what Mccann is looking for i would wait as long as possible to re-up with him. If you regress his babip down to a more sustainable 330 he's a solid regular but not a star. Solid regular is awesome but we don't want to pay him like this is his true talent until we know it's real. It probably isn't.
  11. With interleague and MLB.tv the novelty factor of seeing NL players (or vice versa if your a fan of an NL team) has long been gone and that was the primary attraction. I agree the game was boring the mic'd up stuff was a fun addition but the game itself was boring not sure what would change that. Other sports are having the same problem so it's not just unique to MLB everything is so media saturated now that the novelty of having all the superstars in one place isn't there.
  12. I don't understand how you even tie the two together. Yonder was a dumb move this one is a smart one. Put it in the ledger however you want but one had nothing to do with the other.
  13. the guys in MLB FOs that get paid to do more than mindlessly flip cards like an 9 year old at his first family gathering do.
  14. With the way they've been making moves it seems like Jay is an obvious DFA candidate soon. The money would literally have been better spent lit on fire but whatever Hahn has strong points FA is not one of them. Cordell kinda sucks but he's dirt cheap and has a couple tools that play, especially as just a 4th OF.
  15. I dunno have you been paying attention to what 1.5-2.5 WAR 33 year old DHs get in FA?
  16. Yea all I want is 10 run plus (so near gold glove but he should be able to do it if any of the damn reports are accurate) defense at 2B and a 350 OBP with 30-35 steals. That's 3 WAR or maybe 4 if he's an iron man 160 game guy. It's exciting to see him succeeding with such a crazy profile I am a doubter but I'm coming around. he handles the bat well which I worried about it's not so much that he's overmatched it's just he doesn't really approach hitting like anybody else in today's game.
  17. I used a couple free calculators from Fangraphs this morning on Moncada. Some are a little dated I think I used the 2017 calc on moncada for babib and it had him at an expected babip of 365 which completely matches the eye test on that one. Moncada is fast and hits the shit out of the ball that seems an obvious high babip guy but other guys like madrigal that don't really smoke it (ichiro maybe is the prime example) but can hit a lot of well placed line drives and really bust it to 1st can also have a very high babip without looking much at all like Moncada's batted ball profile. Speed is critical tho. Look at Avi, he's fast to 1st and it gets him about 10 hits a year. If you hit a lot of ground balls and you're fast you can make it work even in today's game. It helps Madrigal will have a spot at 2B because while I do think he'll hit for average he won't have any power. It's just not happening. Maybe he tops out at .120 iso. Oh well that's what the other guys are for. Madrigal just needs to be a solid regular in the grand scheme.
