Tebow performed a very solid defensive stand on that possession.

Another White Sox / Blue Jays trade on the horizon?
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 06:09 PM) Dr. J would be a better example, or Charles Barkley. Malone and Stockton. George Gervin. Alex English, etc. David Robinson, without Tim Duncan/Parker. I would say Malone was a very very good All-Star caliber center, but not one of the true superstars of the game. I guess it can be argued both ways. Karl Malone was a power forward.

Should the Sox consider Dunn for Soriano?
You didn't answer my question. I asked about Dunn and Soriano being able to play a decent LF. I'd call the chances of that happening basically 0%. Rios at least has some chance of htiting next year. Soriano will NOT play a decent LF. Adam Dunn will also...NOT play an adequate LF.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 05:59 PM) The main problem there is we're not sure if DeAza 1) is an everyday player and 2) how well he can play CF for 150+ games. Of course, we have Lillibridge to back him up, but most would prefer to deal Soriano for Rios and stick DeAza in CF with Soriano/Dunn in LF. What's more likely...Soriano + Dunn playing a decent LF or Rios having a good year with the bats next year?

On a sidenote, the Bears are your 2nd team correct? I know you are a big Bills fans. Yeah, and given the fact that the Bills have been, uh, terrible since Wade Phillips screwed Doug Flutie I've wound up paying as much/more attention to the Bears by default.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 03:52 PM) I think Paul is surprisingly still in the game given the score. This is the same ethos they showed in going all-in to try to deny the Patriots win 16. They're trying to devour their opponent completely. And now that defense is leaving on a 4th down sack.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 03:39 PM) A few weeks ago I said that the Giants were a team that could give the Packers trouble. Balta, I think 2 firsts, 2 seconds and 2 thirds could sway me to deal Luck. Regardless Im not advocating giving Luck away, more saying that it seems you can really rip some one off, and thats when you take advantage. If that kind of offer is on the table for Luck...that has to at least be very, very tempting for the Colts. Personally, I'd be a heckuva lot more likely to give that offer up for Manning than for Luck, but then again I'm not running a team.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 03:30 PM) Doesnt passing a physical mean that Manning is completely healthy? And if Manning is healthy, the Colts can be contenders pretty quickly. (edit) Let me clarify, even if Manning is dealt, I still think that the Colts should strongly consider trading down. I just always prefer multiple first round picks. If Manning is Healthy, I don't think the Colts can be contenders with this roster, if they lose a substantial fraction of their 5 big FA's I listed earlier. And with Manning being a $20 million cap hit, I don't see how they can substantially improve their roster through free agency. They need an infusion of talent. There is no way around it. One way to do it is to trade Luck...but that has to be one heckuva deal to do so. The kind of deal I wouldn't give up for a rookie QB. If a team meets that price, yes, you trade that pick, but it needs to be the "3 first round picks" that people are talking about.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 03:25 PM) Balta, If Manning is 100% the Colts can become contenders quickly. And that is the point, the only way they can trade Manning for a fortune is if Manning is deemed completely healthy. Otherwise youd have to deal him for cents on the dollar and in a rebuild the quickest way to get back to being good is trading for multiple first round picks, which trading the #1 overall would accomplish. You wouldn't trade for Manning if you were the Jets, for example, based solely on him passing a physical in 2 months? I sure as **** would.

Official 2011-2012 NFL Thread
In terms of keeping Manning, the decision should actually be pretty simple. It's this question: If you keep Peyton Manning, can you win a Super Bowl with the team around him? If the cap situation is so bad that they lose most of that list of FA's this year, and they have no money to replace them, then the only way they can put a legit winner around Manning is the draft, and if they're drafting Luck, then effectively they start getting players to help Manning at pick 32. Especially with the Colts being another year older, if they lose 3 or 4 of those guys, I can't believe they can field a Super Bowl quality team around Manning while drafting Luck. That would mean wasting the last couple productive years of Peyton Manning's career on him being a tutor. That's a horrible waste of everything. Sign Jeff Garcia if you need a veteran tutor. Or just hire a decent QB coach. If the Colts can not only keep those guys, but also add to their roster, then they might still have a shot at winning with Manning. In that case, it could make sense to hold onto Luck for a year or two, because they're still gunning for the Super Bowl with Manning. They're not holding onto him only to be a tutor, they're trying to win. I don't think they have the cap room to pull this off, but I'm not running the team.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 02:43 PM) 65-75%...but not 80-90% Someone would do that...a bit similar to the Jim Thome situation. If Adam Dunn had last season because of an injury, and he missed 2/3 of the year, and he had a reasonable shot at recovering from the injury, that would be one thing. Jim Thome didn't just stop hitting for no obvious reason. Jim Thome might have been done, but there was plenty of reason to believe this guy's down season was due to injury and he could come back from that injury. No one has a clue what happened to Adam Dunn last year. It's basically unprecedented. No one would gamble on him coming back without knowing what in the world that was.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 02:26 PM) Why do you say Rodgers was no where near Luck? Rodgers had QB rating of 154 and 66% pct completion, Luck had a QB rating of 160.7 with a 70% completion rating. Statistically Luck isnt even the best QB in this draft, that would be RG III or Russel Wilson, who both sport better QB ratings (both broke the all time NCAA record, Wilson with rating of 191.2 and RG III with 189.5). GMAB man... ANdrew Luck is getting comparisons to John Elway coming out of college. Aaron Rodgers was considered an iffy option as the #1 pick, and then absolutely plummeted afterwards until he wound up in a good situation.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 02:06 PM) Point worth noting. Just because Manning gets a $28 million payment next year, it doesn't mean his cap hit is $28 million for 2012. You're right, it's closer to $20 million than $28, that roster bonus is spread out, but it's still huge, and that team already is sitting on huge contracts. Whatever the math is...what's the point of keeping Manning if you lose Wayne, Saturday, and Mathis, and basically have your first round pick sitting on the bench not helping Manning win anything?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 01:34 PM) Agreed. Perfect example would be to look at the Rodgers/Favre situation. Aaron Rodgers was no where near the point Luck was at when he was drafted. Secondly, the cap numbers are slightly different. Favre's cap number in 07, for example, was $11.8 million, and Rodgers' was $1.5 million. Peyton Manning's is what, $28 million next year, and Luck will probably be another $5 million on top of that? And add to that, the list of Colts Free Agents this year...Robert Mathis, Reggie Wayne, Jeff Saturday, Pierre Garcon, Ryan Diem. They might be able to afford to lose 1-2 of those guys, but if you're locking up $33 million in the QB spot, another $15 million in Freeney, a big amount in Clark...there's no money to put anyone around Manning. There's no money to keep these guys.
