QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 24, 2013 -> 02:18 PM) God I hate nothing more than publicly financed stadiums when the worth of franchises continues to skyrocket. Something specific provoke this today?

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 24, 2013 -> 01:30 PM) Do you think Jeter's coming back next year? Hard to believe he wouldn't have a Mariono-esque swan song season, but... He has a pretty valuable player-option in his contract worth something like $13 million.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 09:02 PM) I realize this is anecdotal, but it was my experience that at times, I could be in the middle of downtown Chicago with AT&T, full signal, and absolutely no data. It claimed I had full 3G/4G signal, but nothing. This was a common occurrence at sporting events, too, and meanwhile, my friend with his Verizon phone never had these issues...and I no longer do, either. Until AT&T decided to up their prices to the point they charged just as much as Verizon, I no longer had a reason to stick with them. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 24, 2013 -> 09:05 AM) The only problem I've ever had with AT&T service was the lack of it when I drove to AZ last year. Tough to get a signal in the middle of the country in most areas. Luckily that was a one time trip for me. I've had both of these experiences with AT&T (only with them because they're on a business plan for me right now). I get the former experience even when away from major events, AT&T just has times when it decides it's not in a good mood. Problem is sometimes you actually need that data. I used verizon a while back and found their ability to get coverage in the middle of no where quite impressive.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 11:34 PM) Broncos are gonna be tough to slow down You're judging that after a game when they played the Raiders? And a week after they played the 0-3 Giants who look terrible in every game? Losing Clady is really going to hurt them at some point. They're definitely going to need Miller to come back and be Miller at some point.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 11:44 PM) I enjoy spending the whole offseason hearing about how this is the year for KC and their stud young prospects, only to see them not make the playoffs for the 28th consecutive season. I'm going to dislike it this year because people are going to use them as a reason why the White Sox shouldn't try competing until 2017.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 04:26 PM) Luol Deng didnt play the series because of that spinal tap thing. Rose wasnt going to push the Bulls past the Heat. It sucks that we thought he was going to come back, but he didnt. On to next year. You're right, it was Butler doing the full 48 minutes because Deng was out and Nate doing it because of Hinrich. My bad, ty.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 03:55 PM) You'll remember that playoffs as what? Do you really think a rusty, timid Derrick Rose pushes the Bulls past the Heat last year? If you do, you're extremely silly. Hell, if they just had a "Backup PG who could play 15 minutes a game" that might have been enough to turn that into a 7 game series. Those guys were exhausted by the end, didn't Nate and Deng play 48 minutes a row in both games 4 and 5?

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 02:44 PM) Criminals can't have guns to begin with, that's already on the books. I didn't say "criminals", I said "bad guys". And a whole lot of bad guys in this country get their hands on guns any way they want to. -

Wow, that may very well be the 2 most completely distinct numbers I've ever seen treated as representing the same thing.

QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 02:07 PM) If we could disarm only the bad guys and leave guns in the hands of my Dear Aunt Sally who likes a fresh squirrel now and then, would that be ok? Your specific question was what happens when the bad guys are equally well armed to the good guys. Stop allowing the bad guys to buy the same weapons the good guys have, stop manufacturing them, stop selling them, destroy them whenever they can be found. Furthermore, start tracking them. Make them actual contraband. Investigate places selling illegal guns, make sure they know what is in their stockroom. Of course, that ought to happen with gun stores anyway but we can't even make sure gun stores know what is in their stockroom or find out which places are supplying most of the guns used in crimes because freedom. No I can't get rid of them all. But "I can't get rid of every stupid assault rifle" doesn't mean people wont' be saved by trying. -

QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 01:54 PM) I nkow we have a aversion to having the military attcking our own people, but at some point Jenk's point becomes real. The point when the "bad guys" are better equiped and as organized as the police, what is the next step? Disarm them. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 01:28 PM) That doesn't explain the rest of the year. Yeah, the rest of the year has impressed, but there were articles a couple weeks ago saying he was so banged up he really should be on the DL (but wasn't there because of individual stat goals) and his September numbers are completely consistent with that.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 10:37 AM) With the injuries he has had, it has amazed me that his bat hasn't suffered at all. Check his September splits.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 09:45 AM) You're right, he is. If nothing else, they should look to trade him because I agree, Cabrera won't stay healthy at 3B. Too much wear and tear on his body. I know he's on a winning team but that's going to be a tough deal to get done. Basically a DH, .785 OPS on the season, owed $13 million next year. Effectively that's a tiny, tiny step up from trying to trade Adam Dunn.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 09:40 AM) Oh I agree, which is what you'll see happen next year. There's no way they bring Victor back, even as good as he's been. He's still under contract next year right?
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 09:29 AM) Cabrera is different because he is much more hitter than any of these other guys. I expect, if anything, for him to transform into a Frank Thomas type as he ages, where he begins to strictly hit for more power when his bat speed slows down. Perhaps he becomes an average hitter rather than power. Either way, I do expect him to age well. I'd expect your right with one big caveat... he has to move to either 1b or preferably DH to do so. Like Frank. He's going to be destroyed at 3b and you can already see it happening the last 2 years. More and more injuries piling up by the time August/September roll around.

QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 22, 2013 -> 08:33 PM) Twitter is rapidly becoming the hell hole that was myspace. I've had my account hacked three or four times. They automatically set something up for me a few months ago requiring me to give them a phone number they could send a text message to, then having me enter a confirmation code sent as a text to that number every time i add a new browser.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 09:19 AM) No one ever questioned his ability to prepare the team. Did Tom Kelly ever have a team with substantial numbers of veterans play this sloppy? Did he ever have veterans whose play deteriorated this rapidly from solid to sloppy?

QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 12:02 AM) Bears have given up 350 yards to AJ Green and Antonio Brown this year...CB has to be #1 priority this offseason....If Tillman is brought back I'd like to see him moved to safety. Get him around the ball more and get him off speedy WRs. Said this one over at talkbears, worth repeating here. The yardage here doesn't bother me quite as much as it did in the previous games. The Bears had a big lead early. That meant the Steelers were going to be throwing the ball up in the air, taking high-risk chances to try to have a successful big play and get back into the game. Meanwhile, the Bears were in the perfect situation to "Bend but not break", the more high-risk plays the steelers attempted the more likely something was going to go wrong for them. That's the ideal situation for a team to pile up yards and an ideal situation for the defense to pull off a couple big turnovers, which is exactly what happened.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 08:08 AM) No, Crain was on the 15-day DL and not the 60-day, so the Rays had to add him to their 40 as soon as they acquired him. You forced me to check and I was right. Jesse Crain was moved to the 60 day DL in mid-August.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 22, 2013 -> 07:01 PM) A very normal schedule for what? A back-of-the-rotation starter. For an average player, for example, a mid-rotation starter.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 22, 2013 -> 06:53 PM) His age and his minor league career tell me he's a back-of-the-rotation prospect. You obviously disagree. A guy getting called up a month after his 25th birthday is a very normal schedule.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 22, 2013 -> 06:42 PM) What happened to the 49ers? Their offensive line sucks now. Not sure about their O-line but their receivers have been decimated. That can't be helping.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 22, 2013 -> 06:40 PM) With a back-of-the-rotation type prospect like Rienzo, I think the best place for him to develop is the pen. If he shows very good or better success leave him there and change his rle. Otherwise, let him develop while being the long man. What about his stuff makes you think "Back of the rotation starter"? Fastball was a plus pitch in the low 90's, solid breaking ball already developed, needs some work on his other fastball pitches (work which, of course, he will not get out of the bullpen since he'd just be throwing the fastball and the curve).
