  1. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 18, 2012 -> 11:41 AM) Balta, If your referring to accredited investors, etc, those rules are in theory to protect the little guy from bad investments and scams. Nothing is perfect. OTOH, Facebook made use of a technique arranged by Goldman Sachs to include far more than the legal 500 investors before it ever became publicly available. And a great many insiders got to buy in early through those kind of connections.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 18, 2012 -> 09:57 AM) Meet Operation twist and QE1 and Qe2. There was a great scene where the head of PIMCO, one of those legitimately famous investors, publicly took Krugman to task while QE2 was going on, publicly predicted a big spike in interest rates after QE2 ended, put a whole lot of money on the line from his investment firm on those statements. He lost billions believing what you just said. (While we're at it, so did JPM).
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 18, 2012 -> 10:59 AM) Apparently Bono is an investor and will make more off of the IPO than he did off his entire career with U2. A great example of how completely f***ed up and unfair this entire process is. If you're already a millionaire, you can use connections with investment banks to sneak around the rules, get in before everyone else can.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 17, 2012 -> 09:44 PM) With Houston moving to the AL next season, there will be an interleague series constantly going on. I still think there is plenty of strategy with the DH and I think watching pitchers go up to the plate to strikeout is silly. NL, adopt the DH. The crosstown classic may be a yawn to you, but its still pretty popular with the majority of fans. How can you not get teary eyed when Paulie hoists the BP Cup? The dispersants have destroyed my tear ducts.
  5. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 17, 2012 -> 09:42 PM) Its a shame Bosh is out, because I think if the Pacers play that well they can beat Miami any night. They have good athletes to guard Lebron/Wade and they are just forcing Miami to shoot jumpers. I cant believe people b**** about Lebron, hes keeping that team together. Wade is way to mercurial, and Spoelstra does nothing. Maybe one day hell realize he should have come to Chicago. Any way they lose is fine by me. It's not exactly like I'd look at this season and say its unfair if te Heat lose because of an injury.
  6. US Commerce Dept. hits China with large tariffs on solar panels in response to dumping of below-price solar panels.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 17, 2012 -> 09:12 PM) I saw something today that said at least 2 weeks. They miss him because he's a HOF flopper. That one with Boozer last year may be the all time best That injury is a minimum 2 week injury, 4 weeks certainly possible, depending on if he pushes it back before he's 100%. Could legitimately cost the whole season.
  8. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 17, 2012 -> 08:27 PM) There's nothing saying we can't move him for another hitter...there's nothing saying we can't move him for SP which allows us to move another P for a hitter. People need to stop thinking about our assets in such a limited fashion. The goal if you want it to be, can often times be about maximizing the value of your assets...if that means trading one of them while it is at peak value, then so be it. If the Sox were to "Win" both of those deals, to get back more than they sent out, that'd be great. But that's very rarely been our M.O. We've been overpaying to fill positions of need.
  9. I'm going to use the Kos post as a link aggregator for this one.
  10. QUOTE (59th street @ May 17, 2012 -> 05:40 PM) Yes except when the NL plays in an AL park they decide to throw all that tradition and history out the window and they opt to use a DH (but there is no real advantage they must just do it to be polite). Did someone actually argue there was no advantage to using it? I didn't.
  11. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 17, 2012 -> 05:39 PM) Pretty much what Stoney said, but in jest. He said one way to limit hurting your arm with a slider is to just not throw any more sliders. Seriously, it's what Seattle did with King Felix, just had him not throw the slider his first year or two. If that pitch is extra stress...strengthen and adapt the arm first this year then turn him loose once the soreness has passed.
  12. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 17, 2012 -> 05:33 PM) I honestly don't recall a single slurve he has thrown today. Seems to be all fastballs and change-ups. You know what? If his arm isn't conditioned for the slider right now, then don't throw it. Get the arm used to throwing 7 inning games first.
  13. QUOTE (KG#1 @ May 17, 2012 -> 05:01 PM) Sweet! Thanks for the updates guys Gameday looks to be back up now. I've never seen Gameday record pitches but lose information on what they were. Weird.
  14. Can someone please do PBP from the last pitch in Dunn's at bat on?
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 17, 2012 -> 04:55 PM) So by your definition giving someone a ticket for jaywalking is illegal, because that is exactly what is happening. So would a parking ticket. If Jaywalking laws effectively outlaw gatherings for protest, that would verge on making them unconstitutional.
  16. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 17, 2012 -> 04:52 PM) Because it's the law. Only people who don't matter, like protestors, need to follow laws.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 17, 2012 -> 04:50 PM) And why do you need a warning if you are doing something illegal before you get arrested? Because relatively minor offenses like "having a protest go into the wrong area" shouldn't necessarily be met with mass arrests?
  18. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ May 17, 2012 -> 04:48 PM) Wilson with some control issues. I'd rather face Beckham than De Aza if I had to choose after the pitching coach came out, even if it's a lefty on the mound.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 17, 2012 -> 04:45 PM) The idea that you need to be warned to quit blocking traffic is just stupid. Like you don't know that is not allowed? Please. What do you do if the police direct you in to blocking traffic? That's what SS just alleged, and pretty much exactly what happened on the Brooklyn Bridge (I don't know about the LSD case).
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ May 17, 2012 -> 04:38 PM) It happens...as of now, it doesn't look like he's going to be fixed in a Sox jersey. They've given him every chance to succeed, and he hasn't yet. Hopefully this is a mute point come the end of the year and he's a fixture in the Sox organization. autocorrect?
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ May 17, 2012 -> 04:36 PM) I've absolutely been thinking that, and I'd be all for it. Only issue is Pirates have Walker at 2nd base. Beckham can go back to 3b!
  22. Vilma files defamation suit against Goodell.
  23. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 17, 2012 -> 04:28 PM) Absolutely not, that's my point. There's a redress if cops do something WRONG. And there's a clear redress if protestors do something wrong. The next question is whether or not it winds up applied fairly. Of course, I'd argue that it doesn't. That's how you can have the Police decide to destroy a protest in Oakland and have no one charged.
  24. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 17, 2012 -> 04:24 PM) You've provided one example where the authority of the cops is at issue. In Chicago there will be no such discrepancy. These groups had to apply for, and receive, permits with specific times/locations/limitations on how/when/where they can protest. If they go beyond those limitations, the authority of the cops is 100% clear. When the Chicago PD starts beating the s*** out of protesters walking down a planned route, i'll change my position on this. Wouldn't be the first time
  25. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 17, 2012 -> 04:23 PM) Is that wrong? Is it wrong that people inappropriately/illegally assaulted by police have a right to seek redress through the courts?
