  1. stone would be a better manager than rick based on his commentary. he knows you can't ask guys to do things (like bunt) that they aren't capable of.
  2. the best player on our dIII team was tall righty that threw mid 80s with a good curve. he used to smoke a joint pregame and then go dominate. it can help some guys although personally don't recommend it.
  3. These two things go hand in hand. let a shitty pitcher get behind. against Verlander sure try and be aggressive.
  4. Tilson is the only guy other than Moncada on the club that consistently works a deep count when the situation calls for it.
  5. His ROS ZIPS is for an OPS+ of 110. This is tragically what he is now. A 110-120 OPS+ DH. 2 WAR player. He has 1.7 fWAR in his last 800 or so PA. That sucks.
  6. Nobody should be rushed beyond what they can handle but I'm not sure how much more Cease is going to improve going against AAA hitters. As you noted there is development that needs to occur for almost every player at the MLB level for 2-3 years after becoming a full time MLB player. We've seen it with Gio and Moncada and Anderson and to a lesser extent (lesser talent) with Yolmer and Leury. Robert is going to be in the same boat next June when he's slashing something like 300/330/550 in Charlotte. How much more developing can he do down there?
  7. It was a magical run and nothing can take that away. Thank God for that. It hasn't offset the 15 years of mostly bad baseball since then, but it has made it tolerable.
  8. Ah yea I remember that now. It was a team that was built on pitching and defense and the occasional home run. Seemed like every night the club had a chance to win thanks to a quality start. They had a better roster on paper in 2006 and collapsed down the stretch. The will remain one of my greatest disappointments as a Sox fan. I thought they were primed to go back to back, at least as pennant winners.
  9. How about: Leury Moncada TA McCann Jose Eloy Yonder Yolmer Tilson
  10. I'd love to see TA and Moncada at the top. Leury 9. That's 3 really pesky hitters back to back to back right before you get to the big boppers.
  11. He's guaranteed 34K a year plus medical for the rest of his life. His big league dream might be over for a year (or forever) but he's fine. On another club he might never have seen a single day in MLB.
  12. I talked about an extension for him the other week and thought something like 3 years 24 million but consensus seemed that was an overpay.
  13. Thank god it's McCann and Eloy 4 and 5. Castillo and Yonder at 4 are great rally killers.
  14. He's played a really nice CF this year. He hasn't even had more than 1-2 of his patented brain farts on throws into the IF where he misses the cut or throws to the wrong base. It will be nice to have him as the super sup in the next few years hard to carry his OPS as a starter but as a 4th OF and backup IF it's great.
  15. If you get nearly 1000 innings from 5 starters and around an ERA+ of 110-115 you're going to be good. Throw in an elite bullpen and average position player talent and you can win 90+ games and a WS. Don't think the Sox will be able to get that level of pitching during this rebuild but they can get much better position player output. Just need a couple really good starters to win a short series or two. Looks like Gio could be one of those guys.
