  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 10:57 AM) 2. This primary and caucus oneupsmanship (is that one word?) is so stupid. This could be easily solved. Split the states into, say, 8 primary dates. One every three weeks or so, from January through June. Which states fall into which wave is a rotation that changes each cycle. for the first year, give the historically first states (IA, NH, NV, FL, and a couple others) the January wave in the first year, then that "team" of states moves back to the Feb primary the next cycle, then March, etc. There is no need for all this absurdity. Any system you can possibly imagine or propose would work better than this stupid mess where 2 totally unrepresentative states are given inordinate power for no obviously good reason. As long as both parties and the media are willing to accept that mistake, then there will be other states trying to leapfrog.
  2. QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 11:01 AM) The choke Atlanta pulled off makes him valuable to them. If they're planning on benching/sending down Heyward, you'd be correct. Heyward's lack of punch was what killed them in the OF this year. He'd be an upgrade on Prado/Hinske in LF, but those guys are already signed or are arb-eligible, so the team is spending money on them either way, unless you're up for a Prado for Quentin swap.
  3. Nevada schedules their caucuses on Jan. 14, could possibly push Iowa into December.
  4. Fortunately they don't know where to find you.
  5. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 10:35 AM) The haul we'll get for him is shaping up to be epic. If Kenny Williams gets a decent haul for him, I will be impressed and applaud Kenny Williams. I'm still content with his performance in dumping Jackson.
  6. Don't patronize Georgian Footballers.
  7. And Hell...he might not even be healthy at the time of the trade. Any GM trading for him better demand a physical on that shoulder, with a full MRI and everything else that is allowed.
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 10:18 AM) Yeah, but your opinion is extremely skewed. Teams were willing to part with very good talent for him at the deadline and they will again in the offseason. You just posted why when you went to WAR. Not every team has an up and coming power righthanded bat to just plug into the OF like we do. If you dont believe me, check out what Jayson Werth got last offseason. Quentin is 3 years younger. Jayson Werth had put up 3.5 straight seasons of health and OPS's over 860, culminating in a .921 OPS the year before he hit free agency, in addition to being viewed as a plus defender. Carlos Quentin has finished 0 full seasons in his last 4. He has never played more than 131 games in a season. His average OPS over the last 4 years is .857, but over the last 3 years it's .815. ANd he's viewed as a defensive negative, even if he was our best fielder in the OF this year. If you're trading for Carlos Quentin, you're hoping for a .950 OPS and a full season. You're much more likely to get an .830 OPS and 2/3 of a season...and there's just as good of a chance of him missing most/all of the year as there is of him putting up a .900 OPS. It's like putting Jake Peavy in your rotation...you better have a backup plan.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 10:07 AM) Except teams were willing to give up pretty decent players for him just a few months ago, and now you have the full complement of teams to work with. And fewer "Quentin Shoulders".
  10. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:57 AM) Favre's last year he led them to a 13-3 season and the NFC Championship game. They lost in overtime by a FG. The following year the packers were 6-10. They might have projected Rogers to be a better player as Favre declined, but there's no way he could have been considered better at that particular time. Green Bay was 8th in yards gained that 6-10 season and 5th in points. They weren't losing games because of their offense, they were losing them because they were 22nd in points given up. They had a 93.3 passer rating from their QB's, good for 6th in the league and right behind the Colts. They gave up 131 yards a game, and 4.6 yards per carry in the running game (26th in the league). Gave up over 2000 yards on the ground that year. They lost 10 games because they couldn't stop the run. They then proceeded to get a top 10 pick that they used to draft BJ Raji. BJ Raji has proven fairly adept at stopping the run. Suddenly their weakness is now a strength.
  11. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:42 AM) So....why again are we trading him then? So that we don't have 5 people in the OF next year who need to be starting is the best answer I can give.
  12. But I used my iphone to find that name. That seemed appropriate too.

  15. Xenophobic Republicans have more posts than this thread, and the Demycrat thread has 2x as many.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:03 AM) You don't think someone would pay Carlos's salary to have him? LOL. I might pay the $7 mil or so in arbitration he'd get...but if I'm paying that you're not getting my top prospect. Or even a good one. If he performed exactly as he did last year, in the fangraphs world, he'd generate $11 million worth of WAR. I'd be paying $7 million for that, and probably wind up with a sandwich pick out of it assuming the rules don't change with this CBA (Which they're likely to do anyway). But he's shown no sign of the 2008 dominance since that year, and the last 2 years he was a negative value player...so I'm gambling $7 million on a guy who for 2 of the last 3 seasons has been almost useless. The only way you're getting me as a GM to give up a legit player for him is to pay some of the salary yourself so that I don't have to risk paying him to be on the DL.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 08:42 AM) And once again, the left wing fear machine comes up short. Yes, that's right...make fun of the left because Sarah Palin won't be President. Please. While you're at it, how about you make fun of us because we generate too much electricity from solar, our air is too clean, and we have started too few silly wars.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 08:23 AM) that is the key. We have a guy on the roster who is going to be putting up pretty close to Q's numbers at 5% of the cost. That's why you make the trade. Plus the odds are you can get someone to help you at some point for Q, so you end up with Viciedo+trade pieces+a lot of cash>Carlos Quentin. So what happens if, because of his injury, the trade pieces aren't very good or you even have to chip in some cash?
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 08:48 AM) That by no means actually means they have not done so. Then they're just putting up smokescreens for no other reason than to piss off Sandy Alomar Jr.
  20. Very far from number 1 actually
  21. These 2 pitchers were teammates all the way back in the Blue Jays minor leagues.
  22. Cutler Mic'd up during the Panthers game.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 08:31 AM) Sure, if they involve stem cells... I think you're missing a couple quotation marks. "Stem Cells."
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 08:30 AM) Interesting that they still have not talked to Sandy. I wonder if that was a screen so they could hide what they really wanted? I don't see how that would be of any real use...it's not like any other teams could talk to Martinez for the last week anyway.
  25. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 09:23 PM) Ill just pretend thats sarcasm, because even as someone who uses windows its undeniable that they tried to emulate the Apple operating system. Unless you never used a computer that ran with ms dos. Not even just that...before Apple there was no concept of a "personal computer." A computer was something businesses and governments and astronauts needed, not schoolchildren.
