  1. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Dec 15, 2012 -> 06:47 PM) So Detroit's going to have the same rotation that got swept by the Giants. Cool. While they have to be the favorites going into the season, not just in the central but the entire AL, I think it's a lot to ask for Miggy to repeat his triple-crown season. And no matter how good his mechanics, I believe that Verlander's innings are going to catch up with him eventually. Trouble is... If Miguel Cabrera steps backwards significantly... Torii Hunter and Victor Martinez are two major, major bats that can fill in that blank.
  2. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Dec 14, 2012 -> 05:36 PM) I have not read this entire thread, but has anyone heard how this nut was able to enter the school? It's an elementary school surrounded by woods in something of a rural area, as much as there is in that part of the country. I doubt the doors were locked, and the probably was no security. There probably was a principal who had a view of the main entrance, but he could probably walk in at his leisure.
  3. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 14, 2012 -> 05:07 PM) I sure as s*** hope not. But not taking Olt originally is crazy to me. Could be that Toronto has an even better offer on the table. Or Olt could have never been offered.
  4. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 14, 2012 -> 05:03 PM) If Sale stays healthy in 2013, and Quintana holds up, I'd be totally willing to see the Sox trade Danks next offseason. I'd throw Santiago into that mix. If all 3 of them look like solid options, I'm in. I can live with 3 lefties in the rotation.
  5. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 14, 2012 -> 05:08 PM) It's not a joke. That's exactly how the gun defenders are, and I'm f***ing sick of it. There's a reason the USA is so far and away the leader in gun deaths. Anytime any action is started, the NRA comes in and "saves the day". And then today happens. And then something next week happens. Say that, rather than the sarcastic image. I'd say a bit of decorum could do everyone some good today.
  6. Police saying that no officer responding to the incident fired their weapon. Unless there was a security guard or someone else there that was armed, that leaves only 1 way for him to have died, although they won't confirm that he killed himself without an autopsy. Also, re: a few previous posts, the report of a body found associated with this in Hoboken NJ has been retracted.
  7. QUOTE (spiderman @ Dec 14, 2012 -> 04:55 PM) You mean, in terms of being traded? With his salary, if he wasn't hurt and had a normal season last year, the Sox would be shopping him everywhere.
  8. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 14, 2012 -> 04:53 PM) Stop with the facts. NRA YEE HAWWWW Seriously. Not the least bit a good day for jokes. It's just not. The sarcasm does not do anyone favors.
  9. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Dec 14, 2012 -> 04:28 PM) Some R.A. Dickey news: Fits more in the general offseason thread?
  10. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 14, 2012 -> 04:24 PM) I completely understand being concerned about your kids well-being at school for a while, that would only be natural after a horrific event like this. But to worry that one psychopath will inspire someone to copycat a previous psychopath and as a result not see a movie is too much for me. This was a random act of violence by someone with serious mental illness. These events will never stop and could happen at any place at any time. Either you can live in fear, lock your doors, and never go outside or you can respect that life is not guaranteed and enjoy it while it lasts. (Thank you for repeating the rational version. It just helps to be forced to read it).
  11. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 14, 2012 -> 04:08 PM) Balta, Plane could crash into your house. Never know what will happen, might as well live your life and hope for the best. Thank you, again, actually helps a bit.
  12. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 14, 2012 -> 04:05 PM) It sounded like Balta was saying he was worried about being CAUGHT having his gun on him while he is at the theaters, or maybe I read that wrong. God no. I'm worried about going in the first place. I kept thinking about all the other idiots who got caught with guns on their way to the theater. I just want to see the movie. Don't own a gun, ask anyone who posts in this forum. Thank you, being able to have a visceral emotional reaction to that statement actually cleared my head more than you'd think.
  13. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Dec 14, 2012 -> 04:03 PM) He's not the only one, my manager cancelled a team outing to see Batman because of the shooting. With the recent rash of gun attacks, you can't blame people for being cautious, especially because they are popping up in such public places. I'm not even saying it's being cautious. It's more the freakout reaction. I know it makes no sense but I'm fighting to shut it down.
  14. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 14, 2012 -> 04:01 PM) Jesus f***ing Christ, are you serious? Yes.
  15. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 14, 2012 -> 03:59 PM) I'm going tomorrow. You'll be fine. Also, apparently Obama was crying during his statement. Yeah I already watched, video's on youtube, figured posting it here was excessive. Anyway, the part of my brain that works rationally knows you're right. The damn emotional part had that instant reaction, and I'm trying to figure out how to calm it.
  16. Ok, legit emotional reaction, someone tell me I have nothing to worry about. I was planning to go see The Hobbit tomorrow afternoon. I can't get out of my head all the cases of people getting caught with guns on their way to movie theaters after the last one. Someone reassure me rationally on this, please?
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 14, 2012 -> 03:43 PM) It is the same spot the White Sox are in with John Danks. I think he would actually be #1 on their list right now with all of the lefty pitching we have. Except Garza's a free agent at the end of next year...so they also have to figure out whether they want to keep him.
  18. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Dec 14, 2012 -> 03:29 PM) I'm pretty sure Hamilton's on his last legs in the league as far as drug use goes. If he fails one of his bi weekly drug tests he's out of the league and the Angels won't be on the books for his salary. But that wouldn't be the case for alcohol, right? I think the Angels would be pretty scared about Hamilton's face showing up on TMZ in that city.
  19. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Dec 14, 2012 -> 03:08 PM) the situation isn't a joke, i'm blasting you idiots making this into some political argument with sarcasm. which you deserve. Your f***ing first, completely sickening, disgusting, you should be embarrased, reaction, was to make a joke.
  20. The difference is some people don't think it's a f***ing joke and you do.
  21. So that's who was in custody when that was reported earlier.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 14, 2012 -> 02:46 PM) But it obviously isn't the shooter if he is updating his facebook page. That appeared to be a different twitter account from the facebook page linked earlier.
  23. QUOTE (IowanSoxFan @ Dec 14, 2012 -> 02:43 PM) What? https://twitter.com/Fletch788/status/279668...0166528/photo/1 That's going to be the reaction of any person with the same name.
  24. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Dec 14, 2012 -> 02:31 PM) Shooter's mother worked at the school. Jesus, you just suddenly made me sit here and picture the middle school my mother worked in.
