QUOTE (LDF @ May 4, 2015 -> 07:21 PM) i have never really thought of that. i got to think about that in the future. great point !!!!! And yes, maybe Rodon could be the exception.

QUOTE (Mike F. @ May 4, 2015 -> 07:01 PM) I'm just saying those guys are complementary pieces. The guys signed for $50 million are a part of the long term plans too, so the young guys can eventually make an impact in the big leagues with the mainstays on the team. If you've got guys in AA and AAA and you're counting on them to "make a big impact in the next 2 years", you're doing it wrong, especially with this franchise where guys get rushed so much they need a lot of time to adapt to the bigs.

QUOTE (Mike F. @ May 4, 2015 -> 06:01 PM) What about Rodon, Sanchez, Montas, Anderson, Danish, etc? Aren't those all players that are worth building around? Obviously none of them will likely be superstar quality (except for Rodon maybe), but they're all young, talented players that should be part of the core IMO. If your core is guys who are in AA and AAA then you shouldn't be spending $50 million on guys for this season.

QUOTE (LDF @ May 4, 2015 -> 04:41 PM) and your point is??? ok i got it, he ok'd the expanding of the payroll, did he also say when to stop??? According to reports last offseason they were close to their limit before they signed Cabrera but they felt confident in doing so after an increase in season ticket sales after the previous moves. If ticket sales on the season therefore don't go as high as they were hoping, because the team starts out slowly and doesn't wind up in contention...that tells me their revenue won't be where they thought it would be and keeping this roster together is in trouble.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2015 -> 04:22 PM) So the problem isn't with Jerry at all then. I wonder if Rick gave him the "here's the continuing rebuilding way, here's the high cost way" choice that KW gave Reinsdorf before the 2011 "all-in" season.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 4, 2015 -> 04:03 PM) 63-99 73-89 8-14 since he was named GM. Yet, for some reason, with no inside knowledge, he can do no wrong, and everyone else can do nothing right. I absolutely agree with you. If this team continues down the current path, then he's going to be #2 on my list of people who are in the way. No matter how many times you guys say this wasn't "all in", he bet a lot on this season. Traded for a 1 year rental player, spent $50 million this season, basically blew any chance of FA spending in 2016 if the 2015 team wasn't competitive. At the least we were supposed to get close. He bought into Sale and Abreu and Ventura and the supporting cast being able to be right there this year and as of right now it looks like we spent $50 million to tread water.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2015 -> 03:24 PM) Yet Jerry owns even more of the Bulls, and they continue to fly high. How does that work, exactly? This is the single most positive thing you've said about the management and front office of the Chicago Bulls in ~4 years.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2015 -> 03:17 PM) The blame should go where it belongs. The top of our rotation has gotten off to an awful start. Quintana, Sale, and Samardjiza have a combined ERA of over 15.00. The entire starting line up except one guy is underperforming last year. The bullpen has been the one area of the team that hasn't be horrible, and that was where a lot of the biggest changes happened. The players have been awful this year. Well we can be sure of one thing. There was nothing that could have been done differently to prepare for the start of the season.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2015 -> 12:57 PM) IMO, the Sox should be looking to trade Alexei already, especially with the Padres in the market for a SS and showing a willingness to overpay for players. Of course, right now "the price we'd normally demand for Alexei" would look like an overpay thanks to his slow start.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2015 -> 12:43 PM) And what has happened to attendance over that time? What do you think would happen if the outward plan was to suck, instead of giving any reason at all to come to the park? The rats have been jumping off of the ship already. This franchise would die if they decided to go Full Cub. Again the bottom line is Cub fans are loyal. Sox fans aren't. This is why Sox teams are rebuilt on the fly. If you want to ask why, that is your answer. The rats have spent 4 years jumping off the ship. There aren't any rats left. 2 years ago I would have agreed with you but we're now in year 3 of the disaster that we were somehow supposed to avoid at all costs.

QUOTE (bmags @ May 4, 2015 -> 12:43 PM) Even with this garbage season, I feel much more confident with the state of franchise than 2013. I agree that what the cubs did would have been preferable, but I would laugh that we tried to justify this and basically create a lost decade, basically for the almost year of 2012. I've said this before and I'll say it again, I don't see this strong future at all. We're going to be stuck with a couple big money guys next year who are even older than this year, maybe breaking in a rushed-as-usual rookie SS, we're going to be down one of our supposed "big 3" starters next year, and at the same time unless we trade someone we've already got $125+ million committed next year assuming they offer arbitration to people, which is already a payroll hike. So to me, no money to spend whatsoever, in fact a very good chance we'll have to trade someone just to cut that payroll down given how this season has started, a team that is either older or relying on rushed rookies, no depth, and the same major long-term holes. Only way I can imagine that changing is if we turn around the poor fundamentals, but alas.

QUOTE (Cknolls @ May 4, 2015 -> 10:22 AM) Was the ship in int'l waters? Based on what I read the area where it was grabbed is technically Iranian waters but they generally allow international ships to pass because otherwise no ships would be able to pass into the Persian Gulf whatsoever since the entire straits would be claimed by someone.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2015 -> 12:37 PM) Sox fans are screaming for blood after an 8-14 start with the biggest off season they have had in decades. You think they would go for a half a decade of suck? Not a chance. You might as well move this team to Oklahoma or something. 2011 - the Ozzie Guillen quits year 2013 - the $120 million disaster 2014 - ok, legitmately "seems like we're trying to rebuild" 2015 - shaping up to be a $115 million disaster. They're pretty disturbingly close to that already.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ May 4, 2015 -> 12:37 PM) Nothing would be more comical to me than spending last 5 years showing how superior trying to win on the fly is than complete gut rebuild only to waste all of the talent found during that time to go into a 6 year rebuild. The problem is that rebuilding on the fly has left us in a position that right now is as bad as we were 2 years ago when we started the most recent attempt at rebuilding on the fly.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2015 -> 10:13 AM) They aren't too comfy. They are way too uptight. This team could generate diamonds from coal right now. Comfy teams don't make as many over-aggressive mistakes as the Sox do. Except for that first week "being over-aggressive" was supposed to be part of the plan.

QUOTE (Tex @ May 4, 2015 -> 09:23 AM) Based on the definitions of playoff wins, there are only a handful of front offices that deserve their jobs. If there are franchises that are able to regularly build and sustain competitive teams, and your franchise is unable to do that, you are both failing from the perspective of "winning baseball" *AND* you're also costing your franchise money compared to what they could earn if they were regularly building a competitive roster.

Why should Robin Ventura have a MLB manager job
Balta1701 replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ May 4, 2015 -> 08:24 AM) I'm fine with that. Today would be the day for me but I just can't imagine they keep him while playing so bad for so long. I still do not believe they will do anything until the season ends. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 4, 2015 -> 08:33 AM) In my opinion, we asked for this as White Sox fans. Our fickle, dumbass fan base would not support a true rebuild. That is what needed to be done. They didn't want to waste prime years of Sale and Abreu so they went out and spent a ton of money to patch it together. The team spends a ton and it doesn't work and the fans don't come out to support the team. If they rebuild, people complain that they aren't signing free agents in Chicago blah blah and they don't come out. White Sox fans are a bunch of excuse makers. Nobody is getting fired. The team is 30th in runs scored and hasn't homered since April 22. That falls on no one except about the athletes that are getting paid to perform. At the very least then, the people in the front office who made the decisions to spend a lot of money based on last year's team and who made the decisions to bring in the players who aren't performing deserve some heat for those failings.

Why should Robin Ventura have a MLB manager job
Balta1701 replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2015 -> 08:21 PM) To me that shows some leadership is happening in the clubhouse. Abreu knows what this team looks like, and he is trying to take some of that blame off of his managers shoulders. That means they at least like Ventura, even if they don't play well for him. Leadership, support for the manager, 5 game losing streak. That shows me that whatever is going on continues not working. -
QUOTE (oldsox @ May 3, 2015 -> 08:22 PM) That means Sox won't give him QO, which means Sox do not get a comp draft pick in 2016, which means the trade has dubious value, from a second guesser's point of view. The only way he doesn't get a QO is if he's actually seriously hurt.

QUOTE (LDF @ May 3, 2015 -> 06:42 PM) so the players on the team is just bad, don't deserve to be in the mlb, so by your statement, no one is good to be on this team. That's why we spent that $100 million last offseason. -
QUOTE (daggins @ May 3, 2015 -> 06:34 PM) Coop is a big part of the pitcher health on this team, so he can stay as long as he likes. Have you seen the ERAs of the starters?

Woo hoo! We went like 4 innings without a GIDP!
