Although, the English language is pretty screwed up anyway.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 26, 2013 -> 04:18 PM) Sale has a 6-7 year deal. Not if he destroys his arm somewhere, the last 3 years are all team options.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Dec 26, 2013 -> 03:21 PM) Right, I like the staff as is but adding Tanaka's potential to the rotation is mind boggling to think about. But simultaneously, the idea of him winding up similar to Matsuzaka in performance and injuries while getting $50 million more is terrifying.

Vermont and Massachusetts are getting ready to sue CGI General, the company that they and the Federal Government contracted with to build their exchange websites. Entirely plausible that the Federal Government will take some action against this company at some point as well. Over the last couple months their priority had to be "undoing the damage we already did", but now that things appear to be working at an almost tolerable level, a legal response seems warranted.

Weather in the UK pretty rough right now.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 24, 2013 -> 07:16 PM) lol... Chris Cotillo @ChrisCotillo 1m Now reports from Japan that Tanaka won't be posted, so now just hope your eggnog is spiked and there will be a decision when you wake up LOL, that's really what i expect. I can't figure out why that team would send him over for only $20 million unless they're desperate for cash right now.

QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 24, 2013 -> 06:02 PM) Now, I'm not saying Kyle Orton is better or really very good at all. There are some flaws in this comparison, since the teams were similar from year to year, not the same. Nonetheless, it says a lot about Jay Cutler that the main statistical difference between those two playing for the same teams was more pass attempts and picks for Jay. The value added from Jay is just not there, not significant enough. I understand where you're going...but also worth saying is that "continuing the same statistics through a larger number of attempts" is in fact a solid statement because quite often when a team has to throw more it means they aren't getting support from their running game or they're forced to pass in situations where the defense knows they're going to pass. So there is some positive buried in there as well...but it does have to be weighed correctly.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 24, 2013 -> 07:09 PM) Huh? Why do you think this thread just got bumped again? http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/12/gold...iro-tanaka.html Well, my bad, thanks.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Dec 24, 2013 -> 07:02 PM) If the rumors of the upcoming bidding war on Tanaka are true its a scary thought how much his contract will be. The cubs and yanks are desperate enough to make this laughable for sox fans. Not to mention the Dodgers and Diamondbacks have interest too? Yikes! Right now it sounds overwhelmingly like he will not be posted unless MLB changes their rules again. Their owner has virtually zero reason to sell this player for $20 million.

Santa Claus and Uncle Sam are one and the same (-Toby Keith).

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Dec 24, 2013 -> 05:37 PM) Any stat that says Alexei has been a negative offensive contributor out of the SS positions gets a nice gob of sloppy brown and swirls down to meet the rest of its family in the septic tank. Well, in 2012 Alexei was nearly at the bottom of the league in OPS out of the SS position, but he's been in the middle of the pack or better in his other seasons.

Obviously since one poster just dropped one in another thread.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Dec 24, 2013 -> 04:18 PM) People tend to forget that Beckham's success last year could have been due to his change in batting stance. It seemed to really be working for him before injuries happened. Give him a healthy year with that new batting stance and he very well could hit over .300. Unfortunately it was also a very punchless .300 even when he was hitting it, there was no power in that and he was relying on balls falling in. Yeah, he gets one last shot, but it's now up to him to prove he's not a non-tender candidate, because right now he is one. And then he coudln't stay healthy on top of that.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 24, 2013 -> 01:51 PM) I could understand a reliever not providing much of a change, but game to game, I really don't buy it making much of a difference when there is a day between games. Just put your 5 best starters in the rotation. That will get you the best results in the long run. Besides, series are usually 3 games, so the similar pitchers many times pitch against different teams. Pitchers either make their pitches or they don't. Guys don't get lit up because someone who was similiar to him pitched the day before. The question is...what happens if we're talking about the 5th guy out of 5 and there's really not a big difference between them?

Let's see if the Bears defense could stop Kramer.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 24, 2013 -> 01:31 PM) In the last year or so, I have switched completely and endorse this. If you had 5 Chris Sale's in your rotation, would you say "no, I need a couple Kevin Correia's to balance out the lefties" ? You know though, if you're talking about a guy like Surkamp who isn't necessarily coming in with the best stuff in the world...I could see how it would be a problem. One of the reasons lefties can be more effective with similar stuff is that hitters aren't used to seeing them. When they're thorwing mid-90's being lefty is just icing on the cake...but a guy like this it might be more of a worry. 3 lefties and 2 righties in a rotation, that's a decent setup even with a guy like this, just to give the occasional righty as a changeup.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 24, 2013 -> 12:52 PM) early forecast for Sunday. Kickoff temp : 4°, wind chill: -16° Oh boy, I am gonna need at least four layers to sit through this one. That is how it should be for Bears/Packers in December.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 24, 2013 -> 12:23 PM) I don't recall anyone saying they should be "fired" or that the record industry should stop working with them. The largest radio-ownership group in the country, Clearchannel (assembled in part by this dude named Romney) organized protests and boycotts of them as part of their official policy.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 24, 2013 -> 11:38 AM) And he played with a bad quad. He'll shut some people up in 2014 if he can stay healthy. Good. Because right now I'm expecting him to be replaced by a rookie before the end of this season.
-
QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Dec 24, 2013 -> 09:41 AM) Let's be honest,if it wasn't for his above average defense, Gordo Bacon would be in Charlotte right now or DFA. His defense last year was barely above average and it's getting worse every year.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 24, 2013 -> 10:26 AM) Agreed, but I heard he wants a major league deal Guys in their late 30's who haven't pitched in 5 full seasons can ask for major league deals all they want...yeah that won't be happening.

Barry Sanders probably still could score on them.

Brent Morel claimed by Blue Jays off of waivers

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 23, 2013 -> 04:09 PM) More surprised he wasn't DFA'd earlier, but this doesn't surprise me in the least. I would say this makes it more likely that Heath is the person DFA'd when the Downs signing becomes official. Also wonder if, barring any other small trades or moves, they aren't pretty much done for the offseason. They aren't going into the season with a bench of Konerko, Gillaspie, Keppinger, and De Aza. Someone's going to have to be moved somewhere - there's not even a spot for a catcher on the bench right now. None of those guys can be optioned and it seems pretty silly to acquire Eaton and Davidson and then send them to Charlotte. -
Zero points given up by the Bears defense in the last 12 hours. That's an improvement.

The Syrian government has spent the last month or so heavily bombing civilian areas in the city of Aleppo, leading to hundreds of civilian casualties including Children. This has provoked virtually zero notice anywhere as far as I can tell.
