QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 10:40 PM) Way more Lincecum-ish than Danish. Fulmer absolutely dominated the best conference in the NCAA. Biggest concern with him, IMO, is his mediocre command. I'm excited about his potential, but I have a feeling his first year will resemble Rodon's this year. I 100% agree with this. He will also have to work to improve his changeup (3rd pitch). The comp they made while he was at Vandy in the College World Series was Sonny Gray. He should probably follow the same path Rodon took, come up early next year, pile up 160 innings, and we should expect him to struggle some because he'll be a rookie still learning. Make use of Danks, pitch him 50-100 innings as a starter, work EJ and Fulmer in, get their rookie struggles out of the way, and then we're sitting on the best rotation in baseball in 2017 with everyone under 28.

I thought that ball was gone. Good work doubleT.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 10:34 PM) Quality start for John Danks. In 7 starts this season vs teams currently in first place: 2.20 ERA, 39 Hits, 2 HR in 45.0 IP #WhiteSox https://twitter.com/ckamka/status/629840108989120512 Well yeah, aren't like 4 of those against the Royals and he's been pretty solid against KC in his career? Then throw in a shutout against Houston.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 10:25 PM) Full speed straight ahead, even though the pitching staff is likely to have a lot of trouble next year if they're counting on Rodon/Danks/Johnson/Fulmer to team with Q and Sale. They should go with exactly that lineup and expect that you're working 2 rookies into the rotation and you've got 2 rookies in the infield and a struggling 24 year old RF and 2 large expiring contracts and major holes at C and in the infield. Play the kids, clear the contracts out, let guys move up in the minors, maybe have Anderson ready to go by July, and have both money to spend and very few holes to spend it on and lots of assets to choose from after 2016.

Clearly safe this should take seconds.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 10:22 PM) This season has flat out sucked. I'm just ready to get it over with and move on to the offseason. Hope Robin moves on and we get a bat in the offseason and make a few more moves and get this team ready for '16. Hopefully we stop pretending this roster is ready to compete right now and ask what it will take to make a sustainable, multi-year run.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 09:48 PM) And that clause does not extend to not seeking out human needs. Nor does that clause require a vetting process be undergone for all prospective sexual partners. If he is convicted, my guess is the Blackhawks could absolutely terminate his contract based on that clause. If convicted I'd assume he'll serve multiple years in jail and would therefore be unable to fulfill his duties to the Blackhawks.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 09:56 PM) What freaking game is Robin and Cooper watching? Ridiculously long leash here to just about seal this game. If you're expecting more than a quality start from Danks you're likely to be disappointed a lot of times. That said, they pulled Rodon for less than this.

Either melky was positioned terribly or he didn't hustle to get to it. Took 2 eons to get to that ball

That throw was nuts

GET THAT DUDE THAT BALL. Love that big smile.

My goodness that was an awful pitch.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 09:28 PM) Mets at Tampa tonight sounds like it's 90% Mets fans. Pretty interesting spectacle. New York retirees moving to Florida is something of a stereotype.

Nats sending Fister to the bullpen. Can't say I saw that coming at the start of the year.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 08:37 PM) Rangers acquired 1B Mike Napoli from the Rangers for a player to be named later or cash considerations. sounds like a short flight.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 08:10 PM) Why is that the only other option? How about doing some actual negotiations. Obama got pants. Kerry got pants. Iran is laughing at them right in their faces and they can't even see it. How about some actual inspections? How about someone independent getting samples? How about no 30 day waiting period. What the hell do we get out of this except a piece of paper that says something that won't happen? How is the IAEA not independent? The US DOE has tested whether you can fully scrub a room in 24 days and actually remove all traces of highly enriched uranium. You can't. That stuff is really hard to get rid of because it's extremely easy to detect a single particle of it. And that's on top of the ability to look for "large movements of heavy equipment" in the area. And if you don't think this deal is strict enough, I want to know what you'd do to increase pressure on Iran to make that happen...keeping in mind that no other country would go along with you because they consider this deal sufficient and the U.S. does not trade much with Iran. Basically...the U.S. was pushing for the strongest deal possible, to the point where they almost lost everyone else holding sanctions in the process. If the U.S. rejects this deal, the sanctions regime will crumble and Iran will know there is a high likelihood the U.S. is going to invade them in the near future. The U.S. will then have to race to launch attacks and an invasion before Iran can actually complete a crash course to build a weapon to defend themselves from the upcoming U.S. invasion. It's just about that simple. It's this deal or war with a country 2.5 times the population and 3.5 times the area of Iraq. Your choice.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 05:46 PM) Sure, their are people who would vote for Trump no matter what (cause they hate Clinton) but you would have a lot of republican female voters vote independent, not vote, or even vote for the democrat. That doesn't even factor in the other issues. Only reason Trump is where he is today is he's hit a chord with the American people regarding the overall frustration (and given his wealth and semi fame) people have regarding politics. I also think their are a lot of people voting in those polls (at least more then usual) who are listing his name because they want him to stay in the race for sheer entertainment value (maybe not a higher percentage but some sort of percentage). You want to see me compliment a Republican? His point that all he had to do to get a politician to show up at his wedding or whatever he said was to give Hillary enough money in campaign contributions and she appeared was 100% right on target. Major, huge problem. Shouldn't happen. That's our system today, and it's even worse now than the time he was talking about it. What are we going to do about it other than only allow billionaires to run for President is a question I don't think was asked or answered, but he was 100% accurate in that being an indictment of the system itself.

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 04:22 PM) On Draft Day 2014, I never heard of Kyle Schwarber, so I'm not pointing fingers... That said, if they did a re-draft now and the Astros and Marlins still took Aiken and Kolek, would the Sox be dumb not to take Schwarber, or are we still happy with Rodon? I certainly am content with a pitcher with dominant stuff. Talk to me in a couple years, but I can't complain about that move.

Are you guys willing to invade and occupy Iran for a 10+ year period?

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 05:22 PM) 1) Mass shootings or not, I can at least point to examples where guns have saved lives, which kills your presumption that guns always make things worse. You can't cite me ONE EXAMPLE of your premise that people will start shooting others accidentally. 2) The argument isn't so much that "hey i'll be the hero!" It's much more, "if i'm in that situation, at least I have SOMETHING to defend myself. I'm not at the complete mercy of a killer." I don't think anyone is under the delusion that they'll suddenly become James Bond in a fire fight. 3) A few hundred mass shootings? That number is going to dramatically increase now? Other than your fear and illogical assumptions, what is this based on? Weren't we supposed to have fire fights in the streets all the time btw? Has that happened yet? We've had CC in Illinois for over 2 years now. Where's that big uptick in murders? 3. There have been over 200 mass shootings in 2015 already. 2. The small chance of you having something to defend yourself against a guy with a gun versus the effectiveness of keeping that guy from having a gun in the first place? Sure, a mass shooting a day is a reasonable sacrifice for that, right? 1. Do you really think it's that hard for me to find examples of people who shot in what they think is self-defense and then killed someone by accident? In a single year there's about 15,000 people injured in accidental shootings and 600 or so killed. There are plenty of easily located examples of people shooting family members that they mistook for intruders, that's an easy one. The real interesting one though is the "self defense" one that is the George Zimmerman case. Although the studies are out of date because we stopped funding them to appease the NRA because every study you do on gun violence makes gun ownership look like an idiotic decision, there are several studies from the 1990s/2000s that suggest most of the "self defense" gun usages are cases that escalate, like the one we discussed here a couple years ago where 2 guys got in an argument in a pizza parlor line and wound up pulling guns on each other.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 02:26 PM) Said with zero evidence to back it up. As Alpha pointed out before, don't you think if that situation happened in the last 10 years, even once, that anti-gun nuts would be screaming about it from the mountaintops? I've literally never heard of that happening, where a would-be vigilante ending up killing or hurting someone. Never. I'm sure it's happened, but obviously not to a degree that we hear about it as a legitimate problem. How about I quite simply turn your argument around and say "how many mass shootings have been stopped in progress by a "good guy with a gun" who wasn't a trained officer? Yet this whole thread keeps repeating that fantasy of how you'll be that person. Maybe, just maybe, that fantasy isn't worth a few hundred mass shootings?

Back in the 0's when we played the Twins it seemed like they were in our heads before the series started. They had a cutesy nickname and our announcing team praised them constantly. Seems like KC is in that boat now, with an equally annoying cutesy saying involving them. Hopefully they're not in the team's heads, Danks has been good against KC but I kinda wonder if they're not getting into that "well it's KC we're going to lose to them" mode where as soon as something goes wrong they'll melt down. Let's see if they can prove me wrong.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 11:49 AM) Considering he can get the arm moving fast enough to throw 99 mph, I think he could throw a mean punch too. "Big guy, big reach. Skinny guys fight 'til they're burger."
