  1. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 22, 2015 -> 12:14 PM) Well he was injured. But he never had killer numbers past A ball. That said, I'd sure like to see some of our prospects match his .840 OPS in AA, but that's still not elite. He's also, for example, 2 years younger than Bryant. For reference, if he was a white sox player, I'd be pissed about them calling him up so early like this.
  2. Doesn't the challenge vanish at the end of the game whether its used or not and its entirely the umps discretion?
  3. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 21, 2015 -> 05:33 PM) Scout or develop? What are the chances he makes a flawless transition if he stays in the Tigers org? On the flip side, what are the chances Semien and Phegleyhit this year if they stay? The Tigers are having their own issues with Castellanos this year and you can certainly say they didn't take their time with Garcia either.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 21, 2015 -> 05:29 PM) The org just really struggles to scout offensive talent I think he has plenty of offensive talent. I think teaching him to use that talent is a much bigger problem.
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 21, 2015 -> 05:27 PM) Just remember what Hawk has said.... In 50 years, they'll be talking about the Avi Garcia trade as one of the most important moves in Sox history. He said this. And he meant it. Well to be fair, Montas and Rondon both came in that deal too.
  6. Only 5 intentional walks for the team all year. That just sounds impressive.
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 21, 2015 -> 05:10 PM) I wonder if this season could be it for Alexei in the majors. He's made about 40 mil, and it could be tough for him to get a starting SS gig again. SSs are still weak enough around the league that there'll probably be a couple million and a chance at a starting slot, maybe in competition with someone or for a crappy team like the White Sox next year if he wants to go another year or two.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 21, 2015 -> 05:03 PM) LaRoche's strike out rate this year compared to last year is insane. One thing I don't think people who defend Hahn's offseason realize is that we actually paid premium prices to bring in both LaRoche and Robertson. 1.6 and 1.4 fWAR for them last year and we're paying $13 and $10 million for them. Even if they did what they did last year we're paying premium prices for them. Makes sense if they're the "last piece" on a championship roster.
  9. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 21, 2015 -> 04:54 PM) Over 33K at today's game. Great crowd. Thank the Hawks.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 21, 2015 -> 04:52 PM) That's why I put the disclaimer in there that the other team would have to be in love with his potential, which would obviously increase the value the Sox would be getting back. I wouldn't trade him for prospects. Whether it's Sanchez or Garcia or Micah or whatever, we need to get this "it's important to win every game" mentality out of our head and give these guys what they need to turn into something useful. Even if that's just a backup/utility player. If Sanchez struggles for 300 more PAs but he figures something out, oh darn we've lost some games. If Micah getting PAs in AAA gives him time to work on defense with less pressure...oh darn we lost some games. If Garcia needs a year to really work on his approach...oh darn we lost some games that we were going to lose anyway.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 21, 2015 -> 04:48 PM) If there's another team out there that thinks he has 30/30 potential, then I wouldn't mind seeing what they would give up for him. He's exactly the kind of guy the White Sox should be trying to compile. Under team control for several years, has talent, if he flops so what, we lose more games? Oh darn. 67 wins instead of 68.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 21, 2015 -> 04:46 PM) Avi looks totally lost at the plate. This is where maybe a new voice with a hitting coach could potentially help him. This is where being hurt last year really hurts him. He was going to go into a major slump with his approach at the plate at some point but he's always gotten that lucky bloop to RF to fall. Now that's not falling and suddenly he's in a major slump that he has to figure out how to work thorugh.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 21, 2015 -> 04:41 PM) Why are the Sox so rotten in the Cell? Ball flies outta there. Because they're rotten.
  14. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 21, 2015 -> 04:38 PM) 7 innings, 2 runs. We'll take it. I read this post and thought "You're right, for the White Sox scoring 2 runs in 7 innings is a real improvement." I then figured out you meant Q.
  15. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 21, 2015 -> 04:36 PM) How do mental problems lead to losing 4 mph on your fastball? We're not sure but there's never been any actual statement that he was hurt last year and they've denied that IIRC. They really have made it sound like some sort of a major mental thing.
  16. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 21, 2015 -> 04:33 PM) I believe the issue with him last year was injury/mechanical rather than mental. The things we've heard suggest otherwise.
  17. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 21, 2015 -> 04:21 PM) EJ 8 IP, 4H, 0R, 0BB, 9K. Promote. Since he cracked up last year it sounded like they wanted to make 100% sure he was ready mentally before trying again earlier this year. I have no issue waiting to try him until Samardzija is traded. Patience is not a bad thing with these guys.
  18. Hawk's voice sounded so dejected there.
  19. That inning took forever and still nothign to show for it.
  20. He is one of the highest value players in MLB if you consider his contract status.
