Me, I'm enjoying the scent of whiskey in the glass next to me.

Keep calling me boring and I'll put you to sleep.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 28, 2013 -> 04:38 PM) He doesn't need an extension. He's not going anywhere else and he did a horrific job last year. Just let it all play out. We don't need to lock up Ventura. He also turned down an extension last year (right before his entire team played like they wanted to be gone also).

I'll probably just be sitting indoors either way.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Dec 28, 2013 -> 01:46 PM) One word: Walker Braves make perfect sense, nice find Roostifer. Who are we getting back? Hope someone good. Nothing of use. Gordon Beckham is nearly a non-tender candidate and likely to be replaced before the end of the year barring significant, unexpected improvement. Gordon Beckham has nearly 0 value.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 28, 2013 -> 12:31 PM) He is signed through 2014-2015. It would make no sense to trade Boozer for him as Boozer can be Amnestied this offseason. The Bulls could potentially come up with some savings long-term by moving Noah for him or a combination of Gibson + Dunleavy, but that only would make sense if the Bulls got something additional back like a draft pick to make it worth doing so as the Bulls would be sending along a much better player.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Dec 28, 2013 -> 01:23 PM) I didnt mean the Sox take on Uggla, he just doesn't fit in with the Sox plans. It could be a 3 team trade where the Sox trade Beckham to Atlanta, Atlanta trades Uggla to a contender and the Sox get??? Just throwing it out there since the Sox rumor mill is incredibly slow right now. The problem is...replacing Uggla with Beckham is replacing garbage with cheaper garbage. Someone has to have a reason to take on the money. The White Sox would get basically nothing back in either case.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Dec 28, 2013 -> 01:12 PM) "The Braves, who have lost Brian McCann and Tim Hudson and done little to replace them, but it's not too late for them to recover this offseason, Mike Petriello of ESPN.com writes (Insider-only). They can start by signing young players like Jason Heyward and Freddie Freeman to extensions, Petriello suggests. Another fix might be acquiring a new second baseman to supplant Dan Uggla, and one possibility might be dealing for Howie Kendrick of the Angels, who need young pitching. Here's more from around the Majors." I saw this at MLBTR. Anyone think the Braves would interested in a Georgia native like Beckham? Not sure what the Braves have to offer but it could be a fit. WAR the last several years: Beckham: 0.6 0.5 0.9 1.0 Uggla: 4.2 2.2 3.4 0.5 Beckham has literally been worse than Uggla every year except last year. They'd obviously swap them straight up if the White Sox took on his contract, but Gordon Beckham doesn't obviously appear to be anything but a downgrade from Dan Uggla.

Good luck keeping it that way.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 28, 2013 -> 12:19 PM) Crackpot idea... Should the Bulls trade for Andrew Bynum knowing his contract expires after next season. Define "Next season"? Are they taking on money for 2014-2015? If so...no. What would they be trading for him?

But at some point the previous one did end.

Zero usages of that acronym is one of my New Year's wishes.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 28, 2013 -> 10:05 AM) Alshon Jeffrey snubbed. He'll still make it when people pull out.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Dec 28, 2013 -> 09:07 AM) A non-player in that role is a babysitter. There's also the chance that a healthy Paulie rebounds enough to be a contributor. We've all seen these extended struggles from Paulie before, and while his age is even more of a factor now, how many times have Sox fans insisted he was done only to be wrong? Not saying he'll end up as a regular, but he could help out a bit off the bench if healthy. You're right on Linebrink, I just named him since I think that Dunn's situation is unprecedented here and Linebrink was probably the closest recent example of a 4-year deal which turned into an unmitigated disaster. But I would also add that the Sox current situation, if not unprecedented, is one we haven't seen in a very long time. The 2007 team was kind of a temporary rebuild year, but even that year we had more vets on the roster and higher expectations out of ST. Even though we lost some pieces, we had won 90 games the year before. I think in this circumstance the Sox would be amenable to ditch Dunn by any means necessary because they would understand the value of an extra spot on the 25-man roster & the negative trickle-down effect of keeping a massive turd in your jeans while you walk around the mall. One other big difference between right now and the situation with guys like Teahen is that the White Sox have already traded for the replacements for De Aza and Davidson without having roster spots available for them. I can't remember them having done that before, put themselves in a position where a major-league ready guy legitimately has no roster spot at the time the guy is acquired.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 27, 2013 -> 11:41 PM) I have one question for you guys who think it's determined the team will stink in 2014 ... why do we have this playoff-ready pitching staff for a team going nowhere? Why didn't we spend some cash like the Yankees to upgrade maybe two more positions go with these dandy trades and win our s*** division right now?? With Leyland gone, the Tigers will be nothing to fear anymore. If this team is going nowhere FOR CERTAIN, then why not shut down Sale until we're ready to contend. Just don't even pitch him. I mean he's developed. Why waste one pitch out of that arm if it's 100 percent certain we're not winning anything next season?? Before you blast me, I think it's a legitimate question. Maybe even leave Danks on the shelf all year, too. And Quintana. He's also been stretched out enough that he's major league ready for contention. I don't think this staff is playoff-ready any more. At least not nearly where it was before Santiago was moved. Moving him was the right decision, but it creates a staff with an ace, a solid #2, 3 rookies and a couple guys coming off of injuries. That's exactly the staff this team should run out there coming off a 99 loss season, a staff with a lot of long-term potential but a lot of question marks for the immediate future.

Shot through the heart and you're to blame.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 27, 2013 -> 07:14 PM) They added Morrison and Hart, two players that SHOULD be at 1B/DH instead of a corner outfield spot. Dunn would be of no interest to them, because they also have Smoak on their roster and ditching Smoak for one year of Dunn makes about zero sense. Sure, they're trying to compete THIS year, but we at least are also attempting to create the illusion we could compete in 2013 as well....and giving Konerko a full season of at-bats at DH makes about as much sense as eating almost all of Dunn's contract before the year even begins. The problem continues to be roster spots. Right now, the guys we have under big league contract with no position are: Gillaspie Keppinger De Aza Dunn Our options are to either dump 2 of them uncerimoniously or to send Eaton and Davidson to AAA regardless of what they do in Spring Training. We have 4 guys on the bench right now who can't be sent to the minors. There's not even room for a backup catcher right now. As it stands right now, Davidson could hit .900 in spring training and we'd still have to send him to the minors just to carry a backup catcher. "Dunn might bring something slightly better in July" doesn't matter right now. If we can save a couple million, get him off the roster and at least give us a way to carry a backup catcher.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Dec 27, 2013 -> 02:40 PM) I don't hear a lot of people talk about Rose's D, nor have I noticed/remembered how good/bad it is. A Deng for Gordon swap is just done with the idea that Deng would keep the Bobcats out of the top 10 and thus meaning the Bulls would get their pick. Also BG has said he wants to come back to Chicago next year so here's his tryout. Rose's D hasn't mattered in 3 seasons.

So the "we're not extending anyone during the 2013 season" policy lasted until they decided the season was over, I take it?

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Dec 27, 2013 -> 01:25 PM) So Beckham joins Alexei and other recent White Sox infielders who've been more important defensively. The aforementioned -30 Alexei, career -46 Joe Crede, career -119 Juan Uribe who just signed a $15 million contract. For Beckham's career 5.4 WAR we've paid him $4.8 million. (That, by the way, does not mean that Uribe's contract was anything other than bad).

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 26, 2013 -> 04:36 PM) Man, you really like to argue just to argue. Fine, they bought out his arb years plus 1, so they locked themselves into 4 years for a whole 32 million, not 7 years for 120. The situations aren't even comparable, you're just trying to make a point for some reason. If Sale's deal actually had been like 7/$70, rather than the last/expensive years being options, I could definitely see the team hesitating or not signing that deal.
