  1. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 03:29 PM) I agree but the scouting reports all note the ability is there to play SS, anyone got any more concrete info or stats from his time as SS this year in AAA? I would agree the ability is there but he basically didn't play much of the position at all until Semien was sent back down and Micah was called up. If a guy isn't being given work at the position I'm not going to express confidence in him holding it down.
  2. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 03:22 PM) He just looks like a 2B. He's got that build. Given the choice I think Micah is probably the most likely option to be a major contributor out of that slot, but it is nice to have options since it's a good chance one, if not both of them will bust.
  3. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 03:20 PM) I think you gotta put Sanchez on that list. He's raking in AAA, as a 22 year old that can play SS his slash line of 299/362/420 is excellent. Let him get a cup of coffee in Sep and then next year he should be the starter at SS heading into the spring IMO. GIve him two years to figure things out in MLB and see what we have. Obviously if he doesn't continue to hit you rethink it but so far so good with his season. Suprised more people haven't taken notice, guess his awful season last year, at a really, really young age for Charlotte, turned people off. It's really hard for me to project him as the starter, particularly at SS, when he's had so few games there.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 03:16 PM) At any rate, this is another deal where there are a lot of excuses. There need to be solutions as our country is barbaric on this issue. No more men and women should be spending their last moments screaming on their deathbeds because they can't get health care. The fact this isn't causing more outrage nationally is disturbing to me. Also should really help morale of the troops seeing how we're treating them when they get injured. The U.S. has a very long history of promising things to veterans and then forgetting about those promises once the fighting is over and Congress realizes it costs money that they'd rather spend on other stuff. This goes for both parties.
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 02:47 PM) Well first of all, I'd like to know more about exactly what we spend it on than I do. Second, at $15B per year or so (based on your information), that seems like a number too low to me as a percentage of our budget for something as key as immigration and border security. It also changes nothing of what I said. It averages out to about $15 billion a year, it's going up at much faster than the rate of inflation. Was about $10 billion a year late in the Bush term and is closing in on $20 depending on what spending bills pass. You may also note that massively increasing border spending has seemingly had very little impact on this conversation, as the exact same conversation literally was had on this page in 2007.
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 02:24 PM) Really? I thought they'd wait until June or so because of his arbitration clock. IIRC a few pages ago in this thread one of the big whigs is quoted saying they expect him up by the end of the year.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 02:21 PM) Sounds like they plan on starting him in the majors at 3rd next season. And he'll probably be up later this year. I guess the worst case scenario is Gordon Beckham, right?
  8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 02:01 PM) overall 85Ks and 26 homeruns in 266 ABs. The guy is truly all or nothing right now He's the kind of guy that, in my ideal world, I'd take it really slow with. The talent is there and exceptional, but the more he faces minor league pitching the better his approach will get. That, of course, isn't going to happen.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 01:33 PM) We spent over a TRILLION dollars on the Iraq debacle, but we cannot find $100M to set up the infrastructure we need on the border, and cannot put our military to it's most important use - protecting our nation from direct incursion. You realize that in the last 7 years we've spent more than $100 billion on immigration enforcement and border security? Like, literally 1000 times what you said the amount we don't have available has already been spent.
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 01:37 PM) Increased funding for the va would be helpful. Not creating millions of new veterans based on lies would help as well.
  11. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 11:03 AM) I'm sure in some situations it's going to be difficult, but you're going to be before a judge on this stuff, answering questions under oath. When was a drivers license issued, when did you get an SS card, where have you lived in the US, you have a child with US citizenship who is 22, etc. I mean this applies to people who were here before 2011, right. How are they going to prove that? And states have been happy and willing to issue drivers licenses and social security cards to undocumented immigrants, right? Hell, California hasn't even done that yet. Hence, flat fine that can reasonably be paid by everyone. Not so huge that people will refuse to pay it in favor of remaining undocumented. You could convince me that $2000 would work better, but higher than that and people are going to just stay undocumented because they can't come up with it from working in the fields. And then they face a 13 year immigration system gauntlet if everything works correctly.
  12. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 11:01 AM) This offseason will be fun regardless of what happens. So many possible moving parts. Lebron could win a title in most places but he'd be stupid to go to the West and run that gauntlet if he doesn't have to. I hope he does. That means Bulls can win the East. This is all basically hinges on Wade though. Bosh will probably opt out. If Wade opts in though, Lebron can't go back to Miami. My guess would be that Lebron and Wade end up back in Miami with more of a supporting cast and Bosh gets a max deal elsewhere. So, you were 5 during the 2010 offseason and don't remember it?
  13. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 10:58 AM) Then make it a penalty per year they've been here. A $1,000 fine is ignoring criminal behavior. Great. Please tell me how to document that?
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 10:55 AM) You mean like the VA who pretends that veterans don't have certain problems (Agent Orange is perfectly safe, you don't have any problems!) or just acts like people don't exist (waiting list? What waiting list?)? Yeah, thankfully the private sector happily covers everyone so there is no one they act like don't exist. And there are no waiting lists in the US private sector either. At least if you're rich enough, and as usual, they're the only ones who count. At least in half the country those parts are getting a lot better.
  15. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 10:53 AM) Not enough. I want back taxes owed and not paid. Great. And this can possibly be done how? By definition they're "unregistered". How do you calculate taxes if you don't have confirmable taxable income? They would, btw, be paying taxes from the moment they became registered in addition to the $1000 fine. Which would be part of the point.
  16. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 10:46 AM) The one that was essentially blanket amnesty? No thanks. If registration, criminal background check, $1000 penalty, 6 years of working followed by a renewal, 4 additional years of working prior to being able to apply for permanent resident status, 3 years as a permanent resident (13 years of waiting total), and a giant additional dump of money onto border security = blanket amnesty, then anything that allows an immigrant to be alive would be considered blanket amnesty by you.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 10:14 AM) Welcome to government run healthcare. It's been this way since the VA was created. The private sector does things better. 10% of veterans should just be SOL.
  18. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 10:21 AM) Yuck it up all you want, it's the truth. http://news.yahoo.com/us-releases-immigran...--politics.html They're allowing entire families in, "processing" them, and then setting them free with the instruction to show up at an immigration court later on. As if they'll follow the rules. This is a joke of a "policy." I'm not opposed to some compromise on a lot of illegals, but simply ignoring the problem is not a solution. And when one house of Congress has passed a very large policy overhaul that the other house of Congress refuses to even take up a vote on, you should ask which political party that word applies to.
  19. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 10:00 AM) There's about 3 ways he doesn't get opportunities until he's at least 30: -If his numbers are absolutely dreadful. -He becomes incapable of pitching effectively ever again. -He decides he doesn't want to anymore. (these are not mutually exclusive events) Either way, he's going to get like $6.17 mill guaranteed right now. It's really only hurting himself, but the thing Boras is best at is extracting the most out, even if it sacrifices job security and development. When people going into the draft talked a fair amount about how him being overworked hurt him this season, I think there's a solid case this swings both ways. He gets extra time off and doesn't work his arm too hard this year by waiting.
  20. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 09:56 AM) Danks: 4.34 ERA 1.393 WHIP 8.8 H/9 1.0 HR/9 3.8 BB/9 6.1 K/9 1.62 K/BB Salary $14.25M & owed $28.5M beyond this season Noesi with Sox: 4.37 ERA 1.422 WHIP 9.5 H/9 1.2 HR/9 3.3 BB/9 7.2 K/9 2.19 K/BB Salary league minimum IMO the ideal scenario is this: 1) Hahn brings in a top RHSP prospect or a RHSP reclamation project ASAP, replacing Rienzo, our rotation post ASB goes L Sale-R Noesi-L Quintana-R New guy-L Danks 2) Between Noesi and the new guy, hopefully in September we're confident in penciling at least one of them into our rotation next year. Hahn still acquires a quality RHSP prospect elsewhere. 3) 2015 rotation eventually works out where it's Sale-Righty-Q-Righty-Rodon, as Rodon takes Danks' spot, and hopefully our 2 righties come from within and are affordable. Ideally we get someone else with Noesi, both do well, and we pick up another quality option or two and have depth issues. Probably not happening though. Especially since we haven't seen him throw a single inning against minor leaguers yet, I think it's early to expect Rodon to arrive in 2015.
  21. QUOTE (gatnom @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 09:52 AM) I meant big payday, but what if his slider isn't all that special with a major league ball? There are tons of possibilities, though unlikely, that I can't fault him for getting as much as he can while he can. Then why exactly did we draft him so highly?
  22. He will re-up with the Heat and somehow the Heat will use the fact that he's not currently under contract as a way to sign 2 extra contributing players.
  23. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 11:38 PM) Btw if Obama and the left actually cared about these people and their parents, they would have tried to implement some kind of compromise on immigration. Fix the time it takes to get a work visa or even citizenship. But we all know the end game is complete amnesty because then dems get another X million votes. So Obama does the next best thing - pretend illegals aren't streaming across the border and a new generation of dems are born.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 01:25 AM) Then again, if the White Sox were to lose another 4-5 in a row...it wouldn't put more pressure on the White Sox necessarily, but they (Boras/Rodon) would have that leverage of the fact that if he doesn't sign, it's going to be crushing news for an already depressed fanbase looking for some signs of hope (for the future) in the 2nd half. These things have nothing to do with each other.
  25. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 11:47 PM) If he stays on this pace and plays in 140 games (has played in 63 of our 77, and likely will receive 7-10 off days), then he'll go 49/133. Has anyone else ever had those exact HR/RBI numbers? I thought Pujols, but he was 49/137. Ha!
