  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 08:46 AM) This is called no Guillen in the organization to leak stuff anymore. What a surprise all of Joe Cowley's "sources" didn't get him this scoop. Hell, even for the 3 months that both Guillen and Ventura were in the same org, no one knew.
  2. I think Mike North is going to be hired as the hitting coach.
  3. Perhaps we should celebrate appropriately by each being hired as manager of the White Sox?
  4. "No, I've never coached before. But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night."
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 06:59 AM) People are really upset that this might signal we're not going "all in" the next few years? Consider me relieved and hopeful that the organization will take a step back and see that there's a need to rebuild. I know I've received some ribbing due to praising the Tigers so much, but there's no reason that they aren't the class of the AL Central the next 2-3 years. I'd rather the Sox hope for Dunn and Rios to rebound instead of trying to cover their mistakes by bringing in other high-priced guys. My biggest problem here is the word "Hope". IMO, if you want Dunn and Rios to rebound...you need to surround them with guys who can get through to them. We saw a motivated offseason Rios in 2010 and he came out and was a monster to start that year. We saw an unmotivated Rios in 2011. We saw a completely broken emotional and probably physical Dunn in 2011. I can't see how half of the same staff with a guy less experienced and not obviously more interested than Ozzie is the guy who breaks through those walls.
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 10:06 PM) Layoff the booze. Players could give a s*** about earning your stripes as a manager. What they most often care about is whether or not you played the game. Seriously, a player doesn't care whether the stuff the manager is preaching has worked before? I don't buy that.
  7. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:59 PM) Which is exactly why it is a huge joke that people here seem to think they know what kind of manager Robin will be. I can accept the criticism in regards to the lack of experience. But there is so much to managing that includes working with people and egos, and as far as that goes, almost none of us know how skilled or unskilled Robin is. But there's a degree of experience going into how to prep different guys in the offseason and the spring to get different guys ready. Our last manager towards the end started refusing to adapt. Now we have a guy who hasn't been involved in the game since the steroid/amphetamine era. No way he has any way to adapt his preparation style to other guys. It's a roll of the dice about whether whatever style he has will break through to these guys before April.
  8. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:58 PM) He must have done something as the rover this year to impress the Sox. "yea, I'll work for that salary."
  9. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:54 PM) Wow. A lot of overreaction here, in my opinion. I think the guy knows baseball, and it seems like he has the respect of the players. We'll have to wait and see. What exactly has he done to earn the players respect? Worked his way up? Gained experience? Done anything to establish himself as wanting this job?
  10. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:51 PM) ChrisDeLuca Chris De Luca More Ken Williams on Robin Ventura: "With the current roster, and our future roster, he is just the guy that we have to have." #whitesox 3 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply I have no idea what this means. He's cheap?
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:14 PM) What's this in reference to?
  12. I should note...I've added Jim beam to my celebration of robins hiring. Maybe he'll really earn that retired number 23.
  13. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:12 PM) Im pretty sure Ventura accepting a job that he doesnt need shows he wants to be a manager. He could have easily said no and over time hes consistently said he wanted to be involved with baseball again after his kids grew up. Maybe he just didnt want his kids to turn out to be like Oney? And yet he's already talking about other jobs.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:12 PM) No one has answered the most important question: do Ventura's kids have twitter accounts? Are his kids old enough for that yet?
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:09 PM) One can only guess that KW had very little to do with this. The majority of our anger should be directed at Reinsdorf...if one is inclined to react immediately in that direction. Obviously JR is the one who convinced Robin to do this...conversations had been going back and forth for a number of years about him taking a more active role in the organization. Obviously, most believed he'd have to "put in his time" before he would become manager. But clearly he works well enough with Bell and KW, as well. Heck, it's not like you've ever heard of anyone not getting along with the guy, he's not a polarizing personality like Fisk or Black Jack. If he's not Kennys choice... f***ing resign!
  16. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:09 PM) Wow really Joey Cora? Because he learned from Ozzie? This is definitely bizzarro world. At least he's indicated that he actually wants to be a manager.
  17. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:08 PM) Really? Totally fair. He can't even say this is the job he dreamed about or the standard platitudes.
  18. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:07 PM) He was just one example. Alomar was also out there, and a few other guys. I'd have been less mad with JOey Cora.
  19. Great, so managing is putting his feet in the water for the real job. And last year was Adam Dunn putting his feet in the water for dh.
  20. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:00 PM) Come to think about it, this was set already, anyone remember early in the season when robin was around the cell? And was named roving instructor or something? I think they knew then that Ozzie was gonna be let go to Florida. Youre probably right.
  21. Well, I guess the hope now is that greg is right and all managers are the same. Because if not...were in trouble.
  22. Cutler was inthe dancing with the stars audience this week.
  23. Not until I get my bailout.
