  1. He's like a 2.5 WAR corner OF, there are worse things to get from a 4th overall pick. That said, no way he should be on the Sox' rader. We need pitching prospects, not starting corner OF.
  2. Well I'm not sure the epistemological conditions needed to conclude the Sox can develop good defensive catchers so I'll concede.
  3. That extra year of control is worth a lot. Waiting to trade him you risk 1) injury, 2) performance dip and for sure 3) less trade value due to less control for acquiring club If you chase two rabbits you'll lose them both. Learned that in Civ 4. Just trade him while he's at peak value. The Sox can find a closer when they are good.
  4. Good point about the splits on Palka and Collins. I can't go back to Palka in RF. For now it looks like it's either Collins or Palka for Yonder.
  5. so what's your point then? take a stand buddy!
  6. There's what, like 24 starts a week at C/DH/1B/RF? 5 starts go to James at C. One goes to Collins at C, two more go to Collins at DH. Jose gets 5 at 1B, 1 at DH and Palka gets 3DH and 1 RF. Cordell/Tilson get the remaining 5 starts in RF. Collins would be the odd man out most nights but I'd still prefer him getting 15 PA a week and a big league catching start to time in AAA. Don't think he has anything left to develop down there.
  7. Yup, it would be pretty ideal. Palka should be up as well for Yonder obviously.
  8. There should be an agreement in the next CBA that if a guy gets popped for PEDs the team has an option to void his contract. Sox were put in a tough spot with Castillo although I still think he's a decent platoon catcher. His splits in 30 or whatever games this year don't really indicate much. He has a .214 BABIP and while some of that can be put down to soft contact not all of it. Regress him 70 points to a modest 284 and he's about right in line with his career average 99 wRC+.
  9. It would help if he was used exclusively against lefties but that won't happen whenever he's back.
  10. The most amazing development this season is that for the first time in recent memory the Sox have a good 25 man roster without major position player holes. Leury and Yolmer and Cordell and Tilson aren't world beaters but they aren't --2 WAR craters either. Could have used a few more of these guys from 2008-2016. Whoever is doing the scouting is doing a better job finding 1 WAR types for basically free.
  11. Narvaez has been one of the best catchers in baseball through 1/3 of the season and Colome one of the best closers. If teams think the price is nothing they are mistaken. I'd say if they trade him early (before July) he should get a top 100 guy, back end sure but could get a top 100 guy. Might have to toss in a little filler, maybe some cash.
  12. How many of the staff from 2010-2015 are even still around at any level? How much stock do we put in his improvement given he had his best seasons overall, not just defensively, in another org? It's far from a proven fact the Sox can develop catchers defense. Maybe their scouting has improved as they have found Narvaez and now McCann.
  13. you can dream a bit on this bunch, which is a welcome change.
  14. that's what I was thinking. not easy but pretty routine for a mlb quality 1B. cliche, but Konerko would have had it.
  15. This is the best position player roster in a long fucking time.
