If we pool all of our Soxtalk resources, think we could buy the Dodgers? We could run it my committee, we'd win a WS every year.

Considering that franchises these days seem like they're often bought almost entirely on credit, what we need is someone here who's already on the hook for about $750 million to some investment firm. We find that person, and wall street will be happy to loan us another $500 mil.

A Dodgers executive spoke out against MLB today and it sounds like McCourt may be preparing to sue MLB.

It is going to be hard to prove to the courts that McCourt did not use the Dodgers as collateral to finance his lavish lifestyle. Just this month he had to ask Rupert Murdoch for a 30 million dollar loan to make payroll. First month of baseball season and he already cannot pay his players, not a good sign

He does have a counterpoint though...he has a potential one-time event causing a major loss of liquidity...his divorce.

I know you're trying to be funny. But it really is amazing to me that some act like it's ONLY White Sox fans that go nutzoid when the team is struggling. Check out a Red Sox message board after a 4-game losing streak. You'd be stunned.

It's every fan base in every freakin sport. Not saying it's right(cause it's not) but that's how a good majority of fans act when the smallest of things go wrong for their team.

yeah, but his franchise shouldnt suffer because of his marital woes, MLB didnt have to take over the Padres when their owner got divorced and it was messy. Besides, the spending dates long before the divorce. Apparently he has his children all over the payroll

No, MLB didn't intervene. But take a look at what happened associated with that divorce...the Padres payroll from 2006-2008 averaged just over $70 million. Today it is $45 million. The franchise there clearly suffered because of the owners issues.

It suffered, sure. But Padres ownership didnt get to the point where they had to borrow money to make payroll, they pared it down.

And lets be honest here, Selig never got many kudos in his tenure for being a meddler or even having much of an actual presence as commissioner, so if he is stepping in and saying that this franchise is in trouble due to the owners mismanagement of the franchise, Im guessing that it is a lot more than just the divorce that Selig knows about.

And from the way Gammons was talking about it on M+H this morning, McCourt doesnt have any ground to stand on

Exactly. Did you see what he was using for collateral on that loan from Fox? The expected settlement on a lawsuit he has against the firm who drew up his prenup! The guy's a mess.
