QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 05:07 PM) At least Andy has a bit of a clue as to how an offense should be run, but yeah, none of these retreads does anything for me. I am ready to bring in someone innovative with fresh ideas. I'd like us to interview Chip Kelly...s***, I'd even consider talking to Josh McDaniels... Andy Reid though has legitimately tried to put O-linemen in there. Hasn't made the best decisions the last couple years, but they did try. They also had some serious O-lines for the better part of the last decade, IIRC. The thing that would have driven me nuts about him is the "Mike Martz" style forgetting about the run game.

Link. There might be people at this site who live in Cedar Lake, this is in Lake County IN, just south of Merrillville and East of Crown Point.

QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 04:56 PM) The only history is that when healthy, John Danks is a good to great pitcher I wouldn't say great.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 04:52 PM) No gun dealer is directly shooting kids either. It was a terrible comparison. Drugs kill something like 10X's as many people as firearms, and they are illegal. It was a horrible pick. Huh? Where on Earth are you getting that number? Are you counting worldwide somehow? 10x as many as firearms would, in this country require drugs to kill 300k or so per year. That'd be at the level of cancer. They're about the same level, 30-40k per year. In 2008 for example, there were ~36000 deaths from drugs, ~20k of which were cases involving drugs that were legal or available with a prescription.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 04:33 PM) Danks will throw less than 190 innings next year. Wow, way to go out on a limb there.

One of the details I'm finding to be somewhat interesting today is that it appears the mother of the shooter was one of those survivalist/doomsday prepper types. That's out from a couple sources now, this link is one of htem. That does explain why she'd have an assault-style rifle in the house.

QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 04:22 PM) Cutler-Marshall-Jeffery-(Forte) Briggs-(Peppers)-Tillman-Jennings-Melton Those are the guys that need to stay. The guys in parentheses I don't mind seeing go away, especially given salary. There's no way that Forte is at the point you can save anything by cutting him yet.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 04:19 PM) First, Tice did a terrible playcall with a minute left and you at your own 2. You still had a chance. It either was a terrible playcall or a terrible decision by Cutler just to dump off behind the 1st down marker. At that point, you either throw it away or throw it deeper. At least 20 yards. Next, Cutler screwed up big time. He held the ball, then held it again, then held it some more and took a sack. He didn't even drop back. He literally just got the ball and stood there and didn't even make an attempt at the play. Cutler looked at the WR's then, as far as I could tell, checked down. Honestly I wasn't mad about that one...it gave them more space where he could have dropped back and tried to throw it deep, even if it chewed up clock. The Jay Cutler dance routine was far more annoying.

QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 04:18 PM) I wonder how many backups we have to play before we realize what a terrible, terrible offense Jerry Angelo has constructed It basically starts from scratch next year....and that can include Emery deciding whether he can win with a QB who has spent several years as average-at-best.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 04:05 PM) If you don't have those calls go against Jeffery, his numbers would look pretty decent. We just didn't give him a chance. This always happens with the Bears. I can't think of a thing Jay could have done given his supporting crew + playcalling Jay Cutler has more excuses made for him than anyone else in the NFL. He's not a bad QB, but an elite QB goes into this game and doesn't leave you making excuses.

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 03:58 PM) He will make more money on the open market likely. No doubt in my mind he will get a head coaching job this offseason. The Bears will be happy to let that happen since that would save them a lot of money. But he won't get more money on the open market. He's one of the best-paid coaches in the league.

QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 03:57 PM) If I'm Lovie, I can't believe my livelihood is going to be changed by this f***ing referee crew He'll still get paid $5 million to sit at home next year.
-
Look at the bright side, Bears fans... You get a new coach/system next year.

Although the rate of these type of mass killings in this country is shooting upwards...the country as a whole is actually getting saver (strangely well correlated with getting lead out of children's brains, btw).

QUOTE (lord chas @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 03:44 PM) helmet to helmet? didnt think it was a late hit He led with his shoulder and had his head up. Basically, that's the "you can't hit Aaron Rodgers hard" rule.
-
QUOTE (dasox24 @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 03:43 PM) WHAT!!!??? He took no extra steps before hitting Rodgers. That's such a bulls*** call. I've said this one a few dozen times. A few penalties need to be reviewable. Late hits, personal fouls, pass interference.
-
QUOTE (RZZZA @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 11:49 AM) way too soon to be cutting anybody. We have an 8 man rotation and a bunch of injury prone guards so no need. And it would be premature after 1 good game from Teague any way. Heck, it's not like the Bulls have a full roster.
-
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 02:47 PM) With the value being acquired for starting pitching via trade, I really hope Quintana and/or Floyd are seriously being discussed with some teams. I guarantee you Floyd has been. Quintana...I just don't think anyone is going to give up what you'd ask for him after his performance last year.

QUOTE (The Critic @ Dec 15, 2012 -> 10:31 PM) That's how long I sat out, too. I don't know how long I'll skip the Hawks, but I can guarantee it'll be more than one season. How long did everyone last after the last one? -
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Dec 15, 2012 -> 04:09 PM) he has a point. we have "no fly" lists for people that match a terrorist profile. we need to have a similar program to combat these left wing extremists that keep going on these mass shootings. Since the initial video that made you start with yet another completely unfunny thing that you think was funny involved a person of the wrong name, I'll await your sincere apology for trying to be cute, whether you're being your usual troll self or not. Somehow, based on your posts yesterday, I won't hold my breath.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 15, 2012 -> 04:49 PM) Now it's confusing again. Was the "long rifle" a hunting rifle we don't know about, or was it the Bushmaster semi-automatic assault rifle? Because the cries to get assault guns off the streets definitely won't die down as a result of this. It's even scarier to think he was lining those kids up and executing them with a rifle....methodically. Just can't imagine it. So, for everyone asking, or everyone who has read the "He left the semi-auto assault rifle in the car" version, here is the official statement from the medical examiner. Based on the statements from the medical examiner doing the autopsies...the weapon he used was the semi-automatic assault-style rifle Bushmaster rifle. He therefore had other weapons with him, and perhaps used them on people that this medical examiner did not see, but that's pretty definitive. The assault-style-rifle was the weapon of choice.

Having a multipage facebook discussion with a buddy of mine on the Hobbit. He was disappointed, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

QUOTE (farmteam @ Dec 15, 2012 -> 05:06 PM) ATTN: Balta. Comment requested. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/space/9...id-impacts.html The spray thing sounds cool. We actually have a ton of ways to deflect an asteroid fairly cheaply if we see it more than a few weeks in advance. The ones mentioned in that article work just fine as long as you're talking about >10 years out. Happy to elaborate on the physics if htat's what you're asking. If you want to know the real problem...it's the surveying dollars. We've surveyed everything in the near-earth asteroid community down to about the kilometer size. If you can get down to 100 meters, then you're talking about most of the things that could threaten Tunguska-sized (level a city) impacts, but we don't have the telescopes that can find all of those, and the money to do that kind of survey just isn't there. There are still other undetected threats; we can't rule out comets either, because some of those are on orbits we can't see easily...but again, it's more a question of money than anything. Finding small, non-bright objects is very expensive, and the country/world has other priorities.

Did people really talk about IU as a juggernaut? Seriously? Anyone who thought that team would go wire to wire/undefeated is nuts. -
