Official 2011-2012 NFL Thread
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 17, 2011 -> 11:15 AM) Wasnt it similar to the Cedric Benson/Thomas Jones dynamic? Angelo felt Manning was going to be the better player at the position(.......sigh) and traded Harris for a pick before it was time to pay him and avoid a starter controversy? Still though...Not sure you give up your starting safety for a 6th round pick without there being some personal things as well.

Offseason Plans
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 17, 2011 -> 11:16 AM) Well the obvious problem is that Rickets is already substantially under where revenue projections placed him when he bought the team, and he has a very large loan out against the team. Without knowing his personal and the team's finances though, I hesitate to actively judge. You're probably right...but we've seen ballclub owners make stupider decisions than that. Hell, if he based his purchase price solely on the 2008 revenue numbers then he's not a very good businessperson anyway.

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 17, 2011 -> 11:17 AM) Well except when they send an adviser on Sunday TV to trash him... Could mean that they think the primary race is all but decided.

The Republican Thread
If you've paid attention, I think it's quite clear that the Obama administration has been hugging Mittens a lot more than anyone else in the race, especially when it comes to health care. I think it's pretty clear they think he's their strongest opponent.

Official 2011-2012 NFL Thread
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 17, 2011 -> 10:43 AM) Someone posted on twitter yesterday something to the effect of "Why is it that defensive players are seemingly benched for performance every game by Lovie Smith, yet Frank Omiyale has dressed for every game since he has signed his contract?" Harris had a really bad game against the Lions, there is no doubt about that. It could have been rust, lingering injury, whatever. But Brandon Merriwether had an equally bad game, as well as piss poor games previously while Harris was out injured and he dressed and played yesterday. That is a pretty disappointing set of standards by Lovie, Harris has played a lot of games under Lovie and it isnt like he gets burned every game he plays. You've got to figure that there's some lingering issues there in the first place too...between the Bears not wanting him, then wanting him back.

2011 World Series Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 17, 2011 -> 08:50 AM) I am so glad the Yankees and Tigers were eliminated. I don't really care who wins the WS now, other than maybe wanting Texas to win as an AL teeam. There I am. Wasn't really cheering for either of these teams but the teams I disliked (add on the Phillies) were removed, so I'm content.

Offseason Plans
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 17, 2011 -> 11:03 AM) Why would they? Theo is their big splash and even the two top free agents wouldn't put them in a position to contend next year. Because there's plenty of room for both revenue growth and revenue erosion next year. If Theo is their big splash then it seems like the scenario you're writing about for the Sox...substantial revenue erosion, is likely...and they might not want to risk that.

Offseason Plans
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 17, 2011 -> 09:21 AM) I don't see Mark wanting to play there, but even more, I don't see the Cubs wanting to spend any money they might have on him. I know the rumors are out there, but I don't see them making a free agent splash. I think for them it is Theo and then some retreads. Theo is going to be their biggest signing of this off season. There's reason to believe they might make a FA splash as a ticket seller, but there's plenty of reason to expect salary cutbacks too. Hard to judge that one without knowing their actual finances...but it's really hard to believe that M-56 would go there if he was their only FA splash (seriously, take a look at that roster minus Pena and Aramis), and it's really hard to believe that they have room to spent the $50 million a year or so it'll take to make multiple splashes.

Sox OF could look different in '12
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Oct 17, 2011 -> 10:17 AM) We're actually downgrading from Pierre in LF. Ah so sad Of course...fielding in LF is less of a challenge than CF, so hopefully moving from CF to LF would strengthen our defense out there compared to the debacle that was Pierre.

KW personally scouting in Latin America
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Oct 17, 2011 -> 10:35 AM) I think this is a good thing. It shows KW's commitment. It's like a member of management getting off of his ass and going out to the floor to see first hand what is going on. If you're working down there...it's also sending a message to have the top guy come to look over your shoulder.

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 17, 2011 -> 09:46 AM) And none of those involve finance at all. However, they do involve "Biology". I'm sure when we realize that we've made people even more unprepared to make decisions based on anatomy and about reproduction, and they wind up surprised that diseases they have carry down or they start asking the government to make more decisions about exactly which treatments they should undergo, you'll have no issues with them stepping in to fill the role, right?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 17, 2011 -> 09:02 AM) I'd agree with this 100%. No matter what you do with your life, you will need basic finance. Odds are you won't need something like biology. Thankfully we dont have people reproducing in this country or having to make medical decisions that benefit from a knowledge of anatomy.

Official 2011-2012 NFL Thread
QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 16, 2011 -> 09:52 PM) They'll get overconfident in the offensive line after a few performances like this, Martz whill go back to his 30 yard crosses and 40 yard deep outs, and they'll have another game like they did against Detroit. I don't know that it will happen in London, but it will happen at least one more time this year. Is Carimi back this week?

Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 16, 2011 -> 09:45 PM) I would hope that every candidate thinks that or else they are wasting tens of millions of dollars. I think only 3 guys in this race have raised well above $10 million so far and one does have no chance.

Official 2011-2012 NFL Thread
QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 16, 2011 -> 09:44 PM) It was the same as in NO, and NY last year...in loud, hostile environments, they get flustered and self-destruct. And Martz seems to refuse to adjust his playcalling or protection schemes, despite Cutler practically being dead. Tonight, they've had 7 guys in several times and max protect a time or two. But you're certainly right, you never quite know what you're going to get from them, which is why I refuse to bet them anymore. Another part of it is that Minnesota is crap.

QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Oct 16, 2011 -> 09:40 PM) It seems like the Bears are really getting fooled on play action. I'll still say this side of the ball is the teams biggest problem right now.

2011 NLCS: St. Louis Cardinals vs. Milwaukee Brewers
QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Oct 16, 2011 -> 09:26 PM) The pitching has so far sucked this postseason. I'm glad I watched Halladay/Carpenter, that's about the only decent performance by a pitcher this October.
