QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 14, 2012 -> 11:57 AM) Which isn't that different than Viciedo in LF. Honestly, I expected Viciedo to be a lot worse out there than he has been so far.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 14, 2012 -> 11:47 AM) Is RF better for Dunn since that is where he last played the OF? If that is where he may have some comfort level move Rios to LF for the series. We need Dunn's bat and can always remove him late for defensive purposes It's going to be a disaster anywhere you play him, you jsut hope that he doesn't have too many balls come his way over the 4-5 games you put him out there over the season, because there's going to be an error or two at the least.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 14, 2012 -> 10:28 AM) The inside of solidier field is pretty damn nice except for the lack of bathrooms. Their major error was putting so few seats in the stands. It was physically impossible to put in enough seats, put in enough luxury boxes, maintain the old stadium facade, and make sure the seats had good sight lines. Simply couldn't do all of them. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 14, 2012 -> 10:06 AM) Wait, he is injured? Not anything I know about, but when a guy gets shelled by the Royals, people who didn't see the game might suspect there could be.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ May 14, 2012 -> 10:03 AM) Didn't catch the game yesterday, Adisson's meltdown anything we should worry about? In terms of injury or in terms of getting shelled by the Royals?

Matt Kemp hurt a hamstring last weekend and apparently re-pulled it yesterday, came out of the game and is slated for an MRI today.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 14, 2012 -> 09:14 AM) Guys, it's not happening. Two straight 0-fors following this post, OPS at a solid .600 even. He did, however, still put together some decent at bats yesterday, he just lined out to the RF a coupel times.

Viciedo, OTOH, really did have a fracture when his hand was HBP last year and it bugged him at least all of last season.

You have to understand...they're better than you or I. They were born into the right family. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 14, 2012 -> 08:44 AM) Heads are starting to role at JPM. Is it necessary to allow this specific type of trading to have functional overnight credit markets? Could you still have a functional system with a stronger Volcker rule in place? No. Yes.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 13, 2012 -> 08:19 PM) All I'm saying is that Stewart had something like a 7.88 ERA against all MLB teams not named the Twins at the conclusion of 2011. Why would you trust the same guy who recommended both Stewart and Frasor (and Frasor pitched about as "averagely" as possible, about like David Riske when we had him)...wouldn't you get a second opinion? If we plugged in Reddick into our outfield (dealing Santos to the Red Sox instead) and had the luxury of sending Viciedo down right now, we'd be in first place and have the depth to move Dunn eventually and maybe even get something decent in return. I'll agree with Marty on one point. How likely is it that we compete in 2013 or 2014 when you're going to be in process of "on the job training" for 2-3 starters at the same time, and nobody knows for sure how long Sale's elbow will hold out? How many other pitchers could come up midseason after skipping AAA entirely? If you plugged Reddick into the OF before he'd ever done a stint at AAA, what do you think he'd have done? Oh wait, I can check that...he went 20 for his first 121 when called up from his first stint in AA and AAA, then wound up repeating AAA a couple times.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 13, 2012 -> 08:10 PM) After all, the evidence from the Frasor/Stewart deal was far from being in favor of the Sox You wanted Teahen's contract this badly?

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ May 13, 2012 -> 07:16 PM) Same problems for the Pacers as last year, can't close out teams without a legit go to guy. I'm seeing that Bosh might be out for a while according to Hollinger, that could be a death blow to the Heat's chances...it would be 2 v 5 and the Indy bigs will maul the Heat's already suck ass FC. I think the Heat can still take the Pacers without Bosh, and I'd guess the Celtics too. The Thunder or Lakers could be trouble.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 13, 2012 -> 05:32 PM) And that means what? Just like Rios in 2011, DeAza has been pretty bad overall in CF defensively. He has better range and closing/make-up speed than Rios, but he's been far from an average MLB CFer to the "eye test." With De Aza though, this is the first time he's played in any of these ballparks. He's effectively a rookie even if he's an old rookie. We're playing 2 rookie OF's. Some mistakes are to be expected. They need to improve long term, and hopefully they will. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 13, 2012 -> 05:16 PM) Except AJ's regressing to his mean, and can we really expect DeAza to consistently put up 825-900 OPS numbers? It all depends on Beckham, Viciedo and Ramirez, because Morel's back issues are probably going to keep him from developing any degree of consistency offensively...assuming he stays on the major league roster. AJ right now is right where he should be, mid - .700's OPS, which is what you expect from him over a full season. De Aza is not putting up .825-.900 OPS numbers, he's putting up an .800 OPS, which is exactly what I was predicting/hoping he'd do coming in to this season. The only 2 guys who really are "overperforming" in this lineup are Dunn and Konerko, and both of them only slightly. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 13, 2012 -> 05:15 PM) They were 8th in average, 7th in OPS and 11 th in the AL in runs last year. Looks like they are about where they should be. Hey, if we can trade away an all star, cut back $25 million in salary, and still wind up performing at the same level, that's actually not a bad place to be. That means we got the same level of performance while saving money, so if we add in money to fill holes, then we could be back in a place where competing is possible. -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 13, 2012 -> 05:02 PM) Sox have had quite a few of those so far this year (Dunn, Rios, PK, AJP). It's time for Ramirez/Viciedo to carry us for a week. Dunn, Konerko, and AJ are sitting there with OPS's very close to their career numbers. Rios is sitting at .733 which is respectable but ideally .800-ish is good for him. Then, we have 4 guys in our lineup at about .600 or below. And our bench has effectively given us nothing. So, again, we've got a couple guys performing slightly above their career trend, then 1/2 our lineup performing poorly enough that you'd expect them to have to improve just by regression. So it's very true...whatever inexcusable stat you want to point to, it's truly inexcusable...but yet, we're still sitting just slightly below average in the AL in offense. -
QUOTE (DirtySox @ May 13, 2012 -> 04:58 PM) Birmingham was resuming a suspended game. Gracias.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 13, 2012 -> 04:55 PM) League average is 4.32, and Sox are averaging 3.94 this year. You know my belief is this team needs significantly more power production. Getting 1 homer combined from your RF and 3B is ridiculous for mid-May. Sox are 9th in the AL in offense right now, 9th with RISP, and were right behind the dominant offense of the Detroit Tigers in 8th. And Cleveland in 7th. Yes, you can pick your certain bad things. Yes, when you compare us to the Rangers, our offense is in rough shape. However, this is no longer the steroid era. We need a hot streak from 1 or 2 guys and we will be sitting there as an average offense. Every single team outside of Texas has "ridiculously poor production" from a couple positions right now. -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 13, 2012 -> 04:51 PM) Or the talent? At some point it might help to recalibrate people to the league no longer being steroid-loaded too, where they expect every game to have 17 runs. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 13, 2012 -> 04:18 PM) I'm out after that play by Escobar. If Sox don't rally to win this game, they've proven again they can't get up for the s*** of the Central Division. Losing 2 of 3 would be bad. You're not out, that'd make you 19x in, because you'd get to gloat, and that's what you're waiting for.
