  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 11:24 AM) dan durkin ‏@djdurkin 48m .@DanMcNeil670 @MattSpiegel670 if peppers is cut or released, it would actually be a $9.8M savings to the 2014 cap. Wow, now that's one of the most blatant attempts to confuse the point that I've ever seen.

    Alright begin

But it's my only shot at catching up!
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 11:16 AM) I assume it does, but I simply can't assume that the Sox pitching staff is anything other than average at this point. As I've indicated, it is certainly capable of being above average and a top 5 pitching staff, but Erik Johnson could put up an ERA/FIP of 3.25 or 4.75 and I wouldn't be surprised either way, and I feel the same way of both Danks and Paulino too. Thus, it's floor barring an injury to 1 guy who I won't name is a staff in the middle of the pack in baseball and its ceiling is one of the top staffs in the league?
  4. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 11:13 AM) 2013 Park Factors: http://www.fangraphs.com/guts.aspx?type=pf...13&teamid=0 You should also factor in home-field advantage. I saw an interesting study that show a statistically significant effect for hitters having home field advantage, not sure if the same exists for pitchers. So one of hte best 3 HR hitting parks in the big leagues and in the top 6 for hitting parks overall? Sounds fairly accurate to me.

    Alright begin

Zoroastrianism is still a fun thing.
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 09:13 AM) In what way is it above average? It's plenty talented, but it put up a league average ERA last year, which was 9th best in the league. They are replacing a guy who put up a 5.68 ERA, but also lost guys that put up ERAs of 3.56 and 3.79. It's certainly talented and has room to grow into an above average pitching staff, but saying that it is above average at this point is wrong. Frankly, we have no idea what they'll get out of the 3-4-5 spots in the rotation. I would not be surprised if they are all good to great, nor would I be surprised if they all struggled badly. The difference between a pitching staff actually being above average and having the capability to be so is huge. It put up a league average ERA in one of the best hitters parks in the league.
  7. What is actually remarkable is that the Bears always play the Packers tough enough to lose narrowly. If their defense holds the Packers in check most of the game, the defense breaks at the end and the offense won't put up enough to hold. If the defense has a bad game, the offense won't score enough to keep up with the Packers offense. Every single time.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 29, 2013 -> 07:43 PM) I disagree, I think he'll be back now Can't wait to see the Bears reach 1-10 against the Packers with him there.
  9. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 29, 2013 -> 07:37 PM) Cutler tripped Conte and caused him to let a WR run right past him and be open by 10 yards There's always an excuse for him.
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 29, 2013 -> 07:35 PM) Oh I'm sure McCown would have put up 40+ on them! You know what? The devil we know is 1-8 against the Packers. What's the harm? Cutler cannot beat this team.
  11. Jay Cutler's career in Chicago finishes up 1-8 against the Packers.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 29, 2013 -> 06:23 PM) If the Bears put up 28 points this half I'll call them winning it. I got the right number 2 hours ago, the Bears needed 28 points this half.
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 29, 2013 -> 07:27 PM) Lol. It's the players not the scheme. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 29, 2013 -> 07:27 PM) apparently thought it was a rule that wr's can't run past first down markers on fourth down These 2 posts don't fit together to me?
  14. QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 29, 2013 -> 07:22 PM) I feared a big play on fourth, so that was okay You just feared it on the worng one.
  15. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Dec 29, 2013 -> 06:58 PM) Because if you fail and the Bears score again and convert a 2PAT you're a TD + FG to tie instead of win. Good point, I was trying to get through the scenarios and didn't get to that one, thanks.
  16. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Dec 29, 2013 -> 06:48 PM) I wonder if Trestman does an adapted First 15 for the 2nd half. He's got a whole half's worth of play to base his decisions on and they always seem to just roar out of the gate. Just guessing...maybe the problem in the first is that he's simply better at figuring things out based on what he sees than he is at scripting things?
  17. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 29, 2013 -> 06:45 PM) If they get in here, go for 2. Why? Take the 8 point lead and make GB have to be the team rolling the dice for 2 points.
  18. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 29, 2013 -> 06:29 PM) I was going to say....you've seen this defense give up 250-300 RUSHING in a game. Let alone total yards. I kinda wonder what the Packers would be putting up on the ground if they were committed to chewing up the game on the ground (and had confidence their #1 rb was healthy).
  19. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Dec 29, 2013 -> 06:26 PM) Considering our defense I would be ecstatic. You know...that is kind of a good point I guess...but that doesn't say very much for the Bears.
  20. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 29, 2013 -> 06:24 PM) um, I'd take 260 yards passing for the game from Rodgers everyday of the week. And I'd take 400 yds against the Packers every day of the week too. The Packers average 395 yards per game on the season...so basically you'd be content with an average game from the Packers.
  21. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Dec 29, 2013 -> 06:22 PM) Both teams are going to finish this game with 35+ points If the Bears put up 28 points this half I'll call them winning it.
  22. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 29, 2013 -> 06:15 PM) Because you said something equally idiotic - a Lovie coached team wouldn't have done that. That's just absurd. Most of these guys were coached by Lovie. Edit: it's also idiotic because the defense played "well" (relative) that half - 13 points, 62 rushing yards & forced 2 turnovers. You did a decent job of leaving out the 130+ passing Yards Rodgers had in the first half. The Bears gave up ~200 yards in that half, which is pretty poor and about what they've averaged much of the season (and the conditions play somewhat to the defense today). They did keep them out of the end zone I'll give them that...it wasn't a "terrible" first half, but it wasn't playing "well" either.
  23. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 29, 2013 -> 06:09 PM) Lol, ok. The difference in fundamentals like tackling, focus, between teams that have the same players and switch coaches sometimes can be very startling.
  24. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 29, 2013 -> 06:06 PM) What? What does it say? It says his players are morons. An NFL coach should not have to remind his players how to play basic defense. "Hey guys, remember to tackle! Hey guys, remember you have to get the guy to the ground before he's down!" I mean seriously, find a different scapegoat. I think 2/3 of most coaches jobs are reminding players how to do the basics.
  25. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Dec 29, 2013 -> 05:46 PM) It's not just the strikeouts though man. The strikeouts are merely a symptom of a greater disease that festers inside of Flowers/Dunn: the inability to be a tough out. I know that concept is alien to numbers guys on this site because it isn't quantified. It could be though if someone was to watch every AB and note every time they couldn't play productive team ball. (Paraphrases): AD a few years ago- "I'm not paid to hit singles." AD last year- "My stupid stubborn ways, I guess I can try hitting away from defenders." Me- "f*** you." How was it that when Adam Dunn started doing exactly what people like this keep asking for and swinging early in the count for the entire month of April, he was one of the worst hitters in the league and somehow no one remembers that?
