    Alright begin

    Might well have found another thing we agree on.
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 3, 2014 -> 09:29 AM) I don't think he's saying that. However, having the opportunity to knowingly say good bye to an icon and one of the best players in franchise history is still pretty cool. If you are implying that the Sox are a playoff team without Konerko, then you're crazy. No, I'm not implying that, but he said it's the side he loves most. Applauding an aging veteran might not even be in my top 100.
  3. So...if this article is accurate on the numbers...front loading Cutler's deal doesn't leave them on the hook long term if he struggles or gets more banged up...but that makes it a major, major cap hit this year for a team that has huge needs on defense and possibly a ton of dead cap space. If the Bears don't nail their first couple draft picks and get more out of people they already drafted on defense, they're set up to be as bad or worse there this season.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 3, 2014 -> 09:23 AM) This is the side of baseball I love the most. Seriously, you'd rather watch applause for a veteran and a 65 win team than a playoff race?

    Alright begin

    Keep complaining. Australia is hitting about 120 today.
  6. QUOTE (buckweaver @ Jan 3, 2014 -> 08:49 AM) It's frustrating to feel the dearth of emotional depth from White Sox fans writing about Paul Konerko burning a roster spot on the 2014 squad or blocking someone's progress or, Lord forbid, being second choice to Adam Dunn (whom I do not dislike). Konerko is a team icon, and 2014 should be used to celebrate his terrific career, feel grateful that nearly all of it was played for our favorite team and thank him for his contributions on and off the field (consummate team captain, hard worker, played through injury...without ever a hint of scandal). Enjoy this for what it is...his farewell tour. At worst it means the team has to eat some Keppinger or Dunn money to trade/release them. But the three legitimate stars-a-comin', Abreu, Davidson and Garcia, won't suffer; they will only be aided with a year of study under Paul Konerko. We can only hope any of their careers with the White Sox will begin to approach what Konerko has done for this organization. Paul Konerko was so bad in 2013 that watching him struggle and be hurt for 2014 is not going to make me celebrate a darn thing.

    Alright begin

    Can't remember quite a few things
  8. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 2, 2014 -> 08:43 PM) Where has it gotten Cutler? $54 million guaranteed
  9. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 2, 2014 -> 07:11 PM) They're more or less getting the same amount of money. And conveniently missed the playoffs for the same reason - crappy defenses. Romo does play a whole lot more games though.
  10. Former bulls assistant Ron Adams talked to KC a bit about being let go.

    At least you did a better job than the admins of getting the right letter.
  12. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 2, 2014 -> 06:50 PM) Depends if you mean in terms of contract they actually signed, because I'd take Mike Trout and his contract over anyone in baseball, by a large margin. He has been worth almost $100M in his first two years. LOL, insane. Assuming he's not extended and gets the largest arbitration deal in history (which barring injury he obviously should), his contract will look something like this the next 4 years: $500k $12 million+ $15 million+ $20 million+ Whereas Chris will look like this: $3,500,000 $6,000,000 $9,150,000 $12,000,000
  13. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 2, 2014 -> 06:45 PM) Can we please stop trying to end all conversations with this? As soon as you can tell us with 100% confidence who it is.

    Alright begin

    You're causing problems now.
  15. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jan 2, 2014 -> 06:01 PM) I think he can. He's also a prolific base-stealer, so he can put himself in scoring position. Not bad for the 9 hitter (presuming Ventura figures out that that's where he needs to be). He can play IF or OF. But AAA isn't a bad idea for a year either. Honestly I don't think he can. I want to see him prove me wrong in AAA before I'm convinced. He didnt' have a good year in winterball and someone quoted Sox brass as being surprised how poorly developed his hit tool was
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 2, 2014 -> 03:18 PM) Samuel BlackwellThe Halas Holla...We Bleed Navy and Orange Jay Cutler in 5 years with Bears: 101 TDs, 75 INTs, 83.1 rating. Bears QBs in 5 years before Cutler trade: 82 TDs, 88 INTs, 69.7 rating. The median QB Rating over the last 3 years (15 teams worse, 15 better): 82.5. 83.1 would be good for the #14 team quarterback rating over the past 3 years.
