I know you want to let him finish the inning but taking him out would be the right move. -

I like letting Rodon come back out but someone should be ready in the bullpen if someone gets on. -

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 9, 2015 -> 09:00 PM) As always, I'm intrigued by your access to the Sox's financial projections. If your assumptions are solely based on Forbes, apparently we made $32M last year in OP and barely increased the payroll this year. So that right there gives you a decent amount of money to play with. That also assumes there are no new revenue streams for 2016, which is definitely a possibility but something you'd have no knowledge of. We also don't know yet if any internal candidates will be available to fill some of our holes. Sanchez, Davidson, Thompson, hell maybe even Kevan Smith could be pushing for jobs by the end of the season. Way too early to tell at this point, which is exactly why none of us should be jumping to conclusions just yet. Too much baseball left to know exactly what we have in place for next year. ????? Our opening day payroll in 2014 was $91 million. Our 2015 opening day payroll is $118 million. According to Forbes we made $32 million and we increased our payroll by $27 million. And if you're counting on any of those names you listed to fill a solid spot on a competitive team as a rookie, well I'm not going to buy that at all. The only way this worked was for this team to at least be competitive enough to sell a bunch of tickets all year long in 2015 and really sell the fan base on winning in 2016.

Pretty nice job to Votto. Will be tough on the lefties right away just have to throw strikes. -
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 9, 2015 -> 08:14 PM) 15th ranked payroll in baseball and which big salary guy do you expect to suck all season? Our team sucks because the entire team is vastly underperforming and we have a couple major holes that weren't filled. The only guy who is definitely a waste of payroll dollars is Danks. I think the problem is that you think this was an "all-in" season when it never was. Hahn's goal was to improve the team on paper and get it closer to a legitimate title contender in 2016. I think pretty much everyone agreed his offseason was a success in that regard. I'm not going to blame him just yet for the entire team sucking at the same time. We were all aware of the holes on the roster entering 2015, which would have impossible to fill in one offseason, so to can him for that would be incredibly short-sighted. So how are those holes going to be filled in between 2015 and 2016 when we have already committed over $120 million to our 2016 payroll assuming we pick up Alexei's option and most of the arb-eligible players? Unless we trade some people who are paid decently away we already have a greater committed salary in 2016 than what we have on the payroll in 2015, and that's with Samardzija walking. How are those holes filled when we have literally no money to spend as it currently stands?

QUOTE (LDF @ May 9, 2015 -> 07:36 PM) you bring up a good question, and i am going to stay in the blaming part. is coop to blame as well?? why coop and hahn? Yes. At this point all of them.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 9, 2015 -> 06:33 PM) Balta, do you really think JR and Hahn can tolerate another 135 games like this? Just disheartening. In the good 'ol days, there were 2-3 random solo homers at USCF to entertain us at least. It was entertaining most of the time, at least. I think they'll make trades but they wont' take it out on the management. Maybe they'll sacrifice a hitting coach. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 9, 2015 -> 06:13 PM) Meanwhile, the Twins are about to be five games over .500, sigh. Wonder if the Indians somehow being worse is the only thing besides JR saving Ventura's job? I keep telling you they won't make a move like that on their guy, an organizational-long-time guy, early in the season even if he were to deserve it and if they were really unhappy with him. This is kind of a solid argument for why you don't hire an organizational-guy actually, because sometimes you do have to dispassionately say "we need to make a change just to see if it does anything" and they're not going to do that because you don't do that to "family". -
One of the media writers at the DC-political magazine Politico gave this interesting description of how the media is looking at the race with Hillary Clinton:

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 9, 2015 -> 06:08 PM) Truth is, if we don't hit it really doesn't matter how many runs we let up.. Keeping pressure on their starter, defense, and bullpen to not give up anything would have been nice though. -

Apparently the Reds are 34/36 on the season in stolen bases whereas the White Sox are 5/13. -

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 9, 2015 -> 04:59 PM) Carroll is way more effective out of the bullpen as the long man/emergency starter. He really doesn't have a large enough number of pitches to keep batters off balance 3 times through the order. 3-4 innings where he only sees the lineup 2x or less he can manage it pretty well. -

I don't think Rodon lasts that long, he had 2 starts this year in the minors and went 5 innings in each one, the last one was on April 16, so more than 3 weeks ago. Since then he's had outings of 2.1, 1, and 3 innings. I just don't think his arm is going to be built up for 80-100 pitches. -
QUOTE (ron883 @ May 9, 2015 -> 12:50 PM) I love the idea of an other worldly shortstop defensively. The idea of Andrleton Simmons-esque shortstop (defensively) to back a solid pitching staff makes me happy. Given how good his D is, how good will he have to be on offense to be an good MLB player? Is he still a legit prospect in some of your minds? If his defense is as good as promised he just has to be Omar Vizquel with the bat. .629 OPS before he was 28.
