Matt Guerrier and Jesse Crain
No one has noted yet that Crain is a type A Free agent and thus would cost us our 2nd round draft pick?

Cliff Lee signs with Phillies
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 06:31 PM) Oh I'm sure according to ESPN those will be in the top 5 moves of the offseason. When they signed Javy last year everyone on ESPN said how great it was except they didn't give any reasons why they thought this time in NY would be any different You really want to test that hypothesis? Let's see how the world reacts if they sign Pavano.

White Sox listening to offers for Buehrle
QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 02:37 PM) And even if he's scuffing the ball, which I think is what you're implying, that doesn't really explain how good he became. Dude's got talent and finally put it all together. No, it's not what I'm implying. I'm just saying that I don't think the 2008 turnaround was due to him suddenly becoming smarter, it was probably that something clicked physically first, and that he's learned how to attack hitters from there.

White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 02:20 PM) And the Royals aren't going to trade Greinke within the division anyways. If they got the right package I'm sure they would. I don't know who could offer it to them though. Maybe Cleveland, if they were open on Santana.

White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 01:52 PM) The only way danks is moved is if the prospects help get Grienke. Why is that the only way? I could certainly see lots of ways that D1 gets moved that don't involve prospects for Greinke. If someone offered you a package involving a talented young SP and another player for him, along with some salary relief, there'd be every reason to grab that deal. If you're 100% convinced that Peavy will be ready on day 1 and you want to start the season with Sale in the rotation, if someone offered you a real good deal for Danks even without a starting pitcher coming back, why not take it?

Cliff Lee signs with Phillies
You know...even if a deal like that is a fair deal for everyone involved...it's just so complicated that I couldn't possibly fathom it happening. There's so many veto points, management, ownership on each team, the players themselves, contracts, etc.

Cubs probably aren't going to pay enough of his contract to make that worth while anyway

Although Zambrano might cause increased insurance costs to protect the equipment in the dugout.

Well, if you compare their bullpen last year to what they have right now...they're really not worse except for the departure of Putz. Santos is Santos, Sale's there for the year, Thornton's still there, Infante is the newcomer, Pena is still there...the losses of Jenks and Linebrink are basically deadweight losses.

Cliff Lee signs with Phillies
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 11:53 AM) So are we to believe that Lee took less money to play for the Phillies, or that all the "leaks" in the media were planted there by his agent. I think it's pretty clear that he spurned a higher offer from the Yanks.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 11:36 AM) What's the problem with it? I thoroughly enjoyed the first three, and I like all of the actors in this one (Depp, Rush, McShane). I thought #3 was just awful.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 10:02 AM) Well it's a good thing the Canons of Judicial Ethics are written for the real world. Based on your concerns, Judges should never be able to invest in anything because of the potential that their decisions might impact their portfolios. The reality is that unless there's a direct connection that impacts their decision making (still not sure how interpreting that one provision in the health care bill does that), there's not an issue. Then you know what? Someone from Organizing for America ought to go out and get Anthony Kennedy under a 6-figure consulting gig. After all, it's just a campaign organization, there's no direct benefit to the group if he happens to rule in favor of a policy that the President also favors.

White Sox listening to offers for Buehrle
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 09:58 AM) Over 5 years I'd have to disagree. This version of Cliff Lee is capable of losing velocity on his FB and still being very good, if not elite. As the saying goes, there are pitchers and there are throwers. Lee is a pitcher. He is a student of the game through and through. He has enough in his repertoire and he understands hitters well enough to adjust quite a bit. Buehrle is the same in every way, except his velocity is already down and can't go much lower than it already is without him becoming a pitching machine. I don't think that will happen to Mark BTW, but just comparing the two, Lee is at a much higher elevation, and if he falls - even quite a bit - he can still land at an elevation that is above the realm of most starters in baseball. Slightly OT...does anyone other than me sit here, read something like this about Lee, and think "how the Hell did the guy who could barely stay in the league in 2007 turn into a student of the game overnight"?

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 09:57 AM) Exactly. You're trying to compare the two when they're not comparable. Clinton got in trouble because he lied, not because he enjoyed a fine cigar with the company of women. I don't believe I compared the two. I believe the original comparison was Boehner and Gingrich. Gingrich resigned because he cheated on his wife while impeaching a President in a case built on Clinton cheating on his wife.

OBAMA/TRUMPCARE MEGATHREAD
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 09:50 AM) Edit: This is all nonsense. According to the link provided by strangesox, he's an INVESTOR in the firm, not a consultant. And his decision didn't completely kill the bill. It killed one aspect of it. How does this make any sense that he's benefiting from the decision? If anything he just closed a door on what the firm is trying to accomplish. It doesn't officially benefit him...however, it's close enough that I'd be damn uncomfortable if it was a ruling on my side. Judges who get salaries from consulting firms that they are part-owners of, who consult on bills for people who later appear before them, who then rule on that same bill? It's not illegal, but it's not exactly anything I'd call clean, and it's not something I'd want to be defending as a great thing for democracy.

Cliff Lee signs with Phillies
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 09:48 AM) The last time the White Sox liked Yankees prospects we came back with Jeff Marquez. Stay away. And as nice as it is to see the Yankees come away with nothing here, the Phillies are becoming just as bad. The Sox didn't do that deal for Marquez, even though they may have sold it that way. They did the Swisher deal to get rid of Nick Swisher and Nick Swisher's contract.

White Sox listening to offers for Buehrle
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 09:49 AM) Lee is actually more of a workhorse lately too. Definitely true...but at least with the early season injury and the struggles when he arrived in TX last year, at least I kinda wonder whether we've started seeing the limits of that on Lee.
