  1. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 05:20 PM) Ozzie saying Rios was swinging the bat pretty good in the dugout in the postgame presser. Well, supposedly Rios took quite a few shots to the dugout wall after he made his third out, to the point that they could be heard in the press box, so yeah I'd believe that.
  2. Obviously R-L matchups work. Every time.
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 05:07 PM) And did I read the box score right - Zach Stewart ran for PK? WTF was that about? THis is one move that made sense. The Bench was empty and PK14 was the tying run at 1st base. Someone had to run for Konerko who could at least have a shot of scoring on a double. Konerko would not have. Stewart was as good of an option as any.
  4. Wow, the Speaker of the House has actually come back and asked the President to reschedule his address on Thursday the 8th, rather than Wednesday the 7th, ostensibly because the House is not in session on the 7th and that would give them more time to prepare (but there's also a Republican debate scheduled on that night). September the 8th, of course, is opening night of the NFL season. If there's such a thing as "scheduling hardball", i think we've seen both the White House and the Speaker play it today. Kinda neat. I should drink for that one.
  5. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 05:02 PM) Vizquel's terrible and he could have been called on strike on two occasions. We got a break. That doesn't negate the fact that he hits from the left side of the plate. For this manager, that is reason enough to PH.
  6. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 05:00 PM) I still don't understand why he put Omar to pinch hit for Beckham. If I remember correctly, Bekcham's homered off Nathan before (the good one). That's wasting a player for no reason. Because Vizquel can hit from the left side of the plate.
  7. Sad thing is, if it got that far, I wouldn't have been mad about Dunn PHing for Rios.
  8. If Rios does something useful here, do we all apologize to Marty?
  9. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:50 PM) Zach Stewart in to pinch run huh? Gotta be faster than Konerko.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:48 PM) They are pitching to him? Seriously? Yeah, that's a wee bit confusing.
  11. Now you walk Konerko and face our cleanup hitter.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:44 PM) I'd take a walk too That's about the best you can hope for here.
  13. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:43 PM) Also, you'll notice half of my comments are completely ignorant so it should be obvious Stop trying to convince me that you are fathom!
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:41 PM) If the Sox do decide to rebuild this offseason, then I absolutely support Morel playing 3rd base next year. The only way the White Sox will be doing anything with their 3b spot other than maybe backing it up wiht someone other than Vizquel is if they push their salary to $140 million.
  15. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:40 PM) Dunn is up? On deck to hit for the Elf.
  16. Dunn has come out on deck for the Elf. Seriously?
  17. Ok, now we need a HR here! who's up next?
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:35 PM) De Aza with the Twins style double. Down 3, taking that extra base there was risky. They'd give him the base without a throw on the first pitch here.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:34 PM) I swear I don't have two accounts on here And I was so close to having a reason to ban both accounts!
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:30 PM) Balta, the whole point about Morel is that if you go into next year with 4 guys you have to hope have a huge turnaround season from 2011 in Dunn/Rios/Beckham/Morel, then you're setting yourself up for a potentially really bad year. As I mentioned earlier, 3b seems the most obvious position where you can try to upgrade if you don't want to trade Beckham. Here's the thing fathom...if you trade Danks, like you advocated earlier in this thread, then you're not only requiring 4 guys to have a turnaround, but you're also needing to replace a starter, making things even harder. And then there's your friend Peavy. The sad thing is...you're right about Danks. This team is going to be cutting salary this offseason, we'll be lucky to retain Buehrle. Quentin is going to go. Danks is going to go. And that barely gets us down to $110 million. If this team is going to compete, and we don't get lucky enough to have Tony Reagans bail us out on a contract, then there is not going to be any upgrade other than whatever comes back in trades from the team on the field right now. Which means, competition is going to require having turnaround seasons. It really is the only way we're going to compete. And whatever comes back in those trades...it's likely to be a couple years down the road from being solid production. Edit: oh, and since whatever comes back in trades is likely to struggle for a year or two once it gets to the bigs, you'll be unhappy with that result also and calling for those guys to be replaced too. Because how can you compete with whatever guy that is in the lineup?
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:22 PM) Damn. Konerko couldn't score. Unless the guy at 2b could have gotten to 3rd, that's a high risk/low reward play.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:21 PM) Well here is Dayan's chance to show something as Gardenhire doesn't go to the pen. As usual, he shows that he's a monster.
