Frank Thomas: I could be the White Sox hitting coach.
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 29, 2011 -> 03:05 PM) That is true. It is a huge risk to hire a Sox player cause feelings will be bad when he gets fired. It's a huge huge risk to ruin the player's legacy with the fans. His legacy survived the post-2005 firing.

Thailand is supposedly responsible for about 30% of the world's rice trade. Their floods are going to cost their country ~1/4 of their rice export production. This will almost certianly produce a spike in the global rice price.

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Oct 29, 2011 -> 02:35 PM) I think KW will likely look to upgrade the RF or CF position by attempting to find a younger/ faster player who can potentially be our leadoff hitter. Shifting Rios to RF is an option if he finds a better suited CF via trade. His name is Alejandro De Aza. Like him or not...that guy has flat out earned a shot.

Jackson & Teahen to TOR for Frasor & Stewart (RHP)
QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Oct 29, 2011 -> 01:54 AM) I have a hard time believing the Blue Jays regret trading a bunch of non-cornerstone bullpen pieces for Colby Rasmus, a potential star CF. They are going to regret having to pay Mark Teahen next year at least. Rasmus needs to actually hit to make that worth while.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 29, 2011 -> 12:43 PM) It's why 99.9% of my posts are now in the Filibuster, because talking baseball here is like talking to one huge collective of nothing. And things haven't gotten better -- if anything -- they've gotten WAY worse. Balta and 2k5 fighting over economics is less painful than the baseball talk here.

QUOTE (jwmann2 @ Oct 28, 2011 -> 10:32 PM) For a league that is so concerned with protecting the history of the game of baseball, they are taking a look at instant replay awfully hard. It's a double standard and should not happen. This is also a game where I can remember the name of a fan who interfered with a home run ball 15 years ago because there was no replay. Get the call right.

I attempted a Rogue Chipotle ale last night. Fascinating. Got some of the smokiness early, then a hit of spice builds with time. Never had a beer with heat before.

QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 28, 2011 -> 07:33 PM) $126 billion in savings? Tell me that is hyperbole. If you could cut the prison population 20% that would do it. If you could massively cut police and somewhat cut healthcare costs that would do it too.

QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 28, 2011 -> 06:12 PM) I can find a player or two on every team, including the White Sox, that I can't stand. Hamilton is one of them, but it's not going to prevent me from rooting for them. It's good for baseball when new teams win their first championships. And considering they lost it last year, and it's so difficult to get there, I really hope the Rangers win it tonight....then I'll root against them next year when they have Prince Fielder. It's possible but I find it hard to believe the Rangers can pull another contract like that out of their hat unless someone takes the next 2/$32 for Young off their hands. Their opening day salary rose by 70% this year compared to last year, they lose some guys that will actually hurt (CJ, Oliver), they don't have any bad contracts that are ending to free space...and next year is the last year of Josh Hamilton's deal and Napoli's final arbitration year, they could really use to extend both.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 28, 2011 -> 05:04 PM) Reviewing fair and foul balls via instant replay could be tricky. If a ball is called foul and it turns out to be fair where do the baserunners end up? How many bases does the batter get? Although I could see the same thing with home runs. Has a situation ever occurred where a ball was ruled a HR and it was later overturned via instant replay? Yes, it's happened to a number of players, including Ryan Braun, Ian Kinsler and Jay Bruce. Braun had his wind up as a triple.
