  1. 4 of the Pacers broke off on Rose, and he still got to the hoop ahead of them.
  2. Have I mentioned recently how abjectly s****y our private health insurance system is? I have insurance, I need to use it, and now I'm going to wind up spending the rest of the weekend on the phone figuring out how I actually can use it. Rather than just going to the damn place where I went last time.
  3. Those drone attacks have sure done humanitarian wonders in AfPak.
  4. Polling data shows that the U.S. public has turned from mildly supporting Obama's excursion in Libya to now officially mildly opposing it. A plurality also has no idea what the goal is.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 04:56 PM) Zuckerberg always wanted the member's data, they'll never default towards sharing less. But the only reason he's able to do that is that the laws are written to allow it. The laws are written such that the default setting is less personal rights and more corporate rights. It did not have to be that way.
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 03:19 PM) They also clearly know where your car is all the time as well. With technology comes a definite decrease in privacy. Let's be clear though...the latter is only true because that's how the laws have been written. There is no a priori reason why that has to happen for the technology to work. There's no obvious reason why the privacy settings in phasebook, or in the ifone, etc., have to be "automatically set for less privacy" where you have to opt-in to increase it. Encrypting recorded data could (and probably should) be the default setting. Not sharing everything on facebook ought to be the default setting. Not having the government collect and store all your emails probably ought to be the default.
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 03:08 PM) Those people also probably wouldnt be able to figure out how to use the location information. I guess if someone stole your PC and really wanted to know where you were the past few months that would be an issue. The ACLU is currently suing the state of Michigan over a program the ACLU says involves the state of Michigan remotely downloading all available data from cell phones and other internet capable devices every time there is a traffic stop.
  8. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 02:50 PM) How does compromising defense when you're team is struggling to score runs make sense? I don't like this, I want Morel out there. If the rest of these veterans weren't struggling then he would be and no one would be holding it against him. He wouldn't need a "mental day off" which sounds like a lame excuse to find more offense from that position. Morel hasn't been stellar on D yet eitehr.
  9. and on and on and on...
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 12:44 PM) the Mets are the second team basically. The Madoff mess has that team ownership in shambles MLB isn't really running the Mets yet is it?
  11. First time we've had 2 consecutive weeks of 400k+ new unemployment claims since January.
  12. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 11:58 AM) Isn't it the Brewers? Well, considering that the Brewers' owner is Selig, i guess that's one way to look at it, but that's sorta crazy and it doesn't really tell me anything.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 11:28 AM) I actually agree with you 100%. the problem is that it will be doubly dangerous because of the utter dependence on government in that country. When that bubble goes, it is going to pop a lot of other sectors there. I really feel that it could be bad enough to take down the government like commodity prices and debt did to the USSR. Which is why the bubble must be maintained at all costs. Scary, all of us pretty much agreeing on that. Yikes.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 09:13 AM) So that is two out of 30 teams under MLB control. Wait, what's the 2nd? Texas was already sold off right?
  15. I really have no problem with a long NBA playoff. What's the harm in being able to watch a few more games? It's not like baseball where if they go on too long, suddenly the game gets snowed out.
  16. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 10:08 AM) Half of those guys played on other big league clubs before we got them. Oh, ok, then I get to count Gio and Richard.
  17. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 09:30 AM) Would you care to go into more detail? I'm not sure where you going with that. IMO, China is in the middle of an enormous investment-financed private and corporate real estate bubble. They're building giant condo complexes that sit empty, there's a giant Mall somewhere near the Mongolian border that is practically vacant and the owner is now raising capital to double the size of the place because he's decided the problem is it isn't big enough. Etc. They're somewhere close to where we were in 2006. They can't deflate the bubble slowly, it'll cost people politically. The bubble must be kept going at all costs. There's a different ethos there where they haven't looked on real estate as a private investment like this country has, which might slow the bursting of it a bit, but it has all the makings of a bubble about to pop.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 08:49 AM) We get 18% because the wife is a member of the NEA. NOT FOR LONG!!!! EAT IT UNIONS!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Wait, where did that come from?
  19. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 08:52 AM) I did recognize the name also, i'll write a book review here in the GOP thread if I do buy it. Seriously, if you want to light $20 on fire, just give it to me and I'll find you something more entertaining to burn.
  20. In case you don't recognize the name of that author.
  21. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 07:10 PM) China? China's creating jobs the same way the U.S. was creating jobs in 2006.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 08:40 AM) Once upon a time, about two and a half years ago, the Dems thought the debt and deficit were important too. Then the economy collapsed.
  23. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 12:28 AM) Alright. It looks like we're just going to ignore that I'm going back to the all-star break last year. And not just the start of this year. But that's fine. Thanks, Milk. I thought I was clear. This isn't just about a slow start to this season. And you're ignoring the majority of his career.
