QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 15, 2012 -> 06:02 PM) What are the chances he continues to hit at 32? If he doesn't get hurt, I'd say they're very good. Guys don't drop off when they hit 32, they may slowly start to tail downwards after that age, but there's no brick wall, and there's plenty of hitters who learn more as they go on and keep getting better. His speed may be weakening by 32 and pushing him towards a corner OF spot, but the kid is flat out hitting, and that doesn't just vanish outside of big contract guys who shift to the AL.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 15, 2012 -> 06:00 PM) Your reply was "Captain Obvious". If he continues to hit he'll be on the team when he's 32. Then why does his age have anything to do with anything?
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 15, 2012 -> 05:55 PM) And if he doesn't continue to hit? Then thankfully it doesn't cost us anything to remove him. What kind of silly statement is that?

For reference, I don't want to see Fukudome here, but this is a big challenge for the Tank.

Why not.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 15, 2012 -> 05:44 PM) I wonder if the Bulls would be better in the long run if they punted on 2013? Let Deng play the olympics then go for surgery, amnesty Boozer, trade Jo to the highest bidder, and let the option guys go. Then when you come back for 2013 you get a healthy Rose and Deng, plus a high draft pick, and the kid from Europe potentially as well. There really isn't anything gained by amnesthitizing Boozer. The rest, it's at least intriguing.

QUOTE (knightni @ May 15, 2012 -> 05:43 PM) The Spurs had David Robinson get really injured and miss an entire season. They got a lottery pick that ended up being Tim Duncan. It worked out pretty well for them. If the Bulls are going to just wind up and shoot for the Lottery, then they may as well try to move the other 3 guys for someone's contract or maybe try to pick up another draft pick. Especially if you count on Deng missing 2 months for post olympics wrist surgery.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 15, 2012 -> 05:19 PM) Thats about right. Maybe the Bulls will make next season a sort of transition year? Next year is a terrible "Transition" year. It's the last year they have a number of guys (Korver, Watson, Brewer) under team control and Gibson would be an RFA after the year. Clearing those guys out might be useful...but the Bulls will not have the cap space to bring someone back if they were removed, so they'd have to be treated as expiring contracts, and that would leave the Bulls back to having a depleted, weak bench. That said, I'm not sure they have much choice.

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ May 15, 2012 -> 05:23 PM) I don't remember MJ's performance ever backsliding much when he was winning his multiple titles and MVPs; certainly not to the degree Kaner's over the last two seasons. That's the real issue though isn't it...no one would care about Kane "embarrassing the team" off the ice if he was consistently improving and had become one of the best players in the league.

I think I tried to argue last year that we seriously need to stop trusting nuclear engineers as well.

Rose's surgeon puts recovery time at 8-12 months, thus somewhere between January and basically missing the whole 2012-2013 season.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 15, 2012 -> 05:13 PM) Rios is a better CF'er than De Aza and I like Dave Dombrowski. So your answer is no, you didn't watch Rios play CF, or baseball at all, last year. Thanks for clearing that up.

QUOTE (Jake @ May 15, 2012 -> 04:25 PM) This is what we get for using up Stewart yesterday If you've got multiple righties in your pen and Jackson up, you've got to use the righty there instead of Ohman. Either Reed or Jones or Crain, take your pick.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ May 15, 2012 -> 04:23 PM) put him in a very tough spot there Well, he put himself in that spot by hitting the lefty, but this is why you don't have a LOOGY face righties in close games.
-
Well, that was impressive.

Scout: Jake Peavy may be running out of gas after 88 pitches, his fastball has dropped from a high of 93 to as low as 85. 3 pitches later: Jake Peavy has thrown 91 pitches but has plenty left in the tank, with his fastball sitting at 89 over the last 10 pitches.

Horrible practice is the long way of saying AT&T.

QUOTE (TitoMB @ May 15, 2012 -> 03:53 PM) So 21 of Dunn's 32 hits have been for extra bases. How long did it take him last year to get to even 10? Adam Dunn hit his 10th extra base hit last year on May 9.

QUOTE (chw42 @ May 15, 2012 -> 03:42 PM) We need to go up by like 5-6 for me to feel safe with this bullpen. Nobody is trustworthy unless his name is Reed. And it's not the Royals?
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 15, 2012 -> 03:35 PM) Rios was much worse out there. Rios in 2010 was actually an improvement out there, but Rios in 2011 was not, and Rios's bat has somewhat recovered while playing in RF as well. This would be one of those "you'd be nuts to mess with it after how badly things screwed up last time" scenarios.

Bravo.

ChiSox are actually 3rd in the AL in steals, but hav estill pulled off a 71% clip. In 2011 we were 13th in the AL in steals and were stealing at a 60% clip (worst in the league).

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 15, 2012 -> 02:25 PM) And you want Josh Hamilton, Kemp, Granderson, Austin Jackson, Adam Jones, McCutchen, Jay or Michael Bourn? And which one of those CFers are realistically available to the White Sox? Well, Josh Hamilton is a free agent after this year...

QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 15, 2012 -> 02:20 PM) It's clear that you are ok with him in CF. I am not. I can live with De Aza's mistakes in CF and hope they will decrease with time and experience in the ballpark. He has the tools to grow into an average CF there, and he's flat out continuing to hit. If he's going to cost us a game or two with a misplay, I'd rather have it be this year than next year, and if he doesn't improve...he's hitting well enough to offset those mistakes.
-
Great. You've gotten us back to 78 wins...which is where I predicted we'd be at the start of the year.
