  1. The Washington Post writes an article on how ordinary people are dealing with the gas price hike.
  2. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 04:32 AM) Josh Hamilton is an idiot! He broke his arm on a terrible slide, and blamed the coaching staff. Learn to slide, Junior! Lift and tap.. LIFT AND TAP! Don't land on your arms! To be fair...he's probably right, that wasn't the place to send your top flight MVP winning OF who doesn't run extremely well towards home plate. We'd be furious if one of our guys was sent home on a play like that.
  3. People were correctly annoyed with the Union suggestion that the players not attend the draft. The owners are now asking draftees to do the exact same thing regarding the NFLPA's events. They're just doing it surreptitiously, through agents, rather than publicly like the union did.
  4. Not as good as the shot from the front in 2008 against Detroit, but I still like the look.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 10:15 PM) Pierre lucky that didn't get past him. Game's about to get out of hand, and Ozzie sits there on his ass. Pretty much you have to be demanding Sale for 2+ innings right? Crain pitched last night and took the loss, Thornton's not reliable, Ohman already pitched, Humber's in the rotation, and then there's that other guy who's name I don't even remember.
  6. My world is normal again.
  7. Where in the ballpark are they making deep dish?!
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 09:47 PM) He wouldn't get it anyways. Makes way too many lazy errors. Really, last year you thought he made a lot of lazy errors?
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 09:47 PM) Wow, I don't blame Jackson for being pissed. Good thing he threw a worthless inning last game. Yeah, our bullpen could have handled it.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 09:20 PM) Doesn't Jackson have a history of struggling after high pitch count games? I don't really think so...you could say he struggled for a while after his no-hitter last year though.
  11. Can Cahill give us one more wild pitch this inning?
  12. The classic Vizquel bloop.
  13. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 05:13 PM) Weren't Freddy and Jose on the 2003 leaked list? The only list that their names appeared on was the false version of the Mitchell Report list that was circulated a few hours before the actual report was released. There has been no version of the full 2003 list leaked to the press, only individual names thus far.
  14. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 9, 2011 -> 10:05 PM) This is just f***ing funny to me. They are arguing about 30 billion in the context of a trillion and then these losers are beating their chests like they actually accomplished something. Talking about the budget there's 4 parts, revenue, entitlements, defense, and discretionary. They didn't touch three of those four and who knows if they ever will. Anyone who is unwilling to talk about ALL FOUR cannot and should not be taken seriously. You'll love this.
  15. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 06:50 PM) I don't see it. At least not since the trade. FB velocity is roughly the same. I think Jackson has a better slider while Hudson has a better changeup. Seems like all I'm doing is checking PFX today. Jackson's fastball is on average ~ 2 mph faster than Hudson's. Jackson sits at around 94.5, Hudson sits somewhere around 92.5-93.5 (not several seasons of data on him yet).
  16. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 06:26 PM) He hasn't been touching 91 for a long, long time now. And he's been more or less hitting 87 this year, he's freakin fine. I kind of agree with J4L, I wasn't in an uproar when we pulled Mark but I certainly disagreed with it. Either way, the defense in the end is what once again let us down(though Matt looked awful last night). Mark's average fastball from Pitch F/X 2007 86.9 2008 86.7 2009 85.6 2010 86.1 2011 85.2 His fastball has maybe...maybe changed by 1 mph the last 5 years. He's a bit low now, but it's also the start of the season.
  17. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 06:45 PM) Come on now, Jackson has better stuff than Hudson. Stuff doesnt make you a better pitcher, but Edwin has more of it. I have yet to see any publication put Hudson on par with a guy like Pedro, which is the type of talent Jackson was working with. Comparing Edwin Jackson and Pedro Martinez's stuff reminds me of comparing Daniel Hudson and Edwin Jackson's stuff.
  18. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 06:42 PM) He was just talking about the irony And in this case, the irony doesn't work. Calling the name ironic only makes sense if you think people are getting pregnant and planning to have abortions afterwards. Otherwise, PP is still providing family planning services.
  19. QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 04:36 PM) medicaid? Clinics? Oh, and the budget agreement cut $600 million from low-income health care clinics.
  20. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 05:28 PM) The problem with foundation would be, what foundation do they have to support that Bonds had any idea BALCO was using steroids. First they would have to provide evidence that Bonds had an idea, from my understanding of the evidence there were no smoking guns like "Barry Bonds Steroid sample A" or "Barry Bonds urine sample A while using steroids", I think they were coded etc, and the only way to provide foundation for the codes would be to bring in some one from BALCO to provide a foundation. They had a whole lot of doping charts with his name on them. Even without a positive test, that's plenty of reason to ask the question.
  21. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 05:23 PM) They are going after Clemens (I believe). Palmeiro wont be prosecuted, his previous employer is named Peter Angelos and he is a pretty influential litigator in the DC area. McGwire didnt technically lie, he just said he didnt want to talk about the past. None of them faced the same type of questions Bonds did. Clemens has been charged with lying to Congress when he was asked directly if he'd taken steroids. McGwire took the 5th. Palmeiro was investigated by the DOJ and the DOJ decided not to bring a case. The big problem was that Palmeiro's positive test came after he shook his finger at Congress. There wasn't any proof that he'd taken them before shaking his finger at Congress, only afterwards.
  22. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 04:28 PM) Based on information, stories, rumors. Not on some amazing superhuman ability to determine exactly how a drug effects not only yourself without any sort of cognitive biases (placebo), but also how it effects others. Actually, he has plenty of examples of how the same workouts affect people who aren't on steroids, unless the entire A's/Rangers/Yankees/White Sox teams were juicing. He probably can tell you more about the effects of steroid use in athletes than almost anyone alive.
  23. QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 04:36 PM) medicaid? Clinics? In other words, the government needs to pay for it.
  24. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 04:31 PM) Whats irresponsible is that Bonds should never have been forced into a situation where perjury could occur. Had he simply been allowed to invoke his 5th amendment right against self incrimination, this is non-case. Grand Juries are bulls***, thats the problem here, not how small or big perjury is. This should have never happened had the govt not wanted to screw Bonds. As the government said in their final argument...all Bonds had to do was tell the truth.
