And away we go.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 01:11 PM) Semien isn't with the White Sox. Exactly. We developed him effectively up to the AAA level and then a better organization was able to have him take bigger steps on offense.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 01:07 PM) Even so, you play to your strengths. Doesn't that mean we should trade for pitching only?
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 01:06 PM) More then the lower minors. Why? With Semien I can make a case we've had more success bringing people from the minors up to AAA than from AAA to the bigs. Basically, the right strategy would be "multiple players even if they're far away". And if the White Sox's system organization continues to massively fail as they are doing now, it won't matter what they target because they'll fail anyway.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 12:57 PM) You trust the teams player development for lower minors hitters? You trust this team's player development for guys who arrive in the big leagues?
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 12:48 PM) I get Johnson has had issues with his defense in the minors and I don't expect him to ever be a plus defender. I just think it's crazy that people look at how bad he was in an incredibly small sample and for some reason expect that going forward. There is no doubt in my mind Sanchez isn't a .400 OPS hitter, just like I don't believe Micah Johnson is the worst defensive 2B of all-time. However, I do believe Micah has a chance to be a special offensive player, which means he doesn't even have to be average defensively to add value to the team, he simply needs to be passable. With his skill set what exactly do you mean by this? For guys with speed but little power, defense is usually a particularly important part of their game unless you think Micah can pull his hitting up to legendary levels.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 10:35 AM) I agree, but that CF in Detroit probably decided it for Robin. Hopefully Eaton got his wakeup call yesterday...finally.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 09:51 AM) Why is there a day game to start the series on a Thursday? That seems odd. I was wondering the same thing. Something else in Detroit today?

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 10:10 AM) I think everyone agrees with you I disagree and think they will have to start from scratch to fix this. Or at least something very close to doing so.

To look at the "Sandoval is eating his way into a DH" comment a different way...you can put both of them in the "attitude issue" column which is something we're already struggling with. He didn't come to camp in shape this year, that's one mark. He's getting himself disciplined for being on his cell phone during games, that's another mark. Maybe the problem is with the Red Sox management and somehow the next White Sox manager will run a cleaner ship...but Sandoval seems to be in the same boat as Hanley right now.

QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 12:20 PM) This is what I think as well. Try to target advanced bats — preferably outfielders, third basemen and NOT catchers. IMO, if the White Sox are targeting multiple positions, they should target non-advanced bats. Scour the lower levels and don't demand someone who is going to arrive tomorrow. Yes it will delay the "rebuilding" this team needs to do, but that's the only way IMO to come up with multiple long-term big leaguers in a deal such as this.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 10:24 AM) "The Astros, Rosenthal says, are eyeing Samardzija and other pitchers, but the White Sox are not yet ready to sell" I really hope this is posturing, because there is no way in hell they have a shot at the postseason. If I am putting together a package with them, Im trying to nab 2 of Phillips, Reed, and Fisher or seeing if they would move Santana. To say again...the White Sox have a full month before there is actual "pressure building" to sell. They're not anything close to a playoff team, but they've got a month where they can wait for a team to get anxious or for a key pitching injury to occur and thus to have the price go up. The only downside risk to that strategy is Samardzija being the one who gets hurt.

Oh thank goodness. Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 24, 2015 -> 08:50 PM) If that's the case, give the major league playing time to the guy who has a chance of being a long-term solution at the poistion and that player is Micah. If Micah can't improve on his defense then he does not have a chance of being a long term solution at the position. Where would he be better able to work on his defense, around the clown show in Chicago or with the player development people in the minors?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 24, 2015 -> 11:53 AM) Having watched a month to six weeks of both Sanchez and Johnson, I think the team is much better with Carlos's defense, even if Johnson is going to give them a bit more offense. Sanchez is a defensive stopper at 2B, and has changed entire innings with his glove. To a team that is struggling defensively, and is as fragile as it is mentally, I think this is more important. We were 3 games below .500 with Micah and 6 games below .500 with Carlos so far. Honestly...maybe it really doesn't make that much of a difference, maybe we're crappy with both of them.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 24, 2015 -> 06:10 PM) All this talk of blowing up the White Sox. Meanwhile the Red Sox are actually worse record-wise and spent even more money this off-season. 0.5 games worse and they've played 1 more game, to be fair. But yeah, they might be in about as big of a mess as us...although they do have a whole lot more young contributors to sub in as a way to try to fix that in the next few years.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 24, 2015 -> 06:03 PM) Whose job is to produce a better defensive team? The GM or the coach? I say the weight falls on the GM. Like you said, how can anyone in their right mind build a team around pitching but fail to improve a pathetic defensive team. You could do that if your offense was going to be really solid too. You can prevent runs using the pitchers and then win games by pumping out runs. That's been almost the Tigers formula the past few years.

For reference, if you go over the last decade, 2006-2015, we're 2nd worst in baseball. Only Cleveland is worse.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jun 24, 2015 -> 04:00 PM) He has one of the top walk rates in baseball and has a .750 OPS, and he's really not that far off his career stats for the first half of the season. He's struck out too much and hasn't been great by any means, but overall he's been an above average hitter. It's not really fair to lump him in with the rest of the bums on our team. LaRoche is a C. He's about where he should be, but certainly no better. Personally, Abreu is a C- for me. He's contributing better than anyone else but he's absolutely incredibly disappointing on the year so far.

Melky is still hitless in 5 of his last 7 games. His numbers over that time look solid due to 1 game.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 24, 2015 -> 03:18 PM) Knowing the Sox, they'll trade Sale/Quintana first out of misguided sense of loyalty to Ventura's managerial legacy. They're so depleted on talent they should trade Quintana (or sale if someone offers the unbelievable deal it'd take to get him) anyway.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 24, 2015 -> 03:16 PM) Pedro Martinez, Randy Johnson and Nolan Ryan...Sale is the fourth. Get used to seeing Buxton doing that against us....but it's a bit like the White Sox calling up Micah Johnson or Tim Anderson in terms of his offensive preparedness. Re: Micah, we did. Re: Anderson: buxton's OPS at AA was 100 points higher. Re: Anderson: if we were in a pennant race right now, with the way Alexei is playing...you might get me to actually say "Why the f*** not".
