  1. QUOTE (chunk23 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:35 AM) 2) KW turning Daniel Hudson into a relief pitcher and salary relief is atrocious planning and the height of his incompetence. KW turning Jackson into a relief pitcher and salary relief is a fair move, in a vacuum.
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:35 AM) What prospect would they want besides Dayan? I wouldn't do that. But the lack of a decent system besides Dayan has screwed us for the second consecutive season. The only other guys worth anything would be guys like Addison Reed or maybe Beckham still, but neither of them seems like enough to balance out for Rasmus.
  3. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:33 AM) Obviously, it is time for Kenny Williams to go. This is the last straw in a long run of terrible deals of depreciating value as he continues to throw good players after bad to chase a championship in a division that is highly winnable year-in and year-out. This team needs an enema. You read this as "Chasing after the division"?
  4. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:28 AM) No...As good as Rasmus can be, I will take my chances with Viciedo. And that's why Rasmus wasn't coming to the Sox.
  5. QUOTE (chunk23 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:28 AM) People are mad because KW traded away a very good young pitcher for an okay older pitcher, which is now being turned into a relief pitcher, while another team uses Jackson as the centerpiece to acquire a very good young outfielder. In other words, KW is mismanaging his resources and other GMs are taking advantage. Jackson will not be the "Centerpiece" if the Jays get Rasmus. He'll be a complimentary piece at best. Maybe a throwin.
  6. Would y'all have done Jackson + Viciedo + Reed for Rasmus?
  7. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:22 AM) People are saying that De Aza was called up because this trade is done. If the Sox were going to call up anyone it would be a pen arm for 1 day and then send him down to bring up De Aza. The Sox arent trading any OF's there is absolutely no need to call up De Aza if its for this deal. It would be an arm that would be most important. The White Sox's bullpen has the same number of arms in it post-deal that it had in it pre-deal.
  8. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:21 AM) Might as well march there either way. If Kenny could draft and develop a legitimate prospect more than very occasionally, deals like the Rasmus one wouldn't be so hard for us. We've developed a lot of legit prospects the last 4 years. We've just traded most ofthem away.
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:19 AM) I swear to God. I love Rasmus so f***ing much, and we're going to help him go to f***ing Toronto. It'd have been Jackson + viciedo, I'd bet.
  10. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:18 AM) Frasor wouldnt be playing today, meaning if this deal was done Sox probably would have wanted to call up an emergency pitcher. Its not a necessity because Jackson is a starter but they already have Humber in the pen and he isnt being used so if they dont call up a reliever and dont have Frasor they are really thin today. If they were so sure this deal was done, theyd have called up a reliever for 1 day to just send down the next. I don't think that "Unavailable due to trade" clears up a roster spot for a day, I think the guy still holds that roster spot.
  11. QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:17 AM) So, it could be Daniel Hudson, Edwin Jackson and Mark Teahen for George Frasor. Don't forget Holmberg!
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:11 AM) That's the only wat this makes sense. Toronto spent a couple million to get themselves a sandwich pick in the Miguel Olivo deal last year. They're willing to do things like this to stockpile draft picks, they've already proven that.
  13. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:15 AM) Or it could be another trade because technically this trade opens up 2 spots. There could be another deal that opens 1 spot, or they could be DLing Lilli. Its all speculation. No, it opens up 1 spot, Frasor takes the other.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:09 AM) Hah...as soon as I realized it was Kona, I was more concerned. But I still think that something is getting lost in translation here. This has got to be misinformation. If it's not, and we don't get a premium prospect, and we won't, then I will be finished with this regime and you won't find me defending them any longer. Is it fair to say yet that my "the Jackson trade will be justified if he wins 2 playoff games for the Sox" standard will not be met?
  15. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:13 AM) Was there a roster spot already open for DeAza? Or has something else gone down ahead of the potential trade? No, there's no one else the sox can move to create a roster spot unless someone is going on the DL in the next hour and we have no idea. De Aza starting means someone has been dealt.
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:13 AM) Are you ready to retract this post if the new rumor is right and Edwin is flipped for Rasmus? If he's flipped straight up, that'd be fairly pathetic. IF he's flipped along with some other legit piece, then no.
  17. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:12 AM) If the words, Colby Rasmus or Top Prospect come out, I'm going to be upset. Clearly if the Jays want Rasmus they're going to have to include something with a lot of value. More thahn anything the Sox would give up.
  18. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:11 AM) As others have noted, this simply means they have been told to dump salary. I'm sure the Jays would get a better deal for Jackson alone. Dumping Teahen's contract isn't a huge savings. That means you could get a "Slightly" better deal for Jackson alone.
  19. QUOTE (forrestg @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 10:44 AM) De Aza shouldn't cost too much probably the league minimum this year anyway. They were interested in Pierre, not De Aza
  20. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:05 AM) Could they DFA Jackson or Teahen to make room on the roster until the trade is complete? No, because if a team realized there was demand for either of those players, then someone like the Mariners would just claim them and do the trade themselves.
  21. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:02 AM) My issue in this trade is the White Sox are basically wasting Edwin Jackson's value in order to get rid of a bad contract (Teahen). It's why I think this is a pretty bad trade. Also, Ozzie Guillen's favorite family member fails to point out that the "solid reliever" we get is also "done in two months". Because this is Edwin Jackson's value. Compared to picking up a pitcher off the waiver wire, he might be worth at best 2 wins this year, maybe more likely 1. To get that extra win, a team also has to pay a couple million dollars. They get the joy of a sandwich pick in exchange for him as well, but that doesn't net anything for years and may not even happen since the CBA is up this year. Dumping $9 million or so (or $5 m illion if we pick up Frasor's option) Is edwin Jackson's value.
  22. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:00 AM) They dont need De Aza to play the game or even be there. we have Lilli. Yeah, we can live 1 day with a 23 man roster. We're not trading away a starter here.
  23. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 10:56 AM) Maybe Toronto feels bad for sticking us with Rios... but the story of KW not wanting Detroit to get him so he tried the block... he should have let Detroit claim Rios...can't stand watching Rios anymore much like everyone else. Then you should be happy. If this deal goes through, it clears a roster spot for De Aza to come up, and at least you'll be seeing a platoon in CF for the rest of the season.
  24. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 10:50 AM) The enigmatic E-Jax is arguably the best starting pitcher on the market. If all you get is a B-prospect and a decent reliever (a soon-to-be 34-year-old one at that), then that is a major fail. I would rather have pressed on with E-Jax trying to win the division. It will all come down to the prospects we are getting back, but I will assume they will nothing like when KW traded Ray Durham for f***ing Jon Adkins. The fact that he's the best starting pitcher on the market doesn't make him that good. it's also probably not true, esp. if the Sox are talking to people about Danks as well.
