  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 05:14 PM) Again, I'm asking if anyone has an opening. Would Dombrowski take Dunn and his contract for nothing right now? Its a yes or no question. Not moderator gang up time. No he wouldn't...because he doesn't have a spot for him, and that's the only reason. If you go and break both of Avila's knees, he'd jump on him.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 05:11 PM) So you're saying they were out of the race until this weekend, and these 3 games over Easter weekend put them back in the race and would be in the market for a DH hitting .150 and owed $50 million? Please don't ever tell anyone what they post is silly ever again. IF that DH was Adam Dunn and a team had an opening, absolutely.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 05:02 PM) Way to dance around it. You know the answer. The only reason why they wouldn't is that Avila is hitting quite well, and if they have both him and VMart as solid bats they wouldn't have an opening at DH.
  4. I want Man Soo Lee back.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 03:43 PM) We're paying Juan Pierre $7 million this season. Last year, he was only $3.5 million. Throwing away $12+ million is what's causing us to have to think about trading Danks or Quentin (eventually, if things continue on this path). Let's not forget Linebrink as well. So that's basically $15 million. The Dodgers paid 1/2 of that.
  6. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 04:04 PM) Through 22 games this year, the Sox have scored 94 runs, team BA is .242. Our ERA is 4.42, and our record is 8-14. Through 23 games last year, the Sox had scored 92 runs, team BA was .223. Our ERA was 4.57, and our record was 9-14 Through 23 games in 2007, the Sox had scored 95 runs, team BA was .225. Our ERA was 3.98, and our record was 12-11 The scary thing is that we are worse off this year than in 2007, when we lost 90 games. So wait, through 23 games in 2007, the team was above .500, and they finished 18 games under .500? And no one takes any lesson from that?
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 03:31 PM) Ummm....Mark Teahen and Juan Pierre say hello. Probably AJ Pierzynski as well. You might be able to dump Buehrle's contract for nothing in return. I don't think Konerko's going to be moveable without sending a financial subsidy along in return. Just depends on a contending team having an injury there....but even with an injury, taking an aging 1B at this stage in his career is a big risk for any organization. We're not paying Juan Pierre all that much. Teahen might be unmovable, but caring about $5 million is stupid. Konerko and AJ are playing for us basically earning the same amounts that other teams offered them last offseason, and frankly, AJ is looking better at the plate than he did last year (although he's got a low OPS, he just hasn't homered yet).
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 03:28 PM) Where does that figure come from? $20 million? Although MLB doesn't publish official numbers so things are a little opaque, you can take it from the yearly Forbes published numbers. Here's reality...Forbes published that the Sox were $26 million in the black last season, and then suddenly the Sox went out and boosted their payroll by just about $25 million. Although they're not publishing everything, that's telling me that the Forbes numbers are pretty darn accurate. They're not going to lose money on this team. If they get in danger of really losing money because they're at the bottom of the Central on June 15, they'll ship enough people off to cover the potential loss.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 03:24 PM) Those insurance companies must be in the habit of just giving out money insuring baseball pitchers. If you spend enough money on the insurance contract, then people will insure almost anything, so yeah. Hell, AIG insured a few trillion worth of stuff without knowing what it was.
  10. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 03:24 PM) The only problem RD. Is that the ability to move for fiscal cleansing is minimal. Jackson and Buerhle are in their last years and won't garner a ton of prospects. Danks is worth something, but the minute we start moving our pitching then we are f***ed. Because the farm is empty and we have some older players locked up for a few years of a win now mentality. Let's be honest though...if Dunn ever resumes hitting like Adam Dunn...there are possibly only 2 guys on the roster you really look at and think "Unmovable", and that's Rios and Peavy. Rios could easily make himself moveable again, he did last year, and Peavy isn't hurting the team in salary if there's insurance on his contract.
  11. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 03:14 PM) D-Rose is in a walking boot and highly questionable for Game 5. KC
  12. QUOTE (Chisoxrd5 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 03:20 PM) The x-factor this season is the $130M payroll. If things continue down this path, the Chairman is set to lose big money this year. When this team is running deep in the red this June, it will force changes. Most likely these changes are going to be player personnel, but I would have to think Jerry is going to hold more than just the players responsible for this kind of failure. Keep a couple details in mind...the Chairman probably made $20 million last year with a struggling team, and he basically committed that $20 million to the roster this year. If the attendance figures come in similar, he's at break even. If there's a drop in attendance, that'll push him towards losing money...but there's also a possibility that there may be insurance dollars coming in again if the Sox hold a policy on Peavy, which has been rumored ever since we traded for him.
  13. Yay, Matty dismantles a few hitters.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 03:10 PM) Then they're going to have to start charging $50 for upper deck tickets or they won't ever be able to afford him. Danks simply isn't the kind of player who puts fannies in the seats like a Braun or Fielder. The Sox could afford him if they got off their tails and started playing baseball, rather than putting up zero's every day. There's plenty of room for revenue growth for this team right now, their ballpark has a ton of available seats, but they're flat out not earning ticket sales right now.
  15. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 03:08 PM) Because we are going to replace him and Jackson, and Buerhle with what? I keep peeking down in that farm of ours and things look a bit bare. If this team keeps hitting like this, it won't matter. The answer will be "Humber, Sale, whoever we draft this year, and whoever we get back for trading away Danks, Quentin, Konerko, and Thornton".
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 03:03 PM) Danks hasn't ever gotten run support by his teammates, hard to blame him too much when you're pitching with no margin for error. 46-47 career, 3.9+ ERA. Is that worth $75-100 million? Not to the White Sox. His ERA since his rookie year is 3.56, and that's been while pitching in a big pitcher's park. It's not worth 7/$120 to the White Sox, but that's the going rate for this caliber of pitcher.
  17. Just throw that outside slider on the Elf again and he'll be sitting.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 02:53 PM) sorry, can't quote for some reason. I agree Balta, Danks has had very little breathing room. His first 5 innings ERA has to be great. After today, his ERA in the first 5 innings is 1.80, it's 10.80 in the 6th.
  19. QUOTE (Chisoxrd5 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 02:52 PM) I've always thought that was one of the knocks on him. Great for 5 innings. Danks doesn't rack up the strikeouts like some people, but still winds up throwing a fair number of pitches to guys. He doesn't put guys away all that well if the change is inconsistent, and he's really vulnerable to people screwing around on defense behind him, like the Sox have been doing all year.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 02:51 PM) Danks is struggling with his stamina this yr He hasn't had anything made easy for him.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 11:23 AM) http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/larr...49_stone17.html Good in-depth article on the Mariners and the possibility they'll be under the 2 million attendance mark for the first time in Safeco's history. White Sox fans looking at our future fate in a true rebuilding/transition period, it's undoubtedly somewhere between 1.3 million and 1.6 million in attendance for half a decade. The last time the White Sox drew under 1.6 million fans was 1999.
  22. QUOTE (Chisoxrd5 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 02:48 PM) Contrary to popular belief, it's not the easiest thing in the world to pitch inning after inning knowing your offense is not capable of scoring a run. Which is why, when he was closing on 100 pitches, it wouldn't have been the worst idea in the world to have someone warming at the start of this inning, and maybe have Crain ready to face Jackson after that first double.
  23. Not quick enough on the pull there, oz.
  24. sigh...2 outs, nobody on, and they produce a run.
