  1. Eh. The pitching is the problem. Engel and Leury are actually pretty ideal as backups.
  2. Twins aren't fooling around. It's good for MLB to have interest outside the traditional large markets and it creates excitement of which the Sox have a legit shot to participate in down the stretch. Good.
  3. I thought that as well but maeda has 3 club options after this year so essentially they "fast forwarded" Garterol into a 3rd starter they control for 4 years. It's probably not the best use of a prospect, but it's one that's immediately useful to them. The Sox will be in a similar position next offseason one would hope.
  4. Great "reporting" Jon!
  5. never pitched more than like 160 innings. He's like a 3 WAR pitcher. I'd be pretty pissed if Chicago traded Cease for him. I can see why Minnesota did it tho as he has 3 club options after this year. If he works out they just got a solid 3rd starter for very cheap. Similar to perhaps what they would have gotten from the kid pitcher they traded. Of course he could totally stink in the AL or get hurt. They took a bit of a risk.
  6. Sounds about right.
  7. So the twins are "all in" apparently for this year. Interesting. I like that bet from a Sox persective. Weaken them in 2021+.
  8. Huh, so WTF does Minny get out of this?
  9. So Price is going to Minny? Oh man I hope so. Would make things a lot more interesting in the central.
  10. So Martinez opted in and now he's pissed? Come to the South Side buddy demand a trade!
  11. the third team is Chicago! probably not.
  12. I always figured they'd package the two. We'll see what the return is and then maybe start b****ing.
  13. What has happened to New Era?
  14. Oof. So much for playing time.
  15. The guys that stuck around after 2005 developed quite a strong clique in the clubhouse and I remember at the time a ton of rumors about how the "eh-ore" crew led by sad sack Konerko and some of the older vets was a toxic group in the clubhouse.
  16. Sox are relying on Lopez and Gio to not only stay healthy but also to produce above replacement level. That's a tall ask. I can see for various reasons both of those guys hurt/inthepen by June and the Sox scrambling.
  17. That was my thought as well. Pretty safe predictions and not that much different from the FG Depth Charts projections. Depending on how the final roster spots shake out I will be predicting 83-85 wins. If they add a bit more, gets closer to 85, add nothing really and I'll stay at 83. That just feels right personally. I can see a breakout season or two but also I can see some stumbles, especially with the young pitching.
  18. Christ this man can say in 200 words what can be said in 20. Anybody worth adding will be too good to accept a bench role with a top 20 prospect in MLB at their position already in AAA.
  19. Seems like a pretty fair deal for both sides although if I'm the Mariners I'm not exactly sure what the rush is to lock him up given you just started a rebuild. He has less trade value now imo.
  20. Stub Hub should work more closely with the clubs to prevent fraud. I don't really blame the Sox here it's more just that system is setup to fail.
  21. Hard to believe Stub Hub didn't know what was going on earlier. They guy was literally selling 100x the volume of Sox tickets as any other reseller on their platform and he was selling them at what they had to have known were rock bottom prices indicating he was either taking a loss or -- much more likely, was selling fraudulent tickets. And yea, what was going on in the Sox' sales department that they couldn't figure out why they were seeing so many of these "comp" tickets not only activated in their system but then resold on Stub Hub?
  22. I don't mind it. The logo and swooth are too big tho.
  23. It's a good day imo. February 1st is a huge date on the calendar for any sports fan. Super Bowl. Then signals the start of CBB tourney season and spring training, and then obviously the Big Dance and the start of real MLB. Meanwhile you've got the PGA Tour in full swing on the west coast (leading up to Pebble Beach and then the Masters) and the NBA is winding down for ASW and then gearing up for the final playoff push. If you're into soccer, it's the meat of the Cup and League season for all major Euro leagues, and this year we also have WCQ starting. For Chicago folks and most of NA above the mason dixon line it's also the time you start to notice the days getting longer and here in the PNW usually the 2nd week of February starts gardening season and the end of "winter" (at least any real chance of snow in the lowlands). Today is a good day.
