  1. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 01:51 PM) after watching that debate, what is it about Ron Paul that you LIKE? the other candidates are right - he lies constantly, makes s*** up, and is just a senile old man... I don't think this part is fair and frankly I find it borderline offensive.
  2. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 01:43 PM) Definitely not true. He wasn't drafted because he loves Jesus. He was drafted because some coach sold a franchise on the idea that he could do something at the QB position that other guys couldn't. So far he's been proven right. And you don't think that "Having an incredibly devoted fanbase who won't stop asking about him and who makes it incredibly profitable to give him a chance" plays into that?
  3. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 01:37 PM) Does Ron Paul have any real chance of winning the nomination? He's the only candidate (besides probably Huntsman) on either side that I'd vote for. Zero chance. If there was a legitimate chance, he'd face a super-pac funded onslaught that would make the one that beat down Gingrich look laughably small. The Republicans know that not only could they not afford him winning, but that he'd probably destroy the candidates down the ticket as well. And given his decades of pretty much outright racist writings published under his name, it wouldn't be hard either.
  4. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 01:35 PM) True. And you can't say that he makes up for it with his glove either. He'll clearly get a couple offers for minor league contracts with spring training invites, but it's the major league deal that he would likely want to get.
  5. QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 10:57 AM) He's Dennis Rodman. You hate him unless he's on your team, and even thwen you might not like him. He would be better liked if he had a posse, drank more, and perhaps shot someone. You put this on Facebook in the morning. Not only am I calling BS on this...but I'm goign to ask in reply, where would his career be if he thanked Allah after winning a game at Florida? I'd say 5th round pick, practice squad somewhere. The only reason he ever got a chance to start is because his fanbase loves him, not because of football, but because of religion.
  6. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 01:30 PM) Why can't he become a UFA after he clears waivers. He was designated for assignment in order to offer him his unconditional release. Teams can claim him and take on the salary or the jays can release which sounds like that will happen. 2k5 said the specific phrase "Claimed him". That means claiming him on waivers, which means absorbing the contract. Once he passes through waivers, it's anyone's game, but I wouldn't be the team offering him a major league deal.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 11:31 AM) Huntsman is the General Wesley Clark of this primary. Wesley Clark's problem was that he got into the race too late to actually catch on to anything, and wound up being an also-ran because he didn't have anything that really distinguished himself policy-wise. If I'm going to compare him to anyone in this race it's Perry...although Clark didn't make himself look like a fool nearly as much.
  8. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 01:25 PM) I hope he signs on somewhere else. He seems like a good guy. The problem is that his performance iwht the bats the last couple years simply doesn't justify a major league contract.
  9. Things I only say begrudgingly; Props to Ball State University. They're apparently building effectively the nation's largest single geothermal heating and cooling system, that will basically take over running the heating and cooling for all of their building pretty soon. Eliminating multiple coal fired boilers, saving them about $2 million a year.
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 09:47 AM) And so you can consider us just as unlucky for being the worst team in the league during the terrible 99-02 drafts, and then getting just good enough to miss out on the incredible 03 draft. The nba is all about luck in the draft. And having Jay Williams nearly kill himself right before the league opened up the rules so much that it could have made him one of the top PG's in the league.

  12. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 03:24 PM) Eric Dickerson had 1800 yards rushing, 400 yards receiving and 20 total TDs in his rookie year. Gimme him. Yeah, I gotta take this one also. Moss probably 2nd.
  13. Billionaire Republican Sheldon Adelson (owns the Venetian casino in Vegas) has given $5 million to a pro-Gingrich Super-PAC, specifically for the purpose of running a long series of anti-Mittens attack ads in South Carolina over the next 2 weeks. Apparently this will include running a 30 minute attack ad. Here's its trailer.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 09:11 AM) The NFL scenario for sure. Bad QBs get to the playoffs all of the time if they are accompanied by great defenses. Think of guys like Rex Grossman going to the superbowl. With 162 games in a major league season, extremely unlikely events, things like unassisted triple plays or inside the park grand slams, have a finite chance of occurring. But they tend to not be so hugely important as to wind up dominating a season and deciding a champion, because the season is so long that those single events tend to average out. On the other hand, the NFL season is only 16 games, so seemingly incredible occurrences, things that should never, ever, ever happen, like a coach kicking the ball to a healthy Devin Hester or a safety cheating upwards against the run leading to an 80 yard completion, those things can dominate a championship path. Both of these are cited as reasons to love the sport.
  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 09:02 AM) More like people who bred and trained their dogs to be out of control... Bred, that maybe true...but at least IMO, a lot of the people with Pit Bulls who cause trouble haven't trained them to be out of control, they just have failed to train/keep them under control.
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 08:58 AM) Oh come on now...that's a bit harsh...Tom Brady he is not, but he played a hell of a game yesterday. If you add some sort of qualifier..."He played a hell of a game given that he's a first year starter" or "He played a hell of a game given his skill level" or "He played a hell of a game compared to what he did the last few weeks", I'll agree. He didn't play a hell of a game compared to say, Jay Cutler this season. He did play a hell of a game compared to say, Andy Dalton the day beforehand. Drew Brees...now that was a Hell of a game.
  17. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 07:45 AM) Andrew is generally only considered conservative by liberals. Because his policies certainly aren't liberal, but he is gay.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 08:54 AM) "I thought the cop was a prostitute."
  19. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 10:05 PM) The worst part is that jesus actually played well. No magic bulls***, the f***er actually played a good game. The 10/21 on its own really isn't all that great, there were a number of short passes that should have been completed. His numbers are decent, but they're really dominated by 1 80-yard sprint. He played a fair game, but if he'd been able to hit what should have been fairly easy passes, the broncos could have won by 20.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 09:49 PM) Statistically Rios played one of the worst Cfs in all of baseball last year. So, you would rather play Soriano in LF than Rios in CF?
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 08:28 PM) I really believe that Manning makes the players around him that much better. Look at the team this year and tell me different. But he still needs some level of talent to make that happen. You can see that in how he hasn't pulled off the kind of scoring he did with Wayne/Harrison once Harrison retired. Addai/Collie/Clark isn't going to cut it, especially if he only has a portion of an offseason to work with some rookie.
  22. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 08:23 PM) Why not? If the Steelers won the kickoff and did the same thing you'd say Denver would have no business getting the ball. Style points have never mattered in the NFL because it's decided on the field. It's a crappy rule and you're 100% wrong. Tackle the damn guy. He went 80 bloody yards. I think the rule is as good as it can be. Better htan the artificial college starting points, and if this game started on a touchback, the Broncos could have gone 35 yards and kicked a FG to win.
  23. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 08:18 PM) No way they win next week. The Pats destroyed them at Mile High, I don't see them doing any better in New England. Like I said at the start of the game, I didn't feel right rooting for therapists. I have zero issues rooting for the #1 seed to stomp the bejeezus out of this team.
  24. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 08:04 PM) When I hear a ref explain it, it is kind of lame that a TD on the first possession could end it but a FG wouldn't. Why can't the other team just get a possession no matter what? The whole goal was to eliminate the "cheap 1 first down and a field goal" version. The Steelers have no business getting the ball now.
