some youth to work with
QUOTE (mataipaepae @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 06:26 PM) That's why I showed Danks getting tradedto the Mets and Beurhle as our starter. I think aj needs to be traded. I think floaters gives us everything aj does especially with Castro as his backup. He seemed to call a good game with Peavy today. Sure aj probably gives us a better batting average (.270) while flowers might be lower (.250) but he will give us 15-20 more homeruns and more speed on the base to go from 1st to 3rd. The problem is, Flowers's .250 batting average from the minors is unlikely to translate to the bigs without a big dropoff. We're much more likely to be talking sub -.200 given his strikeout rates, unless he snaps things together. He hits .250 in the bigs he's probably hitting 30+ home runs.

Brent Morel
You may as well just release Dayan if you're thinking of moving him back to 3b. At least that wouldn't screw with the kid's positioning any more than it already has been.

2011-2012 OFFICIAL NBA LOCKOUT thread
QUOTE (zenryan @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 05:34 PM) Is there a players union for personal endorsement deals? Is there a players union for people playing in Europe? In either case, they're using the skills and abilities from the NBA to set themselves up with another income.

2011-2012 OFFICIAL NBA LOCKOUT thread
QUOTE (zenryan @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 05:22 PM) The point is to show solidarity among the players/union. When you have a small group just caring about themselves( the superstars who get European offers) then the other union members will start to split themselves. Does the union split when some guys sign shoe contracts and others don't?

Sox Trade Busts vs. Other Team
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 05:19 PM) Can Rizzo honestly be credited with developing Strasburg and Storen? Didnt both of them spend less than a year in the minors? And Strasburg blew his arm out in less than 2 months.... The Nats are drafting well, unfortunately this is because they are drafting extremely high due to some historically bad seasons, but at least they didnt pull a Pittsburgh and screw up multiple years drafting in the top 10 They also had probably the 2 easiest draft choices in the last decade too.

Sox Trade Busts vs. Other Team
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 05:13 PM) I didn't say he was Mike Adams. That was a good move, IMO. Napoli had no place there. Got a reliever with really good stuff. And he's a FA after this year. So they're in the drivers seat either way. Fact is the Blue Jays are young, talented and cost-controlled. What more could you ask of a GM in their situation pre-AA? Starting next year, they won't have a single even semi-bad contract on their roster. Now the trick will be getting free agents to come to Canada. As they'll have a ton of money to spend if they so choose. No, the real trick is taking all of this potential you rave about and turning it into actual on the field performance. That's where you can say a guy is the best in the business.

Sox Trade Busts vs. Other Team
And out of every one of those players you mentioned, the only one who has really contributed positively to the Blue Jays so far is Escobar. I love some of the methods you use to prove his dominance. Frank Francisco has a stellar k/9 and a 1.471 WHIP, for example.

8/7 Gamethread Sox vs Twins
QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 04:19 PM) I don't know if I'd want to trade him now. With the adjustments he's made and the way he's hitting the ball now, he may raise his average to .240 or so by the end of the season. if someone would take his entire contract, the Sox would be insane to hold onto him. He could hit 15 HR the rest of the year and that wouldn't change that reality.

QUOTE (JoshPR @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 04:19 PM) I don't think that was walker.... I see, it was time travel. Last year's Rios from May time traveled to this week to give this Rios some time off

QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 04:17 PM) Having Rios come out of his long, long drought is awesome! It's beginning to look like a good thing now that we didn't trade him. Dude, no one would have traded for him, no one would trade for him now.

He's had better contact the last 2 games than he's had all season.

There ya go! Only first deck, unfortunately.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 03:56 PM) I'd give him one more inning, and then let the pen close it out. He's at what, 80 pitches? Pitch him until his arm gives out for the day. Especially now that we're back to a 6 man pen.

8/7 Gamethread Sox vs Twins
QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 03:53 PM) Check that, easy inning for Peavy Push Peavy as long as he can go, there's nothing wrong with that...you just have to have someone close to ready in the bullpen so that if he gets in trouble, you can pull him before it totally implodes. If he can go 8, great, but don't lose the game trying to make him go 7.

Great work Jake.

Even if they don't come in, someone needs to be up in the bullpen.

QUOTE (kapzk @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 03:46 PM) Detroit coming back vs KC, its 4-2 and Chen is getting hit hard at the moment. And according to Hawk's inning by inning updates, the tarp is on the field.

Well, at least the busted hit and run relieved us of that problem of having a baserunner.

Lillibridge singled to RF. Clearly he should have been bunting.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 03:17 PM) Non-Sox, but anyone think the Reds fire Dusty after this year? Why would they? I know they're out of the race this year, but that's a big "What have you done for me lately" thing. Is he heavily paid or ending a contract?

Good battle by Flowers though.

I like Flowers's swing mostly but I don't like how his body leans down just before he's swinging, it looks like it pushes him off balance.
