  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 17, 2013 -> 03:00 PM) The Sox really can't afford to deal another starting pitcher. Worth noting - this might only be true until the end of this season.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 17, 2013 -> 02:42 PM) Robin had a great first year; horrific second year. Now this year we find out if he's decent or not. First 5 months. Horrific final month there too.
  5. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Dec 17, 2013 -> 02:54 PM) That would make him more than adequate protection for "Miggy" Abreu. I have him penciled in to the 5 hole. The lineup is tough to put together since it's so right handed but I'd guess 3-4-5 is Garcia, Abreu, Dunn to start the season.

Lets just imagine what he'd actually have typed when his daughters get to a similar age..
  7. QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Dec 17, 2013 -> 02:38 PM) I kinda just threw them in because the potential is still there, but maybe a switch to another organization and coaching might help. I don't know what kind of realistic deal we can make with them. The problem is they basically don't have much value at all in a deal for a guy teams would have to pay a price for. They're effectively throw ins. Basically you're saying "Rienzo and Sanchez plus a PTBNL" for Grandal and I have a hard time seeing the Padres accepting that. If you replaced the 3rd guy with someone of value like Semien, then you have a deal that looks like it works. But like I noted in the other thread...Rick Hahn so far has not traded a single person out of his minor league system. He has done the exact opposite, he's traded heavily from his big league team to improve the upper levels of the system. Such a move would int hat light be the exact opposite of what he's been doing so far.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 17, 2013 -> 12:11 PM) Ken Davidoff ‏@KenDavidoff 35m The #Yankees and Brian Roberts have agreed on a one-year contract. #Orioles http://bit.ly/JDsZ9c Drat. That takes away any need they could have had for Keppinger.
  9. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 17, 2013 -> 10:34 AM) Would you accept that deal? I liked the first 2...then I got to the "either" part.
  10. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 17, 2013 -> 12:17 PM) This is where I miss Kalapse's payroll chart. He stopped doing it because B-R started doing it for everyone.
  11. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 17, 2013 -> 02:14 PM) I really don't see the point in moving Dunn right now. He has more value to us than being on another team right now as he is the only LH power hitter in the line up. I could see 2 of Gillaspie, Keppinger, and De Aza being moved before spring training. I prefer De Aza and Keppinger to go before Gillaspie, as I think Gillaspie could be a good bench guy once Dunn and Konerko are gone. I think the we move Dunn at the deadline, one because hopefully he has a decent season, and he would be owed less money for teams to pay. I agree with you on Dunn but it's been made clear the White Sox are still trying. If they don't move Dunn, then it's virtually impossible to have either Gillaspie or Keppinger on this roster. The bench winds up being Konerko, De Aza/Danks, backup catcher...and then an infielder. Gillaspie cannot be that infielder because he's never played even 2b professionally, let alone short, and Keppinger doesn't get used at short very much either. A bench of Konerko, De Aza, Backup catcher, and Keppinger is a silly bench since no one has any confidence with Keppinger's glove. You've pretty much got to dump 2 of them, even if it's for nothing.
  12. The guys you listed with "All star potential" aren't going to be all stars this year. Gillaspie, you say he deserves another year, but there's no where to play him unless you send Davidson to the minors. He's likely traded or released. And right now, this team looks like it should be compared to the 1999 white sox if you're looking for a recent memory team to compare it to.
  13. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Dec 17, 2013 -> 11:11 AM) What's really exciting about this offseason is that the Sox are possibly a catcher away from being close to competitive next year. I'm not saying they will be competing for the division title, but the moves made so far make the team look a lot better than the 99-loss mess we saw in 2013. The acquisition of a young catcher with potential would be keeping with the trend so far while also getting one step closer to being a respectable team for 2014. Now, obviously a few things are going to have to go right for 2014 to be more than a building year. In addition to the youngsters (Abreu, Garcia, Davidson, and Eaton) playing well, the pitching will have to be good and players like Dunn and Viciedo will have to contribute. Honestly, I don't think the Sox will be in the hunt all season. But as the team stands now, they could certainly make it a lot tougher for the other teams. More than anything, this team looks to be ready to compete as early as 2015 and for several years after. Just remember...the right assumption for all of these guys is that they're going to struggle. Assume Davidson is going to look like Tyler Flowers at the plate, assume Eaton is going to look like Phegley. You hope they're going to be better, but if they struggle mightily in their first season...that may only mean they weren't quite ready or that they needed longer to adjust to big league pitching.
  14. QUOTE (peppers312 @ Dec 17, 2013 -> 01:30 PM) Thanks! The bench worries me going into the season because if we go with 12 pitchers, 9 regulars, that's only 4 bench spots. obviously, PK and Keppinger clog up two bench spots, we still need a backup catcher (the thought of Flowers as an every day starter makes me ill), and then there's De Aza and/or Tank. Hahn HAS to have another move on the table. I think it's pretty much guaranteed that 2 out of Dunn, Keppinger, and Gillaspie will be moved. You just can't have a roster constructed any effective way if they're around. At the worst, the 2 IF's get cut at the end of spring training if they can't be sent elsewhere. De Aza still also seems likely to move, but it seems potentially useful to wait until Choo has signed to see what that does.

Just push one far enough back that it touches that thing at the back of your throat.
  16. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 17, 2013 -> 12:58 PM) LeSean McCoy had 8 carries last week. Didn't he have a pretty rough looking injury early in the season?
  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 17, 2013 -> 10:19 AM) Without knowing the incentives themselves, it's impossible to know how good or bad the deal with Baltimore was. It could have been 2 years, $9 million deal, $3.5 mill in the first year, $5.5 mill in the second with incentives of about $1 mill for 180 innings, 190 innings, 200 innings, 210 innings, and 220 innings and perhaps Baltimore also got an opt out clause too. The only thing we can safely assume, from an economic perspective, is that the player took what they believed to be the best deal for them. Gavin has also regularly been a 3-4 WAR pitcher when healthy. If he thinks he's healthy and can throw a season out at that level, then it's entirely plausible he could come out of next season looking for a 3/$45 deal and get it.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 17, 2013 -> 09:56 AM) Remember how we were like "nobody will take Asik in a trade with his huge last year contract". That didn't pan out at all. Someone traded for Asik?
  19. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 17, 2013 -> 10:16 AM) Is all that offset by attendence drop from last year ? Am I missing something ? They also cut prices on tickets substantially last year in addition to the attendance drop, so I'd say a 25%+ decline in gate revenues seems entirely reasonable.
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 17, 2013 -> 10:09 AM) I guess in that scenario, DeAza and Viciedo would split LF and 1B/DH would be shared among DeAza/Viciedo/Konerko/Abreu and possibly Gillaspie. I think there's a very good chance De Aza gets moved as well. It kinda makes sense to hold onto him until after Choo comes off the market, whatever teams don't get him will still have some money to spend and a need for an OF. I'd rather pay D2 minimal money to be a backup OF and play better defense than I would to pay De Aza decent money to do that.
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 17, 2013 -> 10:05 AM) If they somehow get someone to take Dunn off their hands (they are actively trying) then they have some money to play with. In order to get someone to take Dunn of their hands they're not going to wind up with much money to play with out of it. And there's a good chance some of that money has to go to pay someone to take Keppinger as well.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 17, 2013 -> 09:23 AM) He has traded 2 of his young guys with value however in Santiago and Reed. It would really be awesome if all these young players pan out. Yes, I note this...he's given up guys who have established themselves on the MLB roster, but in over a year, he hasn't traded away anyone from the minors. I think that's a trend.
  23. QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 17, 2013 -> 01:41 AM) Might as well grab Waiters and whatever else in exchange for Deng It's all about cap space. Can't take on too much without being unable to bring Mirotic over next year. I can see how it's about the time during the season teams might start making a move if they were wanting to be aggressive.
  24. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 17, 2013 -> 08:49 AM) I think he has like 19 or 20 career 4th quarter comebacks. The problem is that the media treats the Cowboys like they are still some powerhouse franchise, when they are mediocre as they come. In the last 17 seasons, they are 135-135 in the regular season with one playoff win. Dallas is 4th in the league in points scored per game and 26th in points given up per game. They're 32nd in the NFL in Yards given up, so their defense is actually even doing a decent job of preventing scores but teams just move the ball like crazy against them. The Cowboys scoring offense is really quite effective even though it looks from the stats like they never, ever, ever have the ball.
