At least I get a couple innings where people stop trying to release Viciedo and Stewart.

Wow, what a low scoring game.

Nice catch alejandro

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 14, 2012 -> 08:16 PM) Prince is 0 for his last 22... Your fault.

Not a good opening for Danks.

MLB has, under their rights in the CBA, fired the arbitrator from the Braun case.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 14, 2012 -> 06:04 PM) He should be in LF. He would be a plus defender out there, but then everyone else in the OF would have to be shifted again. He hasn't been as bad as the couple big mistake plays he's made in CF would suggest, he's shown good range out there, and frnakly, he's still effectively a rookie out there, so he does have room to grow into that position.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 14, 2012 -> 05:58 PM) I doubt the trade deadline will be very lucrative for teams selling. Why? The extra Wild Card should have increased demand for players by giving more teams legit hope of a playoff spot, and that's the biggest change this year. There should be even fewer teams in a sellers position.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 14, 2012 -> 05:52 PM) Edwin Jackson was making a decent amount of money last year. The Cards I believe took on somewhere just under $4 million in payroll when they added Dotel and Jackson in late July.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 14, 2012 -> 05:45 PM) Tim Beckham was also busted for using a "drug of abuse" this year, which was his second violation and has him sitting for a while. That means something other than a PED right? So he's a #1 draft pick of the Rays who is struggling because of a drug problem? For God's sake, grab this guy if he's ever available in the rule 5 and make him hang out with Floyd or Humber or someone like that. -
A worthy read is this New Yorker level description of how the Citizens United decision went down. Pay particular attention to the fact that it was the supposed centrist, Justice Kennedy, who really helped Roberts push things as far as they got, and in fact wanted to overturn even more campaign finance law than w

QUOTE (fathom @ May 14, 2012 -> 05:11 PM) If Carpenter returns, Cards are 6 deep in the starting rotation. As for the Brewers, I cannot see them sticking around in contention for a playoff bid with all the injuries they've had. I think Red Sox, Yankees and Blue Jays would be best fit for Peavy, with the Sox taking on a lot of his remaining contract in order to get a better prospect. I don't think the Sox can trade him and get another team to pick up all of his remaining salary for this year/$4 million option decline. Obligatory "The White Sox rarely if ever take on most of someone's remaining money in exchange for a better prospect" reply.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 14, 2012 -> 04:45 PM) I excluded the Tigers because the Sox haven't dealt with them since they traded Kenny Williams there in 1989. I don't see the Brewers as having the guns to pull off a deal like that, and the Cards don't usually add salaried pitchers like that either. Cards are actually starting this year at a payroll $5 million above where they were last year (and who knows if part of Wainright's deal was insured).

QUOTE (farmteam @ May 14, 2012 -> 04:43 PM) General Bank Account Question: So I moved to Minneapolis last August, but never opened a new bank account up here because I liked my Chase account (there are no Chase branches up here), and since my only "income" right now is student loans, I don't really have too much money to put into an account. Anyway, I need to open one up here now because it's (predictably) getting to be a hassle. But, my dad claims that I shouldn't close my current account (which I've had since I started college in 2007), because it would adversely affect my credit score to not have an account that's been open for a while. I've never heard this about bank accounts -- is it true? Ideally, I'd like to completely close my Chase ones (checking and savings, though I have a credit card through them too so I'm not sure how that will work) and open new stuff up here. Closing your longest-lived Credit card isn't a good move in terms of credit score if you don't have a long history. Closing the bank accounts is usually fine. It shouldn't be impossible to close the checking and savings account while keeping the credit card open, but they're a big bank so they won't make it easy on you.

It would be quite nice, especially now, if the Celtics could polish off the 6ers quickly while the Pacers try to beat the Heat up further.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 14, 2012 -> 04:20 PM) AS much as I respect and love the old soldier field, they should have leveled it and built an entirely new state of the art stadium with a retractable roof and seating for at least 100k. I could actually still live without a roof in Chicago. Yeah it's miserably cold. But that's Chicago. Put a 100k seating stadium out there and the people will keep themselves warm. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 14, 2012 -> 03:51 PM) I don't think so. Dude is pitching amazing. If I were a team in contention, he's the type of guy that puts you over the top. His arm may fall off but given his collective work through the 1st 6 weeks of the season, a contender would be foolish not to take a chance (especially since even a small market team could potentially due it since you don't tie yourself to a long-term deal). Still >$10 million for 2 months.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 14, 2012 -> 03:35 PM) Oh I am sure it would make some angry. Maybe we could sign Rich Daley on a one day contract to come bulldoze it, for old times sake. Suddenly I'm picturing Daley fighting alongside the Avengers and being the one Hulk punches out. It's funny. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 14, 2012 -> 03:20 PM) On the bright side they could bulldoze it now without a worry. Are you sure that won't make the aliens whose ship that is angry? -
Given the long discussion about how obviously Democrat SuperPAC money must rival Republican SuperPAC money in the other thread, it's certainly interesting to see Wisconsin Democrats coming out and publicly begging for more help from the national level, and saying that they can still win if they're only outspent 5 to 1 rather than 20 to 1.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 14, 2012 -> 01:42 PM) Maybe true, but they definitely lost a chance to gain more revenue there. They obviously preferred luxury boxes instead of seats, but the Bears could easily draw 120k every sunday. I totally agree...but that would have required the Bears giving up "Being at Soldier Field", which they weren't willing to do (and which, seemingly, we both agree was a mistake).
