  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 04:37 PM) Well, then, I guess it's now time to remove any statistics of anyone ever busted for roids. Great. Does Giambi count? I want Frank to get his 3rd MVP.
  2. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 04:13 PM) Ostracizing and othering a child is a pretty big inconvenience. Asking parents to come up with alternatives to PB&J is not. I'm picturing the poor kid crying alone because every time food comes out he has to go into isolation. It makes me sad.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 03:59 PM) George McGovern hates you. "I knew George McGovern. George McGovern was a friend of mine. You sir are no George McGovern".
  4. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 03:56 PM) It really is. I didn't even glance at the Rules of the Road book and I got 100% on it. Most of the time the answer is obvious. I remember one that was something like: When you approach an intersection with pedestrians in the crosswalk you should: A) slow down until they are safely across B) speed up C) flash your lights and honk your horn. The option that got me was something about verbally signaling them to cross (which you're actually not supposed to do for some reason).
  5. Well, if nothing else, this new maps software gives me a reason to consider the GS3 as my next phone (or the GS4 come February).
  6. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 03:31 PM) I was wondering if these schools would take the ban away after the student has left the school or if the next school the student went to would implement the ban. In our district they don't stay in any one school longer than 3 years unless they fail a grade. 6 years at the same elementary school, 3 years at the same middle school, 4 years at the same high school for me.
  7. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 03:17 PM) Romney being a candidate IS the failed strategy. Yea, if only Herman Cain/Rick Santorum/Newt Gingrich/Rick Perry were the nominee...things would be....
  8. OMG! A local school administrator slightly overreacted! Bring out the cannon! Sacrifice 3 kids with peanut allergies!
  9. The Apple map fails now have their own tumblr.
  10. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 01:57 PM) Again, where do we draw the line? The horror is that you, nor anyone else, has answered this question, despite my posting of scientific fact that OTHER foods also cause anaphylaxis... including DAIRY products. But don't let facts get in the way of your opportunistic anti peanut butter campaign. Many foods can trigger anaphylaxis; this may occur upon the first known ingestion. Common triggering foods vary around the world. In Western cultures, ingestion of or exposure to peanuts, wheat, tree nuts, shellfish, fish, milk, and eggs are the most prevalent causes. Better ban all of them if you need to ban one of them. In the event that you actually have a possibly lethal milk allergy in your school, you should take steps to prevent exposure to that product. A big question winds up being the level of exposure...if getting it on skin can be lethal, then you have to find a way to keep the kid away from that product. Shellfish...well I don't know what school you went to that can afford that. One thing worth noting though is that nut allergies are 5x more common than any of the other ones youve referred to, so in the large majority of cases that's going to be the one you have to worry about.
  11. I had to take a written test at 26 but that was California.
  12. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 01:46 PM) Tax credits as a "social program" is bulls***. You're actively doing something for the benefit of society (owning a home, having a kid, etc) to get those credits. Great, so the standard we get to use now to justify spending is whether or not it does something for the benefit of society? I'm game! Sign me up!
  13. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 01:26 PM) Simply having notice of something isn't enough. Bringing a lion to school has a high probability of harm. That's foreseeable. Knowing a kid has a nut allergy and allowing him in a large lunch room with other kids eating nuts, what are the odds he gets sick/dies? I've never heard of it. I'm not sure it's ever happened before. It's gotta be incredibly rare. That's totally unforeseeable (not to mention the lack of proximate cause - condition, not a cause argument - might be at play). What you're suggesting is the school acted willfully and wantonly so long as they're on notice that a kid has an allergy. In a school full of 1000 kids, are you really going to require the school to know the severity of allergies for every single kid and protect them accordingly. That's an "intolerable" requirement, especially for an immune entity. Your schools don't have access to your medical records? Mine always did. If a person has a severe enough allergy whereby contact with a particular product would be life threatening, and its been diagnosed, I'd expect a school to know that, and if its a real issue you deal with it.
  14. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 12:14 PM) I'm gonna guess that the administrators' actions might actually be driven by a desire to create a safe learning environment for the student. It's impossible to have a safe learning environment for the other students if they don't have peanuts.
  15. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 01:42 PM) It's very easy, just like how Democrats have percentages they want certain ethnic groups to vote for them. Are the Democrats anti-White racists? if they oppose our fair and just efforts to help poor working class white people, then we will just call the Democrats racist. 65% is within reach! I can't stand white people.
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 12:35 PM) That movie is so underrated - better than The Avengers. agree with the first part, disagree with the 2nd.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 10:26 AM) I'll bet more people died of that this year than accidental peanut buttering... Peanut allergies kill ~150 per year. Drowning kills about 3500 per year. So yes, you are correct. I propose peanut lifeguards in all cafeterias. Obviously you can't deny people the important, first amendment given right to peanut butter, but 150 deaths per year is a lot.
  18. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 10:11 AM) Texas Patriot Lynches Chair! I just always thought Kap lived closer to Dallas, not Austin.
  19. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 09:51 AM) Same bottles used for alternative drink choices, so it's not like it matters in the grand scheme of things. Really? I turn my tap on and very little plastic comes out.l
  20. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 09:45 AM) In that frame, of course its not "both sides", since you've limited the "historical data" to one iteration of congress. As I stated, factually, Democrats also used to filibuster...just not to this insane extent, but the writing was on the wall when they started doing it years ago...the republican congress simply took it to the next level. The only problem I'm goign to have with this statement is the term "Started"...because going all the way back to the 1960's, every time there's been a major jump in the incidence of cloture votes compared to the previous congress, it's been the Republicans in the minority. Yes, the Democrats use it too...but "started" really isnt' the accurate term.
  21. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 09:48 AM) No, the bad part comes from the loss of tax revenue BECAUSE people cannot afford to smoke. Now they'll tax something else...maybe something that's actually good for you...like bottled water. Oh, wait...already doing that, too! It never ends... (Bottled water isn't good for you. At least not when you consider the existence of "The bottle").
  22. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 09:47 AM) Not quite how it works, but good try. It's always different.
  23. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 09:39 AM) I wonder if the Sox could get Chase Headley in the offseason and how much he would cost. The Padres haven't moved him yet despite plenty of offers, so the price is quite high.
  24. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 20, 2012 -> 01:16 PM) Agreed. It's really gonna be interesting to see how many do so when the multi-year penalties kick in. If the Lakers keep all their expensive guys and extend Howard, it's not unreasonable that they could have a $100 million luxury tax bill next year.
