The Sox/Twins Non-Sweep Aspirational Thread
Balta1701 replied to Joxer_Daly's topic in 2013 Season in Review
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 03:41 PM) He's still swinging better at the plate than he was a month ago, but his failures behind the plate are worse than ever. He's not very good, but I'm still convinced he'll get this entire year to try and win a spot on the roster next season. I think when stuff starts going down around the trade deadline, C will probably be one of the positions they make a move at. If it were me in that chair I'd want Phegley to get a look at big league pitching with more than an occasional at bat before next year, to help decide whether to give him the position or spend money there. Especially since McCann's availab.e. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 03:36 PM) Losing is probably what's best for the organization based on how the first few months have gone, but it doesn't mean we don't want to see development by players that can help the club in the future (ie: Flowers' catching ability, Viciedo being able to hit RHP, etc.). When the same stupid mistakes happen game after game and no one is held accountable, it's frustrating to see as a fan. Don't worry, now that Flowers's hot streak seems to have ended, the people who have been saying he's sucky and a failure and should be replaced will get their way pretty soon. -

QUOTE (Joxer_Daly @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 03:35 PM) Solid. I heard that being mentioned in the broadcast from last night's or Tuesday night's game. Wonder what capacity their ballpark is? (I know I could look it up quite easily, if I was really bothered.) Well over 40k. They're down a lot from when the stadium opened already. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 03:16 PM) Q: Why did you leave late at night with the deceased person and 2 other people, and return without the deceased person(who just happened to die on that night, 1 mile from your home)? We dropped him off here and I don't know what happened to him after that.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 03:08 PM) Again, they are an overmatched team. It's one of the worst teams in the majors and has one of the worst farm systems in the majors. I think you're overestimating how long it takes top college players selected in the draft to make it to the majors these days. If the Sox drafted someone like Rodon next year, I don't see him lasting longer than a full year in the minors. And I think you're vastly overestimating how much of a "Sure thing" drafted players are. -
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 02:21 PM) He's not bad, but he's not good, either. As of now, he is a pissed off former employee and nothing more, until he can produce more than a few slides from who knows what presentation. And wait, what...yes, when the government builds a huge complex that's used to store data for the next 4 thousand years, it should probably be reported. If the government built a huge complex for warehouse storage, I'm sure people would want to know what the f*** they're storing in it. But again, nobody cares. And why should they. You obviously don't based on your comments. I mean, according to you, the government has thousands of buildings this size being built all the time, when they really don't. I'm sure if they were building some tiny buildings, nobody would care to have it reported, but when you build a complex of this magnitude, it's a bit different, regardless of you attempting to claim it's not.
-
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 02:17 PM) That were misinterpreted, and people thought the government had full access to "secret" servers within Google, Apple, etc...which they didn't. Evidence with no context is messy. But they're not "Nothing of substance".

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 01:51 PM) Someone has to get fired soon, right? Why pay an extra salary for this year when everyone other than Coop and Herm will be replaced this offseason? -
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 11:54 AM) Snowden has offered nothing of substance other than his "word", by the way, and "evidence" that the US and China are hacking each other. Yea, thanks. He has offered no actual evidence about these programs, other than, "Yea, I worked there, and they're doing this." Oh ok. He's also saying they're doing a lot of things that people are refuting...including the President. He offered up selected slides from a classified powerpoint presentation as well.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 11:35 AM) (You're really not buying dinosaurs. You're buying algae that lived at the time of the dinosaurs).

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 01:34 PM) Why is this? Because very few teams will give up a major league ready upper level guy in a trade deadline deal these days. If a guy is nearly major league ready, the team will find a way to call him up rather than trading him to see if he can help.
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 12:45 PM) Dunn, Keppinger, and maybe De Aza, I think. Based on Hawk's repetition of the "I'm going to win comeback player of the year" story, I don't think he hates Dunn.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 10:10 AM) You're still missing the fundamental difference between "yeah I think the government probably looks at people's data/information if they suspect they're up to something or linked to someone that could pose a danger" and "I now know the government is setting up an industrial sized complex solely for the purpose of copying and recording everything everyone does." The amazing thing is, the latter disclosure might well be the biggest one here, and Snowden had nothing to do with that. Anyone could have readily reported "the NSA is building the world's largest data complex out West and will basically store every bit of data created from now until it turns sentient and kills us all in this complex", but no one did.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 09:44 AM) I'm actually looking forward to seeing what the Sox can get. I've never really looked at other teams' prospects because the Sox are typically buyers (or at least standing pat) at the deadline. But there are some really exciting prospects out there that would be great for the Sox. Keep in mind, it's a very safe assumption that the White Sox will get zero of the exciting players people are looking at.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 19, 2013 -> 09:14 PM) I have always been interested in the conspiracy theories on this one. I think the actual investigation was incredibly impressive in Its detail and skill.

Twinkled announcers showed the "worst run support in the AL" graphic. Sale won.

So....now that the major league team sucks........

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 19, 2013 -> 05:24 PM) Sox should just trade Alexei, Crain, and cash to the Tigers for Nick Castellanos. Why would you expect the Tigers need cash? Also why do they need Alexei? Who are they benching, Cabrera, Peralta (hitting .331), Infante (hitting .307) or even Austin Jackson? -
QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jun 19, 2013 -> 04:35 PM) We got too many similar all or nothing hitters Nobody would care about this if they were getting the "all" at a reasonable pace. We've got too many "Nothing" hitters.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 19, 2013 -> 03:49 PM) He'd have such a huge target on his back. I still think its the most natural position for him.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 19, 2013 -> 02:59 PM) FWIW, A buddy of mine is a huge Orioles fan and he's mentioned multiple times now that he's heard the Orioles have been making calls on some of our pitchers. They definitely have some pieces in their farm system I wouldn't mind getting our hands on. They are another extremely logical destination for Peavy.

You're Hahn, who are you looking to trade first?

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 19, 2013 -> 02:47 PM) You have to use every able resource to improve the team. If you can use payroll space to buy players (ala Rios claim) or prospects (sending vets out with cash) then why not? That's a huge reason why I'd love to be able to send out Dunn's deal if someone would take it on (or most of it) to get another player. That $15M next year would be great to put into a front loaded contract, a couple 1-year reclamation types on injured players, etc. I'd say we could eat all of Dunn's remaining salary & trade him but I don't think you get anything for that. Eating Thornton's cash however would bring something back. I can't imagine anyone would be willing to take on all of Dunn's contract for next season. I might be able to be convinced that someone would take on a portion of it. IMO, the Sox should start listening on him if they think they can save somewhere in the range of $6 million next year. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 19, 2013 -> 02:34 PM) So we are looking at a decent chance that New England doesnt have Hernandez AND Gronkowski next season for a period of time. You have to wonder how that offense will look, including Welker every one of Bradys security blankets have been removed. That'll definitely ruin it for the Celtics.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jun 18, 2013 -> 11:17 PM) I hope this was the end of the Troncoso Experiment. But I thought people wanted Nate Jones DFA'd and replaced by him?

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 18, 2013 -> 10:08 PM) It's not that hard at all. Comparable peaks and Duncan kills him longevity wise. And the Laker's were Magic's team through all those runs. Duncan kills the all time leading scorer in longevity?
