De Aza Pulled from game in Charlotte
QUOTE (Paulstar @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 08:42 PM) Maybe De Aza is in limbo and a trade is in the process of being completed? Eh, I doubt it. Probably just another thing to get people excited and it turns out his wife was having a kid or something of the sorts. If a trade was in progress, the person beig traded wouldn't be on the field tonight.

Willie, they're talking about next saturday. Next saturday's starter should be Jackson but it is listed as TBA.- Ken Williams considers youth movement
QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 04:28 PM) KW knows exactly what he wants to do and what he says in the media is for the fans, to motivate players, and for negotiation disinformation purposes only. KW has plan A, B, C, D.... He has made some moves that have not turned out well the past few years, but he is the most aggressive GM in baseball. If I were in his chair right now I wouldn't have a clue what to do with this team.- The Democrat Thread
I'm surprised that there hasn't been a "Family values" level statement that its better for the child/children to have one parent at home than to have the kid in day care all day. Anyway, repeating my question...am I wrong that the 96 reform act added in limits to the amount of time you could spend on SNAP benefits?- The Democrat Thread
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't part of the "Welfare reform" package a limit to the time that you could spend on the SNAP program?- Financial News
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 03:43 PM) Or they could have just not been the rubberstamps they claim to have been and actually done something about it. Not pass the tax cut extension.- Official 2011-2012 NFL Thread

If you watched Sale go 3 innings just battering the Royals, with his defense letting him down once or twice, before he finally got tired, you'd know why I think letting that wither in the bullpen is just a stupid unforced error.- Financial News
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 03:26 PM) The most mind blowing part of this is that our leaders are portraying it as a good thing that they blindly signed off on these increases and didn't challenge them. Like somehow not fulfilling a fiduciary duty is now somehow a solid policy position. The issue there is...they are signing off on every bit of the debt. Congress passes the budget, the President can't just spend money out of no where. Every cent of the evil debt has been approved by Congress once already. Every cent of that out of control spending gets passed by Congress. They already signed off on the debt that would guarantee we'd hit the debt ceiling when they passed the tax cut package last December. The only purpose of the debt ceiling is to give Congress a mechanism by which it can force a default. If there's another mechanism I'd love to hear it.- Colby Rasmus Trade Rumor
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 03:18 PM) I was just going to say that Sale has made Matt expendable at about 1/12th the price. The biggest worry of course is that trading Thornton would leave Sale pigeonholed into middle relief next year when he ought to be working as a starter. That would be a terrible outcome.- Financial News
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 03:14 PM) What if, in 20 years, the republicans gain majorities in the house/senate and presidency and decide to wage war with Russia on credit and just pump the debt to 100 trillion...because there's nothing in place that says they at least have to vote? All of these controls are there for a reason, mostly accountability. Well, there used to be this thing called the "War Powers Act" that required Congressional approval for wars as well. Of course, we're ignoring that right now too.- Official 2011-2012 NFL Thread
QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 03:02 PM) It's Roy Williams the WR, not the safety. Unless you are talking about someone else entirely. Oops, my bad.- What Would a White Sox Fire Sale Look Like?
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 03:02 PM) Didn't the D-bax offer more? Not according to stuff out there.- What Would a White Sox Fire Sale Look Like?

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 02:53 PM) This I agree with. Removing a control put in place for a very specific purpose isn't wise. That said, defaulting for political reasons isn't what the control is meant for. I feel the same at my job, as the network firewall guy...people see me as a nuisance that prevents easy access...but that's exactly my purpose. That control is in place for numerous reasons, one specifically being that the people can hold those who vote for it/against it accountable, like many other "votes" in congress. It's there for many a reason and needs to stay for many a reason, whether you find it to be a nuisance or not. At this point though, it's no longer a nuisance. It's a legitimate, direct threat to the country. It'd be that you decided to remove the firewall if you didn't get a raise. In that case, the right move is to get rid of the power to remove the firewall...(here meaning, to fire you).- Official 2011-2012 NFL Thread
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 02:47 PM) Harris & Wright are the starters. Drafted Conte this year. Steltz is on the roster, but he is awful at football. Probably could use more depth. In other words, it might not hurt to work him out, but there's no reason to rush on it if someone else wants to offer him money, and you might as well treat him as about the level of a UDFA. I see from checking the Bears have already grabbed 3 UDFA's who can play some safety too.- The environment thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 02:43 PM) Except of course, that isn't how it actually works in the VA that you love so much. You get sick, you get told you don't have a condition, and you get sent home. Because, just like private insurance, the VA isn't a universal system.- Official 2011-2012 NFL Thread

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 02:38 PM) Or eliminated, since it's pretty dumb anyway. I understand the point behind it, there used to be a real defense. It's actually not a bad thing to have Congress have a mechanism by which it can force a default if it so chooses, defaults have happened before and nations have recovered, and there's nothing a priori wrong with having Congress have protest votes now and then; they're going to anyway. But at this point, defaulting with no good reason other than not liking the President suggests that we've entered a different phase, where the existence of this vote does way too much harm to exist any more.- The environment thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 02:34 PM) Their strategy is even better. Forget pre-existing conditions, you have no condition. That way you have no reason to get expensive treatment. Except of course, that's not how a universal system would work. You get sick, the treatment is covered, the cause only matters if it influences the treatment. Here, we spend hundreds of manhours analyzing causes so that we can shift the cost onto other companies, all of which is effectively wasted.- Financial News
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 02:35 PM) The NFL labor situation is more complex than the federal deficit? Stick to football Kraft. Stick to, I dunno, reading? He said "Debt ceiling", not "Federal deficit". The debt ceiling can be fixed very, very easily. It could just be raised, as it has been dozens of times before.- Relationship Advice Thread
QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 02:32 PM) Yeah she has a few time in the past. I suppose it couldn't hurt to try. I wouldn't like never speak to her again, but if you don't see her everyday anyway, may as well wait and give her the chance to respond. In a week or so, maybe less depending on how often you usually hang out, you might want to rethink that notion. - 2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
